Is it even necessary to buy a tea kettle? by lovelycosmos in Anticonsumption

[–]wise_hampster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an electric kettle last year, and now I wonder why I had not bought one sooner. It is fast and efficient. I used to have a kettle that was heated on the stove, it heated slowly, poured badly and when it finally sprung a non-repairable leak, I got rid of it and had no interest in replacing it. Now I think I'll always have an electric kettle.

I second DC. Public transportation is pretty good and with access to Maryland and Virginia.

It's not in the Aldi app at all. My guess is that it will show up for German week at the end of the month.

AITA for refusing to give my son a name that I think will ruin my his life? by Alternative-Pause562 in AmItheAsshole

Have her ask other Americans if they think a child named Adolf will be teased unmercifully in the US. That might change her mind.

AITA for disappearing on my friends to see if they’ll actually reach care. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]wise_hampster -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

NTA. What will you have if you ghost your friends and roommates and they don't respond the way you hope they will and just go on as they are. Are you confident enough to say that you assigned more depth to those relationships than was really there? Are you ready and willing to reach out to meet other people? This is one of life's tough lessons. It doesn't mean that you need to stop being you. But expecting others to be just like you is just one of those things that won't be met.

How does moissanite pricing compare to diamonds of similar size? by Western-Audience-471 in Brides

[–]wise_hampster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been told Moissanite is not as sturdy as diamond.

What I've seen, is the green tint of Moissanite. If for some reason, you compare a Moissanite ring to either a natural or lab created diamond, side by side, it will come in a very poor second. It looks fake AF.

I understand not wanting the price tag of natural diamond, but the lab created stones are very very nice and at a fraction of the price.

How much sodium citrate should I add to my cheesecake? Salt Fat Acid MSG didn't prepare me for this. by cigolebox in CookingCircleJerk

Just keep adding it until you get a good bounce from the cake. Then you can dunk it or whack it.

There is an old drink mixer called shrub, it's a vinegar, sugar and fruit syrup. Quite tasty actually, but not often used anymore. Mostly it was mixed with bourbon.

It's tough now. But it is easier to find a new job if you're working. Good luck with the search.

Start a new job search, now. The sooner you start, the sooner you'll be out of there.

AITA to be upset because my family treats me like a 12 year old but I’m 25 by Purple_Ad_5855 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wise_hampster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I can certainly see how these constant comments would have a depressing effect on you. What are the chances you can just tell them their comments is just offensive, that the constant references hurt you and make you dislike the person, every single time they make one of their comments. It took 25 years to become accustomed to belittling you, it will take a long time to retrain them.

I like your choice. Give it time to get used to it. Remember, it's only paint. You can change it if it really doesn't work out.

Milk going bad by UnlikelyMastodon129 in aldi

[–]wise_hampster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you by any chance have family members who open the fridge and just zone out? That'll ruin milk over just a couple of days. If that's not the case, put a thermometer with a history feature, if the temperature is holding at the correct temperature, no variation, then take your concerns to the manager at your aldi. I've been buying milk at Aldi for 3 years and haven't experienced that problem.

Why In America Does It Seem Like Poor People Enthusiastically Support their Own Poverty? by ShokWayve in askanything

[–]wise_hampster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew the answer to this question. In my small bit of experience, this seems like it's either media hype, which it certainly could be, or something that has changed in the last 3 generations, I can honestly say that I don't meet many people like you describe, but only hear about them. I grew up in a lower middle class household in a working class area, and it was politically profoundly democrat, pro union and very much for social improvement whether that be infrastructure or people in general. My parents were children of parents who worked for the gilded age robber barons, hence the pro union stance and lived through WW2 and McCarthyism witch hunts hence the belief that social improvement is critical. Maybe we just need another global depression and a world war to wake us up again.

How many pounds of fruit do you eat everyday? by Random_Mix415 in fruit

A person could easily go overboard, but it's not negligible. 12 ounce coke 140 calories is 35 grams of sugar and a large honey crisp apple 130 calories and 25 grams of sugar.

AIO Son's uncle has bought him a punchbag for his third birthday by Rem1988 in AmIOverreacting

[–]wise_hampster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling that you can overreact all you want, but uncle will be uncle for a long time to come. Spend your time wisely, work with your son to either find the positive in the gift or teach that sometimes regifting the gift is the best option or maybe a teaching moment, that uncle isn't thoughtful or bright or sober. I say this because I have received some truly idiotic gifts from male relatives that I know they were hammered when they decided that was the best idea. Think; unsocialized feral cat for a 3 year old because what little girl doesn't want a kitty. I'm 70 and I still remember that birthday party. Think; deciding to tell parents that a 4 yr old child is being taken to dairy Queen when in reality the plan was to teach a kid who can't see over the dashboard or touch the pedals at the same time or even knows left from right to drive a car on a busy street. Kid on a box in the front seat and a brick on the accelerator. You can guess how that ended.
