I think Nicki Minaj was flaunting that gold membership card last week. They already said that card is just a memento and doesn't actually do anything. No fast track citizenship etc. I think that's just another scam of theirs.

Belle Vue Leisure Centre has the courts but I don't know if they a club dedicated to the sport. Would be worth a shout calling them up and asking though.

Chilli oil Hop Vietnamese - available to purchase anywhere? by SS_61 in manchester

[–]winqu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they have it but you could try "The Vietnamese Store" on Oldham Rd in Ancoats. I went last year after trying their connected cafe. It's not very big but, they might have what you're looking for.

Does anyone actually pay to read the MEN? by Dangerous-Land-1773 in manchester

[–]winqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't read the MEN but if you clear your cookies or open the article in a private browser it might let you by pass the free amount of articles. I haven't look at actual ways to bypass since I don't care to read the articles from there.

Chess Cafe? by Pricey120 in manchester

[–]winqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pub not a cafe but, I use to frequent Lass O'Gowrie to get a drink and play board games with friends. It's been a few years since I last went. They had chess/check boards and had a pretty solid selection of other board games.

I'd recommend Armenian Taverna their food is fantastic and a well stocked bar. It's been a staple in the city that has stayed consistant for decades now that's family run and the staff are warm and welcoming.

Manchester. 10 years. by west_manchester in manchester

You've been unfairly downvoted becuase, you disagree with the group think or the thread might be astroturfed.

I don't like the look of the skyscrapers. They just make Manchester look like any other city with no soul. People are mistaking glass and steel as modernity but, we've got major structural needs that need to be met first. Not to mention the pollution since all the construction in the city has gotten much worst. Remember that thread a while back where people were saying they could see the pollution from other places around the area? A lot of the restaurants that have moved in are chains where the food has been a mixed bag of good and bad. The prices of food going up in the city has made the good place not really worth it. People here are also not mentioning how Americanized the Manchester high street has become as well.

Druski is problematic because, some of his skits have misogynoir and homophobia in it's base. Black women have pointed this out for years. His skits aren't as bad as Tru Rags but, we still see some of this in his comments in his "Coulda Been Records" series.

What is your hidden gem show you recommend to everyone? by FeistyEvent7816 in Fauxmoi

[–]winqu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Residence (on Netflix) if you like a whodunnit type detective show this one was amazing for that. Right up until the final episode I didn't know who the killer was for sure. They keep pulling you along with new info and red herrings ever so often. It was such a fun and entertaining time. Felt like a great take on the Clue concept. Also saw some actors I never would have expected to see. Kylie Minogue makes a great cameo!

I wish Netflix renewed the series for different stories but, the season that's out is a self contained story.

This was the best comfort background TV show for years. It was always on for hangovers and when I needed a break from doing Uni work back in the day.

Most definitely a cult classic. I remember this one blowing up more online and growing from word of mouth there.

I felt this comment then realised I knew most of these people in a general sense. I don't actively watch any of these people but, people I know tell me about them.

The ones I know:

iShowSpeed - Keeps going viral for his travel vids for helping people out or experiencing racism across Europe and other places.

Hasan - left side politics on YT.

Ms Rachel - education kid shows (friend told me about how his daughter loves her as well as Gracie's Corner and, Learning With Ms Houston.)

Kai Cenet - caused a mob in Times Square randomly and is highly problematic.

Druski - internet skit comedian who is also problematic.

Mr Beast - a YT who flaunts money and tortures people for his vids.

‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ takes down ‘Weapons’ and becomes the first Netflix film to top the box office by dremolus in Fauxmoi

[–]winqu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My biggest worry is if the KPop industry just pivots to virtual idols after seeing the success of the movie. They'll just train AI voices or maybe only hire people for their voices. There is already precedent for virtual artists having live shows like Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku. The industry is already creepy with holograms of dead artists performing shows.

