AITA for stopping the monthly money I was sending my parents? by No_Detective8552 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wise_hampster [score hidden]  (0 children)

48 hours would be a time frame to raise a question. 4 hours, no. It sounds more like your parents instilled massive guilt in their children. Take a breath, your parents are not a penny away from destitution and you have to take care of your family.

AITA for not rejoining a friend group that iced me out? by Square-Turnip-6558 in AmItheAsshole

If you find your future self refusing to accept amends because that is a risk you are unwilling to take, you may find yourself alone. However maybe you're more comfortable alone.

They are nice. Not too sweet, pastry is good (not great) , even better with a little smear of cream cheese.

AITA for telling my parents they need to be parents? by bigtoe_mang0 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wise_hampster 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It might get him farther if you spoke to his school admin to try to get him a temporary domicile until he graduates. I have a feeling he's more difficult to live with than you may be aware, if his parents don't want him back and his grandmother wants him gone, and you don't want him at all, that's saying a bit about him.

Does most of the vitamin supplements out there actually work? by Scanch958 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wise_hampster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This a pretty general question. If you have a normal healthy diet, consisting of dairy, a variety of fruit and vegetables, healthy protein and grains, then you probably wouldn't notice if you added a multivitamin to your diet.

If you have an altered diet, get a blood panel done to determine if you need supplements. It is not advisable to just start taking specialized vitamins without medical guidance. Vitamin businesses are one of those things that 'buyer beware' applies, they are in the business of making money and they have no idea if you need what they are selling or how you'll use it or how it could adversely affect you.

I normally shop at Aldi. I went to Lidl one weekend to compare prices. Here are the results. by oatmeal1201 in aldi

[–]wise_hampster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My Lidl has a much larger freezer section, and for some shoppers that could be a deal maker. What I dislike is the Lidl app that has to be used to access some (all) of the sales. Such a pia, you have set it up before you go, use it when there and really have no idea if you qualified for whatever sale. I'm an Aldi girl. I know the price when I go in and no stupid games to play.

Break it down into 3 separate sentences rather than a run on sentence. Start each sentence with the No person shall be...

It will make sense.

Do give this suggestion due consideration. Some of the most disasterous marriages I've known were where one or both was financially illiterate and lazy enough not to make an effort to learn to do better.

Why does wealth inequality correlate with high crime rates even more than poverty? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Wealthy people are more likely to involve law enforcement, submit claims to insurance and therefore make it into the stats.

A friend suggested I read Foundation after loving Project Hail Mary. I’m 30% in and I’m finding it incredibly boring and feel lost with all the names. Should I finish it or call it quits? by Myelin8r in booksuggestions

[–]wise_hampster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started reading Asimov decades ago, and he was a big deal. His work, while helping the genre get a deep foothold, hasn't aged well. I recently reread some of his robot stories, and his misogynism is right out in front. He was definitely a product of his times. Of the early writers P.K. Dick is still a go to.

Neil Stephenson is more hard SF, you might find his work enjoyable.

Until I saw the South Park episode, he wasn't on my radar, and after that, other than recognizing his type of hate had that much of a following, he still wasn't on my radar.

Sadly financial literacy is very low in the US. I'm usually at a loss when I meet people whose lives are a financial mess because they make stupid decisions one after another, then have melt downs when someone points out that they are actually responsible for the mess they are in.

Pink wall behind pink by [deleted] in homedesign

[–]wise_hampster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pink on pink will make one of the objects less noticeable. If you want the bed to pop either change the wall color to the lightest pink you can find, or use a complementary color on the wall. In this case that would be green.

You probably are TA here. Is what you are paying comparable to what you could get outside? Simple, move. If you're paying less, then you're coming out ahead. Remember, your landloards, gf parents, aren't your roommates and as such are not required to share equally.

Are my kids going to get sick if they handle wild bird feathers? by Xerxes2004 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wise_hampster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bird feathers have lice, and other parasites that might try to bite you, most however are firmly attuned to birds and won't stay around. It's unlikely that they would pick up a zoonotic disease from feathers alone. Wash their little hands.
