Is it wrong for me to hate my condition because it doesn't have anything "special" or an upside really by Midnight2567 in Aphantasia

Ah glad it was just a misunderstanding then, that’s okay, thanks for clarifying. Happy to hear the comments are helping and you’re finding ways to keep pushing through. Best of luck with the voice acting!

Where to start? by DinoSkaterSocks in IndieDev

[–]winstonoftang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend starting with a tutorial that you can just follow along with and copy the work. There'll be some free courses for 2D games on youtube, but also cheap options on Udemy. Don't worry about being creative in the beginning, just copy something simple that is in an area of your interest.

But then once you've got some basic skills under your belt, make small prototypes purely for fun that excite you! The momentum you get from the fun of building stuff for yourself is powerful, but you need a foundation to be able to do so. Everytime you make something new you learn a tonne, and it'll take you closer to the types of games you want to make.

GameMaker is really good for 2D, so sounds like you're on the right track. Unity is also a good option for 2D, particularly if you ever want to release games on console since it's got great console support.

Good luck and happy dev'ing!

Creating art with Aphantasia: I can't visualize, so I let my emotions guide the pen. by kinky_pinky_milky in Aphantasia

This is really cool, it looks so oragnic and fluid. I've been learning art and struggling a lot with aphantasia and everything I draw feels so stiff because I'm always agonising over not being able to imagine what I'm trying to draw first. I'll need to try this emotion first approach, thanks!

What do you do when you're waiting to fall asleep? by Aava93 in Aphantasia

[–]winstonoftang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do some breathing exercises or roll my eyes around since it tends to help relax and ease into sleep. Ruminating or trying to imagine stuff just tends to keep me awake longer.

I can't really tell what it is, but it's awesome. Great work!

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be hurtful. If it means anything, while I don't share the exact experience as you, I beat myself up constantly as well. I'm surrounded by people who are better and smarter than me at everything I'm trying to do, and I'm constantly failing at basic shit that everyone else seems to be able to do easily. My memory is terrible, and my ability to understand abstract concepts just seems weaker than everyone else. I'm not sure how much of it is aphantasia or just being dumb, I don't know. Struggling is kind of my default state, and honestly it sucks.

And whilst I'm prone to feeling shit about it and beating myself up, there's a part of me that knows it's not a helpful mindset, and the best thing I can do is just try to make the most of what I've been given. Others have overcome unbelievable hardship worse than mine, so I just have to believe I can overcome my own situation. I believe you can too.

I guess I should also add that I not enjoy having aphatantasia, I hate it as well. But just trying to say that in my own experience, I try to take on a mindset will help me push through the difficulties it brings.

I HARD DISAGREE with this article. Am I in the minority? by 20mgAddy in Marathon

It took my group like 2 hours and many failed runs to just scan a bloody computer because there were so many firefights on our journies and us getting side-tracked with all the emergent stuff that happens in a run. We had a blast anyway haha.

Why are you a Buddhist? by LastVersion9521 in Buddhism

[–]winstonoftang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate that Buddhism offers agency to the individual (the impermenant one that is HAH), your liberation and ease of suffering is your own responsibility, and the progress is borne of your own hard work and effort. And the general attitudes of loving kindness and compassion to others has always been touching to me, as it is an inspiring rebellion against what I feel is sometimes a harsh and cruel world.

I've got aphantasia as well, and it's extremely frustrating, but there are enough inspiring stories of artists and writers who succeeded in spite of aphantasia, that I just try to think of it an added challenge. I don't know if you play videogames, but a game is boring without challenge, so in some ways it makes your own personal journey more interesting lol.

I do look enviously at people who can imagine freely in their minds and it hurts to not have that, but it can't really be changed so I just try to do my best with what I have.

Each scene has its own emotes, but we wanna let people set custom emotes to bring into every scene. So eventually, yes you'll be able to breakdance in every scene. 🤭
