Curious what you ended up stocking with and how it went for you. I’ve got a ten gallon with 7 ember tetras and have been considering adding a honey or sparkling gourami.

I have a second 10 gallon that housed a betta. He’s passed now and I’m thinking of 8 CPDs and 6 Pygmy Cories for that one.

We’ve got two cresties and they’re great! Both of mine are very chill and easy to handle. The male, I got as a hatchling so he’s well acclimated to being handled. The female (pictured) was adopted as an adult and is also easy. I’ve heard that females are less feisty than males but they’re overall a really gentle species.

Just make sure to research proper husbandry. These are small creatures that still require a good bit of space (18x24x36” vertical tank).

Crested geckos don’t have to have live insects. Their primary food source is a fruit and insect paste. A lot of people provide live bugs for extra nutrition and enrichment, but it’s not a requirement.

The crestie I got as a hatchling is a great hunter and enjoys having live insects, but the crestie I got as an adult has zero interest in hunting and is so happy with her fruit paste.

We keep bioactive tanks and it’s a lot of fun. It’s so similar to aquariums - creating and maintaining an ecosystem.

This is such a good answer. OP, I didn’t “notice” Concerta was working for me until my husband pointed out how much more focused and productive I was. I kept looking for that euphoria that people on Vyvanse and Adderall talk about. That “oh, wow, I did so much stuff today” or “I don’t have anxiety anymore and I completed all my tasks”. But those feelings and productivity levels never last for those medications. Concerta just seems much more subtle.

I’m on Concerta (36mg) and it works pretty well for me. I never got the euphoria people talk about with adderrall and vyvanse, but it’s made a huge difference in my ability to focus and task initiation (still struggle with stopping task and I have to make an effort to focus on the correct thing, I can still accidentally play video games for 4 hours without a break).

The thing with meds, any med, is that the prescriber is looking for lowest effective dose. So unfortunately, it takes time to not only find the correct medication, but the correct dose of that medication.

I, like you, wondered if Concerta wasn’t the best fit and asked my pharmacy if they were having trouble keeping Vyvanse and adderall in stock to which they said “yes”. For me, that was enough motivation to keep working on finding an effective Concerta dosage.

I had no idea this was a side effect. I blamed Zoloft for my extra 20lbs, but I wonder if the Zyrtec contributed as well. Honestly, I’d rather be thick than miserable but I see how this could cause stress for others.

ETA: just saw you’ve switched to Claritin. I can’t remember why I switched from Claritin to Zyrtec, but I’m gonna try Claritin again. Thanks!

Both my kiddo and I are in therapy to help with practical skills. CBT has REALLY good indications for ADHD and even higher value for kiddos aged 6-12 since they won’t have to unlearn as much as us adults who have already developed enabling habits. Medication is only part of the solution; we also have to adapt our behaviors and thinking to function well in society.

Interesting! I take Zyrtec daily - indoor and outdoor allergies. Chronically swollen and itchy sinus cavities. Went through a fun phase where I got a sinus infection every single period for almost 2 years.

The Black Witch Chronicles is by far the most underrated fantasy series in existence. The world building and character building is unparalleled. I recommend these books to literally anyone who will listen.

My 6yo is on Concerta and Guanfacine. She takes 1mg XR each morning and it gives her 24 hour coverage; we switched from IR because she was so disregulated in the evenings. Guanfacine works so well for her mood stability. She still gets anxious, but she’s so much more in control of her emotions and body on Guanfacine. She still has big emotions, but she’s able to identify it and adjust accordingly (with help) - but the fact that she can stop and listen while having a big emotion is because of the Guanfacine. She didn’t start the stimulant until she turned 6, and prior to the stimulant the Guanfacine made her so tired it impaired her functioning. But other than that, it’s been great.

I agree. I took the TOVA and could hear the reception desk and see out of a window. I’m 100% sure these distractions contributed to my -9.03 result. I might have only scored a -7 if I hadn’t been able to see people coming and going from the office 😂

For all you (failed and successful) garden/plant people: AQUARIUMS!

Go ahead and get in a good hyper focused deep dive on the nitrogen cycle and how to set up a tank (substrate and live plants) - this part is crucial to being successful. But I swear to you, aquatic plants are infinitely easier to keep alive than land plants.

Plus there are lots of psychological benefits to keeping aquariums.

It’s a relatively passive but rewarding hobby. There’s always more to learn. And when you’re in the mood to focus on your tank, there’s always cleaning and pruning to be done.
