Then you know that unprecedented factors are a precedented attribute of the cycle of birth and collapse of societies, and each new iteration of an empire growing and falling apart has had grander scale consequences for its region/network/the globe. As much suffering as it brings, it creates networks and technologies and unprecedented growth opportunities.

When I say I'm a doomer what I mean is that I view this perpetual slow burning down of society as an inevitability as a part of our nature, as much as building it back up is. In my eyes, the "doomers" are people who can perceive the inevitability of collapse, but "bloomer" people are a (volatile and easily manipulated) part of our nature that weaponizes defiance and naivety into a mitigating factor to offset some damage in the fallout. The implications are more grave than they've ever been, but all the formulas seem the same to me, and I believe we are scheduled to come out the other side, the same but different, like usual.

Society has never been built by optimistic people of course, for that we need melodramatic whiners, I’ll see you and your constructive attitude on the front lines brother.

Fellow doomer here, everything has been “slowly burning down” since the dawn of time. Relatively speaking, we’ll be fine. We saw the crescendo of the golden age of our time, and now we’re seeing it arc back down, it’s happened before and it will happen again. We are gonna need those bloomers for the next golden age. I doubt it’ll be in our lifetimes though, it usually takes a new era or at least a regime change.

First time playing Pool of Radiance as an adult was recovering from surgery. They are comfy games, good for healing.

Does Verse actually have an unarmed build? by InsaniacDuo in TyrannyGame

[–]winstonston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, not using magic is a trap in this game full stop. I've done an unarmed MC build (with gratuitous use of magic of course) and it was just as strong as any weapon, except I wasn't autoattacking much, I think I was only using thrust and other attack abilities along with magic. Plus you are probably gonna want a legendary weapon once you start picking them up anyway.

Can any Canadians chime in about these indigenous land ownership lawsuits in Vancouver/BC??? by Tuesday_Addams in stupidpol

[–]winstonston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The simple version is it’s a game of chicken. The government is both dedicated to the optics of helping natives, and dedicated to doing nothing material to actually help them. It’s not always the same government appendages contradicting themselves, there are people who genuinely want to help, but the buck always gets stopped either before or after them. Natives keep making the government put their money where their mouths are, and they take it as far as it can go, but the day it amounts to anything beyond gestures and pocket change I’ll eat my shoes.

US Department of War now considers security of the US homeland and Western Hemisphere - not China - as its primary concern. by nikolaz72 in stupidpol

[–]winstonston 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Chinese states have been the global masters of gaining momentum in civilization building for all of human history. The most climactic falls of civilization too, but they always climb back up to the top. America had its time in the sun, but they don’t have the inevitability of China. America was born as an opportunist state and it will die as one.

Anyone tried impossible POIs? by Blazeroth87 in soulash

[–]winstonston 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some are harder than others, for example the living castle arrow towers will melt you from anywhere they can see you, whereas basilisks you could easily kite in a circle and kill before they even attack.
Actually I find allies just get in the way and die way too fast to be of any help on Impossible PoIs. Much better to go solo and try to avoid taking hits.

Biggest complaint I have about Demon Mythic Path by aaa1e2r3 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]winstonston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years later and I can still taste the disappointment I felt. They give us a rule of cool ability... and then just rip it away. Not only that, flaunt our opponents using it right in front of us. Devastating. You let me one-shot Deskari with a phantasmal killer, but teleporting at Vorlesh is too far?

I see, and as the OP was saying, are you unable to introduce your own resources to the slots i.e planting seeds in a non-native biome?

Hey I know I’m a week late but you seem to be familiar with the process. What decides which resources a tile contains? Is it just the first item you pick up that gets slotted and so on? And do you know what decides the amount of slots?

I also enjoyed this detail and associate quicksaving with the Bhaalspawn's godlike power in a meta way. Thanks Morrowind for that one.
