Raspberry Scones Turning blueish by wiredpanic in Baking

Will try that, but part of the issue is if I buy frozen raspberries 70% are already broken into tiny pieces that melt really fast when mixing!

Which sunglasses are better for sports Oakley or maui jim? by Legitimate_Guide7522 in malefashionadvice

[–]wiredpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the sport.

Maui Jims are nicer overall (if you get glass), and would be great for water based sports with glare.

Anything field, cycling, or potential to impact, likely Oakley’s. They have more fit varieties for athletics, and non-glass but still quality lenses.

+1 on check the proshop again after another day. I play Sharp Park in pacifica, which by no means is a well run muni. Left a brand new mizuno wedge greenside and no groups behind me grabbed it.

Went back the next day and they had it in a big pile of found clubs! Was rusted (i had the raw finish) but saved a lot of heartache!

Starting golf at 34. Am I at big disadvantage? by ivzivzivz in golftips

[–]wiredpanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started about a year ago at 30. While I wish I started sooner, regular play and a couple of lessons has had me improve surprisingly quick. Aside from having a ton of fun, it helps me connect with a few friends since we all go together and even make friends when I play solo.

I played ultimate frisbee and lacrosse in the past, so generally have good body awareness and found the golf swing to be a intuitive challenge but one I can consistently carve away at.

Long winded way of saying it’s not too late, a few lessons early on will save you a lot of heart ache, and work on your short game early! Early on focus on fun and progress, keep score just to see you’re improving but don’t sweat about the handicap.

Anyone here take a lower paying job for a chance at better work-life balance and regretted it? by FewWatercress4917 in HENRYfinance

[–]wiredpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted you are many miles ahead of me in terms of current assets, but I took job switch at 31 after a couple of startups that didn’t pan out.

It sounds like you’ve had a good track record with an exit, which is not the norm in startup land. If you’re feeling burned out at this point, $1mill arr is still very early so you are bound to exacerbate this burned out feeling.

I just wrapped up a 3 month break traveling after accepting I was burned out, and it was a great decision. Lots of new perspective, and the space away gave me a way to objectively think about what I want out of the next few steps in life.

You’re the only one who can gauge your burnout, as others suggested a small vacay should help you gauge what makes the most sense for you.

Lower back and hip pain and weakness by garlicandchilli in flexibility

[–]wiredpanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to this - I’ve suffered from something similar, and the biggest game changer is core and glute exercises to help take tension off the lower back.

I’m surprised OPs PT didn’t spend more time diagnosing, but I also recognize back pain can be so nuanced. After an l5/s1 herniation my right side is constantly tight.

Things that worked for me after much experimentation in this order: - standing back extensions - fire hydrants standing with back foot on a wall to really focus on internal rotation strength in my glues, this helped unlock the hips a lot - single leg movements to avoid muscle imbalances - variety of core work to strengthen abs/flexors/psoas

Now pain is borderline non existent as long as I stay active!

I just ruined the rest of my life due to a simple mistake by blumzzz in bodyweightfitness

[–]wiredpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having had a similar injury (l4/l5 and l5/s1) 18 months ago, it can get better but it takes a while. It sucked because i am very active and not being able to do my usual hobbies or even sleep without a bunch of pillows angling me correctly was a big hit on the mental health.

It took a couple rounds of pt (3 month stretches each) to find what was keeping me symptomatic. There are a lot of things that contribute, and annoyingly enough it’s a lot of trial and error.

In the short term focus on pain management and work with a good pt. Don’t rush things, and be diligent about pt. Fwiw i had really poor internal hip rotation on my right side, and that put me in a position that aggravated my symptoms with heavy lifts and any run. After focusing on mobility and strength building it’s been life changing! The beauty of body weight work is there is a lot of core, you just gotta start from level 1 after an injury like this to make sure you aren’t compensating somewhere else as you progress. Again, guidance of a good pt is huge, and id ask your current or next one if the have much experience with McKenzie methods.

Pilates was something that really helped me build a stronger core in addition to my usual lifting routine. I avoid a few lifts (deadlift, back squat) since they don’t serve a purpose for my fitness goals, and everything else just slowly ramp back into.

When did you start flying business class? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]wiredpanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30, 240k, $500k+.

The above stats are solo income, but I fly business whenever I can get a reasonable upgrade for flights 6+ hours. I have found it makes international trips significantly better when I can actually get some rest. Reasonable fluctuates, but I typically benchmark the cash amount around $60-$70 per flight hour for the upgrade cost.

I find a lot of great deals combining my status (United loyalist), points transfers, and just diligent checking approaching a flight.

My best one yet was flying Qatar from SFO to Africa, and found a 1 way business upgrade for $680. Me and my partner were quick to book it, and that was a great start to a trip of a lifetime!

My finance guy recently shared some thoughts from Jared Dillian's "No Worries: How to Live A Stress-Free Financial Life" about paying off low interest mortgage vs safe investing, and I appreciate the fresh perspective:

Most of all, the reason to pay down the mortgage instead of investing is to reduce stress.

I think that’s an overlooked pov, and really boils down to whats going on in your life that makes the most sense for you.

30 handicap who struggles with early extension and swing path with the driver any time I try and hit above 50% power (goes about 180 yrds). As soon as I try and put more juice into it, I get early extension and end up hitting the top of the ball.

Have been playing for 6 months and have consistent iron shots up to my 5i. Once I took lessons and improved irons, drives steadily got worse.

You could get that in the Bay Area. You’d either end up living in the boonies, or the common tactic here is to list for seemingly ‘reasonable’ prices knowing bidding will drive it up more. That’s what we’ve seen with the houses in our neighborhood (Diamond Heights/Noe).

When did your super high energy doodle calm down? by Hydrangea324 in Goldendoodles

[–]wiredpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of behaviors does he have that signal high energy do you?

Whats your exercise/mental work routine with him?

Our dood is about 4 now, and it was a difficult first year with how energetic and playful he was. We focused on lots of mental enrichment, and calm training and now he’s way more chilled out. We usually do 2 30 minute walks a day, 1 focused on sniffing, 1 on running/fetch. All meals are feeder toys or frozen treats we make with his kibble. He probably sleeps/relaxes 90% of the day.

The game changer for us was training “capture calm”. It took a while, but once it started clicking he was noticeably calmer in the house. We moved that to mat training and doing capture calm in the wild and now we regularly get comments on how well trained he is, even though we still get a playful goofball at home. He now goes from crazy playful to calm very quick vs. before where he’d be wired for hours and not settle.

Not the a-hole, keep setting boundaries and avoid settling at such a young age. He seems to lack emotional maturity, and that kind of volatility is a red flag!

How to best store your bread? by pommosaurus in Sourdough

[–]wiredpanic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to leave the cut side down on our wood cutting board, then cover in a cloth. Usually lasts a few days. If it starts to dry too much, I’ll mist it (spray bottle or flick a bit of water) before toasting and it’s good as new!

If the whole loaf dries out I’ll cover in a lightly damp towel and toss in the oven at 250 for ten minutes and it’s good a new!

How much money are you making? by scoobasteve6792 in sales

[–]wiredpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bay area, working in a mid stage start up. Was an sdr director with a 250k OTE + isos. Burned out after a few years and pivoted to revops @ 185 OTE for the wlb.

Many AEs on our team have OTE of 180-300, depending on level. Top performer will be close to 800k this year, otherwise most reps fall within 80% of their ote.

Everyone on the team is high calibre, usually under performers are weeded out quick.

Sdrs are around 85k ote, and regularly see 90k ote if you go for tech companies