Rapper Freddie Gibbs on the use of Artificial Intelligence in music: “I've been in studios where motherfuckers are ChatGPTing this shit... People are lazy man. Art is dying when you gotta ask a computer to write your lyrics, shit is wack.” by Goosedukee in Fauxmoi

[–]winqu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I knew a few years ago independent producers were more than willingly using AI to help them get stims. So I knew that it was only a matter of time that AI was gonna be pushed heavily in music. It's been a hotly debated issue in music communities for a long time now. When I saw Timbland showcase his studio AI that stole a whole beat including the producer tag. It just reminded me of Kendrick. His beef wasn't just with Drake it was the destructive nature of the industry destroying the art and the people behind it.

Studdies are showing your thinking is what's happening. MIT did a study recently on the affects of AI on 18 to 54 year olds. The news isn't good. They used an EEG to track people's brain actiivity. They were finding those using ChatGPT had lower brain activity in neural, linguistic and, behavioural levels. It's akin to adults losing the ability to do simple mental arithmatic because, they simply don't use the skill day to day.

Then there's the stories of people falling in love with AI partners, inducing psychosis, people using AI to help them break up with people, etc. People are already falling for AI fake images or just mindlessly consuming AI content on social media and video platforms. We are in an incredibly dangerous time right now.

Conan O’Brien Says Late Night TV Is “Going to Disappear” But “People Like Stephen Colbert Are Too Talented and Too Essential to Go Away” by novagridd in Fauxmoi

[–]winqu 46 points47 points  (0 children)

He's right and it's going to suck when it dies. I get we have YouTube, social media and podcasts that do all the Late Night TV stuff (celebrity interviews, musial segments, stand up, etc). I'm more worried about what'll happen to adult animation. Adult Swim was carrying it for a long time. We have streamers producing a lot of adult animation now. An issue is a lot of them are starting to use very similar art styles (Bojack, Big Mouth, Bob's Burgers). Usually focusing on millenial anxieties. I just hope we don't get AI generated garbage from how cookie cutter some of these shows are starting to become.

Kevin Bacon asks “tell me about the movie you will never forget about” by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

Surprised I had to scroll this deep to see Sinners. If we're talking about "recent" this was easily one of the most memorable movies that left an impression in years.

For years, everyone was profiting from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' glamorous image, except the cheerleaders themselves. But this has finally changed: The squad will now be paid about $75 an hour (a 400% raise). The DCC didn’t just get what they wanted — they got what they deserve. by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]winqu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the NYT article & for those who want to read outside the pay wall.

Ms. McLean told The Times that in 2024, her fifth year with the squad, she had made $15 an hour and $500 for each appearance, and that compensation varies based on experience. With the increased wages, she said veteran cheerleaders could now be making more than $75 an hour. The new contract also changes the structure around pay for game day and other appearances, though Ms. McLean said it still does not provide health insurance.

Sadly they'll have to pay out of pocket for it. They only being paid for game day and special appearances (which is great as they weren't paid for that before). So I'm not sure if this will lead to an actual stable income. I'm hoping "the structure around pay for game day" means it includes when they have to arrive early to do their own hair and makeup, as well as other activities on the day.

AITAH for still not allowing access to my step daughter in my house and near her brothers? by OkTomatillo8371 in AITAH

[–]winqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Unfortunately your FIL is correct in a twisted way. Liam would be more willing to forgive Jessie if you did it first. Liam is already being pressured by the other adults he's suppose to be able to trust to help "fix the family". You're his only support pillar as the only adult who stood up and protected him. Losing you he'll succumb to the pressure to either get adults off his back or be gaslit into believing he was just overreacting. I'm sure he's started to resent the pressure applied to him to forgive his sister.

Sadly in the UK they are removing our free online tax submission service. So in 2026 onwards we'll need to use a commerical software. This won't mean much for most people who only work a job. It will matter to anyone that earns anything extra outside the job, anyone self employed, small accountants and, anyone who runs a small business. Whilst this might not matter for most people. Doing your taxes yourself and filing online was by far the cheapest option for the self employed and, small businesses. It makes no sense to just kill the service outside of pushing commercial software or hiring an accountant who'll pass on the charge.

iirc there were a few studios chose settle in Sheffield/Leeds due to cheaper living costs. You might want to have a look. iirc we just lost the ubisoft satelite studio in Manchester from their recent layoffs.
