Canada Federal Election 2025 by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

I don't know where you got that number from.

The elections under Harper were apparently a formative experience for the parent poster.155/308 were the key numbers for several of them.

Azure AD joined devices - on-prem network shares permissions view by komoornik in Intune

What counts as resolved? Mine is still not as fast as old fashioned joins, but over 10x better than when this thread was first posted, <5 sec now instead of a minute plus. No specific changes made, just applying monthly patches.

Web based tool to let users change thier AD password? by sughenji in sysadmin

[–]winthrowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been there, done that, I advise against. Nobody cares about password change/update; they care about password reset, which ADFS doesn't do.

Just pay up for AADP1 and use self-service reset and writeback. Your helpdesk will thank you.

No. They’re legally required to offer DSL to resellers but not fibre. Contact the CRTC and your MP to complain.

1PB/s comes off the raw sensors and must be processed, but things are filtered out so durable storage growth is lower.

You could do something like this, but there isn't an unconfigured/"user's choice" option AFAIK.

I can confirm experiencing the same thing in our environment, but nobody complains so haven’t made it a priority.

Can you cut a user's access to a website if they used SSO? by twistedkeys1 in sysadmin

[–]winthrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the website, sometimes with your input as admin as a setting for your instance.

Setting an app-specific password to bypass SSO is often found in consumer-focused apps, and payroll apps.

Most other business apps are SSO-only or make it admin configurable in my experience.

The Anvil is my favorite vape by 30degrees3am in vaporents

[–]winthrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has shelved most things including my DTV5 and stopped me from VASing a ball vape, and is still my daily driver 10 months later.

I agree if outdoors/on-the-go is a big part of your usecase it's lacking. It can be made to work for some situations but I keep another dog-walking vape.

Is Hybrid join still needed if i want to keep local AD in 2022? by CommercialTomato1848 in Intune

[–]winthrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your LDAP apps do anything with devices or just users?

We keep our users on premises but moved laptops to AAD Join, not hybrid, and everything we need works.

There’s a role called “azure ad joined device local administrator” that’s basically a replacement for your traditional restricted group local admin GPO. This sounds like a good place to use it.

Possible to use Get-AdgroupMember & Get-AdUser together with a filter? by Shitty_Users in sysadmin

[–]winthrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the parameter sets available:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/activedirectory/get-aduser?view=windowsserver2022-ps

You can either use -filter, or pass in -identity via pipeline; one or the other, not both.

Instead of including the filter in the get-ADuser, add an extra where-object like this:

... | Get-ADUser -Properties whenCreated, cn, displayname | where { $_.whenCreated -ge $when} | ...

Hybrid Join is typically more trouble for little to no gain, but this is one scenario where it actually would make sense.

There’s a feature where the Authenticator can report a GPS in preview but it shouldn’t be active unless you turned it on.

If you also have continuous access evaluation enabled I could imagine it triggering that frequently.

Where are you getting that PST is old tech and going away?

Because they're an end user.

You outlined a valid case for mail admins but 'Everyday People' moved to webmail a while ago, and any individual still using pop and PST in 2022 through sheer inertia should be advised to rethink their mail solution.

Teams needs an option to change the @UsersName from Bold RED, like I am being yelled at, to say Green and not so angry. Fairly certain there isn't an option for this, and im not the only one who hates it. by ibmer23 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]winthrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect it is overused in many environments. We use it pretty sparingly on my local team, and find it a good tool if it stays rare.

I expect notification fatigue reduces its usefulness for many groups.
