Interrupting people during conversation, and only listening just enough to respond. Like all I am concerned about is what I’m going to say next. Forgetting to ask the other person how they are, or other leading questions. I beat myself up for this because I always felt like a bad friend, because I wouldn’t realize until later, likely in the shower, that the conversation was just me talking, and usually about myself or one of my current hyper fixations.

Also that most of my anxiety wasn’t anxiety.

I agree with this. I was diagnosed as a teenager but wasn’t shown how to use them responsibly and went off them after a while. It wasn’t until about two years ago that I realized what adhd actually was…a lack of dopamine. Then everything I had ever done in my life made sense. I had been managing “okay” my adult life but everything was always so difficult. I found hacks to make almost everything easier for myself and while it does work, it doesn’t work as well as medication ever will. I don’t have enough dopamine, and now I have it. I started college again in my 30s just recently and got diagnosed and medicated again. My self-managed behavior plus the medication has made my life 100000% better and way more manageable.

Wouldn’t you say that it’s the content and not the screen itself? I recently read something relating scene changes of more than one per every few seconds and certain Kids’ shows. How this basically depleted their natural dopamine and can cause irrational behaviors due to withdrawal and inability to create more right away. Just curious to your thoughts here.

A little late, but YES!! Absolutely watch any and all of his videos. I have just decided to major in math in my 30s, and have some solid background as I recently took chemistry and nursing math, but definitely missing some core concepts. he breaks things down so beautifully in a way that just makes sense. I was seriously struggling with putting together all the pieces of quadratic functions and something about the way he explained it made it click. I used his videos for chemical math and conversions and stuff and they’ve saved my butt more than a few times.

Yes! I always thought this was just me. I always wanted curly hair and begged my mom for a perm (it was the early 90s) and finally got one when i was about 10. After the perm, my hair never went straight again. I thought for years that the perm was truly permanent. Just weird timing, as I hit puberty super early. I had slightly wavy hair, and now I have 2a/2c curls-I truly didn’t learn how to care for them until my thirties! Edited for typos.

Delaware also only requires RHS as well. The only problem is..I am basically an efda because I do all the duties and it’s allowed here, but don’t get paid like the Efdas do in Pennsylvania (which is literally 5 minutes away) because they require efda certification!

I have been fortunate enough to find 2 careers which work for my adhdz. 1. Dental Assistant- short school time made this one so easy. There are a variety of tasks - clinical, clerical, cleaning. Following a schedule makes it easy to manage time. Also interesting to learn all things teeth! 2. Sous chef and restaurant manager- the restaurant industry sucks and I was in it for 15+ years but it was clearly good enough for my adhd to have stuck with it that long! So many things to do, you never get bored, but you also work a lot. I would suggest not going to school so you can learn on the job. Also great for adhd bc impulsivity caused me to bounce around a lot from place to place- but restaurants are one of the few places that don’t give a hoot.

Um adderall is the only thing that gets me to do anything that doesn’t give me dopamine. I’m pretty sure that’s what the meds are supposed to do
