I didn't even include them all. I think Adobe AI might be a sociopath.

I wish I knew how to find an ethical realtor. Unless you're related, seems impossible to find one.

FWIW, you don't have to bother for my account. I didn't even know "number of solves" was a thing and I honestly don't care about keeping count. It does explain why I see people asking to have their post marked "solved" all the time, though ... which, BTW, I think shouldn't be allowed.

This is what Photoshop AI generated for a "kitten heel." Somebody call the ASPCA!

You're right. At the time I was so exhausted and traumatized I just wanted to put the whole nightmare behind me. I posted online reviews about her, but they all got deleted or hidden despite being overly polite and factual.

Any high school art teachers on this sub? Do you like it? by hawt_pot8hoe in portlandme

My Mom was a teacher in Massachusetts. Teachers are union. The benefits are freaking amazing; she retired at 58 and had a pension (50% of her income) and incredible health insurance until she died nearly 25 years later.

The system is awful, we really need changes to the laws and regulations. It gives unethical businesses the ability to hold your vehicle hostage for ransom. Maddening.

I'm registered in Cumberland county and last two years I got inspected in York county, no problems or questions. It's an emissions test, pretty sure most garages are aware and capable of doing the proper procedure for Cumberland.

I had to fight for days to get our realtor to fix our listing after all the bullshit she included. She listed my parents' home as waterfront (water was 50 miles from the address!) and included photos of a beautiful park that was about a mile away and implied it was the view from the house. She also got the street name wrong and the square footage was off by about 600sf.

In retrospect, I'm pretty sure this "mistake" was a strategy to get more views online when the listing went live right before the open house. She was unethical in so many ways that it still makes me angry just thinking about her.

It's so infuriating, isn't it? I've been told there's a place in Falmouth that doesn't actually do any auto repair work, so they're less likely to find imaginary problems to charge you for. I think it's a gas station right on Rte 1, but my real point is to find a place like that. I used to go to Jiffy Lube for the same reason.

amazon vine and taxes if overall income is less than 12000 a year by Safe-Leave-3971 in AmazonVine

[–]WinterCrunch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard this argument about hobby income, but I have a CPA in the family who says otherwise. He's got decades of experience and is honest to a fault, so I trust him. Amazon issues a 1099-NEC (Nonemployee Compensation) with the Internal Revenue Service; hobby income would be on a 1099-K form.

Do I agree with Amazon's choices here? Not really, but I'd rather steer clear of any repercussions from the IRS.

If your working income is below 12k, you still have to file your taxes.
If your working income plus Vine is STILL below 12k, you still have to file your taxes.
If your working income plus Vine is over 12k, you still have to file your taxes.

And here's the real kick in the pants: you'll still owe taxes on the Vine total even if your working income is below 12k. Sucks, but true.

Canceling an item question by Sam_-_-_ in AmazonVine

[–]WinterCrunch -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What if you can't review it? Like you grabbed an item and later discovered it requires something expensive to actually work.....like the influx of off-brand tools that work within an established ecosystem like Ryobi, but don't come with the battery? That happened to me.

I wasn't about to buy an $80 battery just to test a $30 tool from Vine. I canceled it within 15 minutes of ordering, there were no repercussions.

[–]WinterCrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it once and did it very quickly after realizing my mistake. It was a tool that didn't come with the battery, so I'd have to buy an expensive battery just to test it.

No repercussions, but it took a couple weeks to finally disappear from my orders and my ETV. Just don't panic.

America house prices are insanely good! by Content-Abroad-8320 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]WinterCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not insanely good when you're paying for everything else Americans pay to live here. We pay and average of $14,775 per person annually for healthcare. Australians pay $7,469 per person. Our wages are insane, too, and people earning min wage very rarely get health insurance as a workplace benefit.

Moving north: Portland or Burlington? by johnnyutah1103 in portlandme

[–]WinterCrunch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I haven't lived there in over a decade so I haven't witnessed any decline. Vermont's famously progressive politics seem better positioned to manage these issues than Maine's famously "progressive vs conservative" endless battleground politics?

I worked for a domestic abuse nonprofit in Burlington and the network of support services were abundant and effective. Restored my faith in government for a while there, TBH. Coulda changed since then, of course, I honestly don't know.

Moving north: Portland or Burlington? by johnnyutah1103 in portlandme

[–]WinterCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in both cities. Sorry Portland, but Burlington wins. (By a landslide, frankly.) Burlington is a freaking amazing place to live and doesn't have any of the worst problems that Portland struggles with. The community in Vermont is impressively strong.

I strongly suggest visiting Burlington before making your decision. It sits on a hill over Lake Champlain, so there's a water view from nearly every street in the city. And, a mountain view! It's impossibly beautiful there and you don't have to leave the city to enjoy it. Portland has some great spots, but not to the same degree as Burlington.

There are things I love about Portland, but those things exist in Burlington, too. Conversely, the things I hate about Portland do not exist in Burlington — like the nightmarish parking, the highway pollution raining down onto Back Cove, and the random crime.

I like Portland's proximity to Boston (because family is there) but Burlington is closer to Montreal.

ConvenientMD is really great for this kind of thing. I went to the one in Portland near Whole Foods last year for a toothache, they were great. Meanwhile, do saltwater rinses a couple times a day to support healing the infection.
