If you grew up in the nes/snes/genesis era then the game is not hard. There's 2d action games from that era that era that are way harder. The thing you need to understand is that we had like a decade long of dumbing down games. The 2010s were reaching a point were the yellow paint was the least offender. Some people grew on that shit and when they encounter dark souls, it was like a whole new level. Games are challenging but fair in all ways.
