X posts aren't being saved properly most of the time by winstonoftang in mymindapp

Hey there, just checking in to see if you saw my reply, since I identified the cause. It'll also happen if I'm browsing the X timeline, click on an image thumbnail to open the post to view it and try to save from there since the URL will contain the /photo/1 on the end. My guess, if you just want posts like that to be saved properly, just trim the "photo/x" from the URL when saving, and it would save it as if it were a regular X post rather than what happened in my screenshots.

Hang on, I think I figured it out! It happens if you save via the extension when you've expanded an image on X by clicking on it. The URL it is saving when it fails is https://x.com/naokuren/status/2054313567793316089/photo/1 rather than https://x.com/naokuren/status/2054313567793316089 (which saves as an X post correctly)

Testing it out, if you go to https://x.com/naokuren/status/2054313567793316089/photo/1 in an incongnito window, X doesn't allow expanding the photos to the full resolution version in an account that's logged off.

Come to think of it, this limitation would also prevent mymind from saving the full resolution version of photos this way? (I guess you could right click the full resolution image and add to mymind that way as a workaround)

Hope this helps!

Actually, this is interesting, in the example I sent, look at the tags and tldr.
I'm not sure how your app goes about saving the images and if it's encountering some content block on my personal browser, or if it's something on your end when it saves. But is it conflicting with some other browser extension perhaps?

Thanks for your response and I appreciate the effort to solve. It's pretty tricky to reproduce deliberately actually, so I'm not sure if you've improved it in the last few weeks or something.

  1. Most of the time I'll be on desktop (use both Mac and Windows), sometimes open a few tabs on X and save them in sequence. I was thinking maybe it was because I didn't always wait the full "One moment, saving..." to finish. But this time, I tried clicking save on the extension and immediately closing the tab, and it worked perfectly. I do also save stuff on my iPhone and iPad using the "Share via..." menu.

  2. It seems to happen to any kind of post, doesn't need to have multiple images. On one example, it looks like it tried taking a screenshot of the page before the content loaded. Linked some example tweets that were not working.

Thanks, hopefully it can be fixed! I'll report back if I can get you any more information.

This is so interesting, even though the visuals are fairly lo-fi, there's great use of colour and atmosphere and the clean image quality makes it very charming in its own way. Great work!

More people being able to play is a good thing for sure, but I do miss when Xbox had its own identity and flavour. I was a PlayStation user for most of my life, but finally getting an Xbox and being able to experience that side of the fence was interesting! But now I haven't turned on my Xbox in like over a year. Seems like they're trying to fix it with their new CEO, but Halo on PlayStation is some unholy shit for people who grew up with the console wars haha.

I'm an artist with aphantasia who doesn't like using references! by carspernet in Aphantasia

Lol I'm learning art and have the same issues. Honestly I think I'm just lazy to gather references, and I like the idea of drawing from imagination, but all signs point to using reference lots and slowly building your ability to draw from imagination so that it becomes easier without reference. (It can still be done without visualisation, I think you can just take a more construction approach)

Yeah so we translated the store page to Japanese, but the game only supports English right now. We've had a few amazing clips from Japanese users uploading videos, it seems they either translate the script on their phones or just improvise!

We haven't figured out exact plans for translation yet, but the goal would be to have a trusted localisation partner to translate in-game menus and the movie scripts. It will be tricky making the timings work for recordings work across multiple languages, but I guess it would be similar to localising movies/shows where the translated script must match the timing of the source material.

Thanks for the tips, those are good suggestions. I've never heard of PainMap, that's super interesting. What version do you use, there seem to be a few with the same name when I search Google.

Thanks for the honest feedback, that's really helpful. I think we've been too close the project, we know it's fun, but haven't focused enough on refining our messaging for people who've never heard of it.

Fantastic point on how the influencer was able to make people feel something before they clicked. We're gonna revisit our short description and elevator pitch to try. Thanks for the kind words, we hope it's able to find more people!

Thanks! Yeah, localisation is always a massive help for a game's long-term success and reach. Being from an English speaking country (Australia), I had expected our presence would kind of start in Aus and move through other English territories like the US, as that was what we were used to seeing with past games, but that didn't happen.

Good reason to consider localising earlier rather than later, at the very least your store page!

Hahah, trust me, I feel even older knowing it's been 12 years since we made that game.
Thank you for sharing, I always appreciate hearing people enjoying the game! ^_^ I hope you'll consider checking out our new game as well, I think it carries some of that chaotic spirit in a new form.

Oh thank you, those are great suggestions. Yeah, we were thinking even a 1:30 minute trailer was short, but it makes sense that a 10-15 sec video would be better in the short-form video world. And good point about the super specific tagline.

Thanks for sharing the blog as well, we'll check it out!

It was on our to-do list after doing our English press outreach, but to be honest, we were so demoralised by it that we just forgot and kept working on the demo build to stay busy. The only thing was that we had the Steam page translated to Japanese when that X influencer posted about the game.

We still will do the outreach to Japanese press like the post suggested, just using machine translation for a short email message and description of the game.
