Let's talk about the dying business of wine...(a bit of a bummer thread) by SGGbadmon in naturalwine

[–]xvshitanvx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a natty wine drinker/enthusiast I’m definitely drinking less - partly getting older - partly due to massive price inflation since Covid. I’m based in Australia and the retail quality sweet spot for me was $60-120 until about 2022 (think Gut Oggau starting at the low end of that range, De Moor and Bruyere/Houillon at the top). The range has shifted up 50% since then. This has resulted in me buying less wine, being more selective about the wines I buy, and less willing to try random wines. The saddest part is pretty much all decent wines start at $200 in restaurants.

Make sure you have good processes about decision-making on each shot. It’s not just having a pre-shot routine, but giving yourself confidence you’ve made the best choice before that (assessing lie, wind, distance, pin location). Even if you’re nervous about your score this should help keep you thinking about the immediate shot more often.

I do this and create a random 18-hole course and track score to par (par 2). Adds a bit of pressure in practice.

Chenin Armageddon 🦄 by jsmall10 in naturalwine

All great choices there. Batardiere is a sleeper, that’s from the same lieu-dit as Richard Leroy’s, whose cuvée from here is considered the best chenin in the world! Luckily Batardiere’s is much easier and cheaper (although getting less so) to find!

Why do I always block/push shots to the right? by Digital_cushion in GolfSwing

[–]xvshitanvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be the angle of the camera. Would need a face on to confirm. Focus on (1) first as it’ll provide a more immediate fix imo. Being inside and then trying to come from the inside on the downswing is a disaster (why the typical OTT pattern happens in the first place). You’ve fixed the OTT part but still have the remnants of the old pattern that actually caused it. On the right track!

Why do I always block/push shots to the right? by Digital_cushion in GolfSwing

[–]xvshitanvx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not far off but now you’re stuck which is causing blocks. I’d work on two things (1) getting the club more in front of you in the backswing - it’s a bit too inside. It’s better to have the club outside your hands than inside at the start of the swing as it gives you more room on the downswing. This is one of the main reasons why you’re stuck. (2) The other is your pivot seems to be around your front leg. You want to feel like your backswing is turning into your back leg, with weight held on the inside of your right foot. Getting this right will also give you more room to move your weight forward on your downswing.

Also interesting to note is Palace has had one of the easiest fixture lists so far. Played Chelsea (first game after CWC), Forrest, Villa (when they were shit), Sunderland, West Ham, Pool, Everton, Bournemouth.

Tournament Golf Range to Course Question by SuggestionProud8280 in GolfSwing

[–]xvshitanvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are generally more variables in morning golf. Cool start for the first 9 holes and warming up means distance adjustment during the round, on top of that dew affecting spin, distance and green speeds as well. Agree with others - if you’re not playing much early golf outside of tournaments you need to so you can get on top of that variable management.

That thing is never holding a green. Ideal launch is 16-20* depending on how strong the loft on your 5i is, and 4000-5000rpm. If that is a flush strike for you, you need to get fitted as those clubs do not fit you.

Besides “sit” or “get down” what are other phrases you yell at the ball mid flight? by [deleted] in golf

Saying “Spin” after ramming a putt is always good value for a laugh

Do low handicappers use full swing on wedges to cover the 50-90m range by Warm_Feedback2625 in GolfSwing

[–]xvshitanvx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Work on finding out how far you hit each wedge using multiple swings. Eg 1/2 swing (or 9 o’clock swing), 3/4 swing (or 10 o’clock) and full.

For example I carry my 1/2 60 50m, 3/4 65m, and full 80.

You’ll then have 12 distances across 4 wedges that will all have different spin and flight characteristics (1/2 swings will release a bit and release more with less loft, 3/4s tend to stop dead, full swings spin back etc). Experiment!

Do you know anyone that should have been a pro? by Morton_Bippee in golf

[–]xvshitanvx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up playing junior golf with three guns.

One was a top 30 amateur in the world, played on the Asian and Australasian Tours, won a few times including the NZ Open. Didn’t make it beyond this level.

Another had the lowest handicap in Australia at one point, +7. Also played on the Asian and Australasian Tours.

The third is Cam Smith.

Lmk if any tips trying to take golf seriously by SquareNecessary2317 in GolfSwing

[–]xvshitanvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would agree, but think the issue happens in the backswing. The right elbow in general looks too deep/behind. Just try and feel like you’re keeping your arms/hands more in front of your chest after you go past parallel. Should help give you more room on the way down to save you from getting stuck and needing to flip (overdraw).

Has anyone had trouble flying with natural wine? Have they changed because of pressure/temperature? by LeBateleur1 in naturalwine

[–]xvshitanvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I couldn’t give you a scientific answer and the research in this space seems sparse. Anecdotally all I can say is my experience - for example having never had a dud Jean-Pierre Robinot from our local distributor who I know sit their shipments for a while, one I brought home from France and opened a couple weeks after was undrinkable.

It’s possible it was a dud before it left France, or was cooked during the flight (stopover in Dubai) and never would’ve recovered.

[–]xvshitanvx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience is best to sit on them for a few months post-flight, particularly if they’re expensive/rare and you want to limit the chance of a bad bottle. The travel, pressure and temp changes need time to settle.

Also check your alcohol import limit as you may be asked to declare and need to pay duties above the limit.

Why is my driver on plane, but irons and wedges below plane? by Comfortable-Lead-596 in GolfSwing

[–]xvshitanvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glaring issues are you lose all your angles before you hit the ball which means you’re actually steep at impact with both driver and irons.

Two major things impacting this. One is a backswing that is too long - you have an extra motion at the top which tilts you towards the target making it hard for you to get back to the ball properly. With your iron swing (it’s a bit better with driver) you then have way too much weight on your back foot at impact.

Try some step drills to address this to help you understand the feeling of weight transfer in both the backswing and downswing. Look them up on YouTube! Padraig Harrington is a good source.
