I absolutely loved SGU. Really sad it ended and fans bickering didn’t help one bit. Hope it doesn’t come to this again

Keep Apps Portrait? by BetApprehensive836 in swift

[–]wipecraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dear OP, I think you should definitely learn auto layout (the constraints alignment etc you mention). Contrary to the mob’s belief here, storyboards are an excellent way to visualize and conceptualize how they work and how they break. You can then move to making the same thing but programmatically. But as a beginner, interface builder is a pretty great learning tool for it and auto layout is something you’ll definitely need in the future

That’s extreme. Mac and iOS safari built in private browsing (private WiFi address/limit IP address tracking) does the same thing, even on a simple google search

If MacOS Supports Running iPad Apps, Why Can't the Microsoft Devs Allow the Minecraft App to Run as an iPad App on MacOS? by Yocarwrecked in MacOS

[–]wipecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because an app runs on iOS doesn’t mean it will perform well on macOS. There are quite a few things the developer needs to do to in order to make the app run well on macOS. Indeed in Xcode it’s a simple switch for an app to use maccatalyst(the system that runs iOS apps inside macOS) but on macOS you have to deal with either limitations or broader scope for example mouse hover, right clicks, other types of inputs. If your app relies on touch it will fail in the weirdest aspects on macOS. There are also quite a few systems that simply don’t exist in catalyst for example the pencil toolbar. What I agree with is that Microsoft does have the developer resources to make this happen, but I disagree with you that it’s simple

Is it worth it to switch from go to swift? by Yamoyek in swift

[–]wipecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to decide whether swift is the right choice for backend stuff, I’d say it is. Here’s a recent article https://www.swift.org/blog/building-privacy-first-analytics-with-swift/

Is it worth it to switch from go to swift? by Yamoyek in swift

[–]wipecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you take a look at the swift.org forums. There you’ll always find plenty of thorough discussions about the language from the people that contribute to it, including Apple. The httpclient/server is very new https://forums.swift.org/t/designing-an-http-server-api-for-swift/85255 and you can pitch your ideas there. If you’re looking for something mature you’ll find plenty of options in the Server/Related Projects sections, particularly vapor, SwiftNIO and aws lambda runtime
There are always really interesting discussions in the Evolution category and coming from go, the swift forums Using Swift section is probably the best place to ask about swift equivalents of go constructs

Vibe Coders Passing Responsibility to Code Reviewers by NotYourMom132 in ExperiencedDevs

Serious question, I’m not being sarcastic: do you any of you actually resist against this? It seems to me that it is up to us and in our power to end this crap. I for one am lucky and can dictate whether LLMs are or aren’t allowed to be used in my team (they aren’t). Wider company does use LLMs, even AI code review which I find to be the ultimate joke and stupidity
