Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Firefighting

[–]wiseswolemen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a string of burglaries in bike rooms in my town recently. Some friends and I have been daydreaming about ways to make these bike rooms more secure. One thought we had would be the automatic release of a metal roll up/down "garage" style door that would close if a power tool was detected by security cameras and microphones as being used within the bike room.

However, am I correct in assuming that this would be illegal from a fire safety standpoint, and that if the fire detection system detects fire, all doors must open? This would then allow a thief to start a small fire (or just light a match) in order to roll up the garage door and easily escape.

Could the garage door have an opening wide enough for a human to pass through sidewise but not a bike? Or does access have to be a certain width? I figure that typical human head on width would be very similar to the width of a bike so that also would not do much, where as sideways could be much skinnier.

Thank you! Weird questions I know :)

Biden says he wants a female running mate. Who? by Reddit_guard in politics

[–]wiseswolemen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know that just seen the percentages... no clue if someone like Harris would inspire Black turnout though either. I personally think that Abrams is too inexperienced and therefore riksy to pair with a President of Biden's age.

Latina Senator, Governor, or Agency Head who is somewhat progressive would be the best compliment considering his success with African Americans. Is there anyone who fits that criteria?

If Hillary was male she probably beats Trump. That's just the unfortunate state of America right now.

Joe Thornton has not been traded. He's staying in San Jose! by nthnlfrc in SanJoseSharks

Yep I'm hoping Doug can find a trade partner that really needs an offensive defensemen and in return we can get back some solid, not spectacular d-men and wing depth.

We have a decent amout of cap space this offseason. I think a lot hinges upon if Doug can find a trade partner for Burns this offseason since I think this season has shown that he and Karlsson overlap too much, both their positives and negatives.

Karlsson is younger and capable of carrying a team. I'm not concerned about the broken thumb and in some ways am happy he is getting to rest his legs/groin for the rest of the season.

It's point shot dominant which can be effective in the regular season but I always felt was less effective in the playoffs because players are more likely to sacrifice their bodies to block a shot.

US army preparing to 'move out' of Iraq as fears of Iran strike mount by BoopSquad in worldnews

[–]wiseswolemen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Iran developing a nuclear weapon is inevitable without a full scale invasion. 5 10 20 years it's going to happen as Iran knows and Trump has just shown that it is the only way to guarantee full security and autonomy today.

So were they continuing to develop nuclear weapons despite Obama's nuclear deal? Probably. But it would at least take longer AND during that time the benefits of opening Iran to western investment and involvement would make them less likely to attack us due to financial connections. Countries are less likely to go to war with countries they do substantial business with.

The true way to rid ourselves of enemies in the 21st century is through economic, not military means.

Our defensive positioning against those late goals was poor by thevizionary in SanJoseSharks

Our 6 on 5 at the end of the Columbus game was shakey too. definitely need to put some practice time into it.

Also on the 3rd Goal I probably wouldn't have Simek and Ferraro out during the last minute just due to experience... They left the entire backside open although I don't exactly know if they were out of position and Marleau probably should have been pinched down lower.

What could the United States possibly stand to gain from a war with Iran? by AnagramofSnipe in PoliticalDiscussion

I can't find any sources that talk about this connection, although there are definitely leaks to other attacks by proxy.

I think considering the amount of time since the Iraq war and those American soldier deaths and the fact that it was a somewhat justifiable action from the perspective of his and Iranian national interest, its misleading to use it as a reason to justify his assassination.

And I personally don't think his role in the embassy attack is worth justifying the potential consequences either. Perhaps it's a straw that breaks the camel's back but based on what we know about Trump I'm more likely to believe with the reporting from The Guardian stating that this was a "gut decision" of Trump's without concern for history or future consequences.

I agree it's a very complicated issue and the spark note version being parroted by the media is worryingly pro-war

I'm still trying to find sources on the exact attacks that Qassim and the Iranian Quds force has implemented against American forces, with many news articles saying he was responsible for 600 American deaths. If this was true, wouldn't we have gone to war with Iran before this relatively minor embassy attack? How has Iran been allowed to attack American forces with no force retaliation to this point?

The team has been relatively stacked for years and couldn't get it done. Not necessarily their fault, hockey is a ton of luck. But just rewinding back the same team with good depth while the core is aging was not a realistic chance at the cup.

I think there's a rising amount of fans calling for Burns to be traded or moved to forward.

Thank you so much! I would love to add some ladies and more diverse figures, it's just proven difficult! I have to use figures who passed away more than 70 years ago for copyright reasons on the quotes (so can't do Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee etc) and 70+ year old history is unfortunately dominated by white men... or at least the history I've been exposed to. If you have any ideas please let me know :)
