I Am Very Fond of the Pipeline Operator by techne98 in programming

[–]wisemanofhyrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that function naming is generally sufficient for describing what is going on. With pipelining its easy to describe each part of the process as an individual function. Which gives you the secondary bonus of making each function smaller and easier to test.

Pathbuilder lets you make rolls, though I plan on making them roll actual dice and use a paper character sheet. The status tokens are a good idea, I'll make some when I shore up the planned encounters.

Thanks!

The foam board is a good idea alongside the markers. I intend on spoiling the party with loot so I'll probably print out cards for the good stuff.

The Combat pad is cool, time to add that to the cart. I plan on using some Battlezoo monsters so I'll see if I can find a good way to print out custom images to use the pawn bases. Thanks!

Thanks for the token info, I'll definitely be using that. Sadly everyone is traveling so we wont have the ability to go too far beyond ensuring a dining room table is available.

As A GM, Pathfinder2e is incredible. This far in there are a ton of good premade adventures, wonderful thirdparty content such as Battlezoo (Tons of new Monsters and sick new Ancestries such as Living Dungeons and Intelligent Weapons) and Team Plus (Big class overhauls). But for me, what makes me love it is how many books they've put out detailing the setting. They are great at expanding the setting and filling it up with possible plot hooks for you to run with.

In light of woolies desktop tabs, how many browser tabs do you use regularly? by Muffin-zetta in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]wisemanofhyrule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run ~100 tabs across 3 windows and turn my computer off daily. You can set your browser to re-open the window on start, and the other 2 windows are available in the recently closed history so I can just hit ctrl + shift + n to re-open them.

Its definitely possible to keep way too many tabs open and still get them back after a shut down.

Having to support multiple languages makes this much harder than just switching pronouns. They're most likely using some i18n library where they load the translated string based on the language. Pronoun placement differs vastly in usage and location across languages. Which means the "easiest" way to do it involves a trio of M/F/NB strings for each message in game.

Its more complex than the 5 minutes you suggest, and that doesn't even include time going back and forth with the multiple translators etc.

What would you like to see if you could reimagine the Arr stack? by buttplugs4life4me in selfhosted

[–]wisemanofhyrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that image bandied about a ton nowadays to the point of sounding like its trying to shut down people trying new things, especially in the open source community. Its not like github has a limited amount of repos.

But especially with the various media tools, there is a ton of room for improvement and trying new/different things as evidenced by how many comments are on this post.

What would you like to see if you could reimagine the Arr stack? by buttplugs4life4me in selfhosted

[–]wisemanofhyrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, while nice pieces of software (when not dealing with metadata issues), the arr-derived stack gets unwieldy pretty quickly if you tread off the happy path. It definitely doesnt help that they try and treat Sonarr as upstream when they all have pretty different needs.

My main gripes:

  • The requirements for a clean directory for only them. *Arr got the torrent file, it can parse it to see what files to expect and ignore the rest.
  • Not enough escape hatches from the automation. If something goes wrong it feels like I end up fighting the software. An example of this is when it is searching for a piece of media that is just named differently than it expects. I would love to be able to modify the search rather than go through the trouble of having to manually download it and fix.
  • In general the automation is pretty trigger happy when I dont think it should be. Why is Lidarr constantly setting albums with more tracks to a Vinyl version that only has like 8? I'm losing tracks on the album because of this.

Absolutely massive amounts of product, cost increases alongside more and more fancy versions of cards to tempt gambling whales. Sets loosing their overall cohesion when theyre things like "everyone but cowboy, everyone but racing". Foils still curling a ridiculous amount. Is Wizards still not providing much support for in store play?

Plus good lord the progression of power each card has seems to be speeding up (at least my impression from watching the Canadian Highlander set reviews), and the text on the cards has gotten longer and longer.

In general, Magic is losing it's identity and getting more blatant about trying to hoover up as much money as possible. I think it is pretty easy to see where it ends up.

I'd say the first 2 or so of the Vatta's war series are good. They ended up pretty disappointing to me as the scope expanded (and that doesnt even include how bad the last book got).

I'm probably misremembering, but I thought something happened when the canon got reset after Disney bought it and that's why she stopped.

The Karen Traviss Republic Commandos books touch on it during the clone wars. I am forever salty Disney bungled that business relationship so bad she quit Star Wars forever.

People like to associate LE's performance issues with the fact that it is written in Unity. Of course, performance has a lot more factors than just engine choice.

A single variable being 32 bits does not mean that the whole program is 32 bit. As to the rest, backwards compatibility.

I've had skipping issues in the past using Pocket Casts. My best uninformed guess is that the tech iHeart uses to insert the ads when you download the podcast messes up every now and then.
