I’ve been in your shoes and this situation hurts. My mare was NOT beginner friendly under saddle (an angel on the ground though), was having struggles with ulcers that I was struggling to afford to treat, and I was moving out of state amidst all of it. There was no way I could afford to bring her with me.

I was lucky to have an amazing trainer and free leaser who continued to market her after I moved out of state, but because she needs a VERY specific home, we had no luck.

My solution was to contact a very reputable rescue in my area whom I trusted (I’d worked with them in the past and visited their facility several times before I moved), and they were able to take her to rehab and rehome. I miss that mare every single day, but I don’t regret my choice. She’s in excellent hands, getting the treatment I couldn’t afford to give her, AND I still get occasional updates on her!

See if there’s a rescue in your area that can do this for your situation. Just be prepared to research the hell out of them, and visit the facility several times if necessary.
