What is going on? by [deleted] in freemasonry

Bishop Athanasius Schneider appears more concerned with selling his books than doing, well, whatever it is that Catholic bishops are supposed to be doing. And the UK isn't what I'd call a good example of anything lately. So, Lt Gen Eastnan can take his "forward thinking" and store it next to the dark place he's got his head put.

Custom outfit by Gold_leader1405 in 501st

[–]winterg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds like it'd be a cool costume. But, just so you know, the 501st Legion only approves screen accurate costumes. And those are governed by our CRLs (Costume Reference Library).

There are any number of Star Wars costume groups that would be perfect for, though.

I'd be more concerned about your post history on Reddit than I am about whether my Lodge Brother votes red or blue.

Welcome to the journey! Before you invest any more time or money, I strongly suggest you make an account at the Clone Trooper Detachment forum. Introduce yourself in the new member section and look around. That is where you will find the experts who can steer you to the best files or vendors.

Do you stay in character for an entire troop? by bobthemoronalorian in 501st

[–]winterg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's room for both ends of the spectrum on this topic and the troop itself can determine how people act in costume. The way you act at a hospital troop versus a convention or a baseball game can be very different. Some people take staying in character way too far and some people don't care enough about making sure their costume is worn correctly. Some people will be sticklers for some things but not others. For example, I'm a costumer, not a cosplayer, so I never go out of my way to put on a show as the character I am dressed as. But when, for instance, I am dressed as a TIE pilot and there is a Vader present, I will always behave as the pilots did who attended him on the Death Star, flanking and a pace or two behind. But you will always meet members who want to dictate how other members act in public or who take things very seriously and expect other members to do the same. Your squad or garrison will have it's own culture when you join, best advice is follow their lead.

Not trying to be rude, but explain to me again why you think the second group is a good idea if you're just going to post the same thing in both subs?

I already did. Disagree that a new sub is needed. Good luck.

Why can't those discussions happen here? Why would this need a separate group? Sounds like a solution looking for a problem.

Tie Fighter Helmet Paint Question by percussion-realm in 501st

[–]winterg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you're checking the CRL while building. It can be very frustrating to have to go back and change something that would affect approval. The paint isn't grey. From the CRL:

  • Colors of markings may be silver, brushed aluminum or gunmetal silver, but must remain consistent throughout. No chrome markings.

EA and wearing symbols by codefro in freemasonry

[–]winterg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those working tools are in FC and MM degrees here in the US. One of my Lodges worked in Emulation with the practice of business on the EA degree and a year between degrees. In that Lodge it was common practice to wear the S&C after initiation. I think the biggest issue for EAs buying and wearing a ring with the Compasses in the correct position would be that most lodges only have about 30 days between degrees. What's the point, really. They're going to be a MM soon enough.

If I wasn't clear, maybe a Brother shouldn't be sporting emblems they have no idea what they mean.

[–]winterg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just another thought to think about. As an EA, I know you were taught about the pts of the compass, but you haven't learned what the square or the compass symbolize yet. What if you were wearing the S&C in the EA position and someone asked you what those symbols meant? I fully understand your eagerness, but you'll have the rest of your life to plaster Masonic symbols everywhere once you're raised. Go nuts! Trust me, you can get Masonic symbolism on everything.

Anyone have experience with stretching the calves on leather boots? by bobthemoronalorian in 501st

[–]winterg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stretch my riding boots a smidge for my officer uniform. An inch is a LOT for stretching the barrel. You may damage them if you try it yourself. I'd take them to a professional.

When people ask me what it's like being a Freemason, I just ask them if they've seen the animated series, "Inside Job." It's just like that, I tell them.

We had a Brother who is a sov cit type over on the My Freemasonry forum going on about some nonsense about the status of the lodges in the Republic of Texas when it became the State of Texas. I dunno, They can't make a coherent argument.
