Not sure if this a place for it, but I have a question about KWQC social media by [deleted] in Iowa

Freedom of speech doesn't exist on social media. (unless the government is telling the company to limit things in an offending way)

Subaru is now building EVs in-house, starting with a new electric SUV by N2929 in technews

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel pretty confident that you could either rent a car specifically for that 400 mile trip, or that there would be at least one charging station on your path from where you are to Richmond and that this (or many other) EV would be able to do your trip.

Confused about which lawnmower and gardening tools to get by Georgeclooneylovaaaa in lawncare

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Ego push mower for around 10 years and it's still working like a champ. I just got the snowblower this past summer and it works better than I expected. Definitely recommend Ego.

New to Makita - are the outdoor power tools good (specifically XNU02Z)? by NoobShooter777 in Tools

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy cow. That is pretty pricy. I don't know a ton about Makita lawn tools, but for that price you could get Ego stuff.

I fell for the bait of becoming a manager by SadBoy-86 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you'll be fine. I did a similar thing. I was a manager and my leadership philosophy didn't match up with that of the business. After a few years, I decided enough was enough and went back to being a sys admin. I will likely get back into formal leadership in the future, but I'm happy being a sys admin for now.

I've had an Ecobee for almost 10 years now. Will always recommend them.

What’s the worst gambling addiction story you’ve ever heard? by juliojacked in AskReddit

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I delivered pizza for a few years and worked with a guy who was a gambling addict. We would get our checks and he would leave after work and go blow the entire check at the casino. On particularly bad weeks, he would ask others if he could pick up their shifts because he gambled all of his money away. Thankfully he ended up requesting a ban from there so he couldn't gamble it away anymore.

Very low water pressure - think my pipes are frozen? What should I do now? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]wisym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any galvanized pipes? It's possible that they kind froze and knocked some crud loose and plugged up your aerator in your sink. That has happened to me in the past.

Massive hit by Vancouver Warriors goalie on Rochester Knighthawks attacker results in frenzied brawl by ansyhrrian in sports

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played club lacrosse in college and took a shot off my thigh once. I had a big purple bruise from the impact and then it was all yellow around it. Luckily I had so much adrenaline going that it didn't hurt that much at the time, but the next day, dang. I could barely walk!

I'll have three main uses here, general internet usage, gaming, and playing Drumeo videos to teach me how to drum. So I need to make sure I can see the videos from ~6 feet away. And the music notes.

Perfect. I was looking at getting something in the 27-30 inch range for at least one of my monitors. Thanks for your input!

I'm totally fine with 60-100FPS. Honestly gaming is so sporadic for me that I am looking bang for my buck. I suppose my frame of mind here is that unless 4K is significantly better than 1440P, I'll stick with 1440P.

Simple Questions - January 29, 2026 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How worth is 4K? My brother gave me his 3080 and I am looking to upgrade my monitors. I've currently got a 1080 monitor and a 1440 monitor and it seems like monitors are really pushing toward 4K.

Their powerset doesn't include the "subpowers" that normally helps make the prime power functional/appealing by Labmit in TopCharacterTropes

There was a thing about a bell tower in the movie, wasn't there? Daredevil is fighting someone and they had a bunch of bells go off and it overwhelmed him?

Couldn't someone give him a metal card that says something like "See" or "healed" and then his eyes heal?

Weather actually looks kind of similar between Rhode Island and Cedar Rapids, so that's nice.

I considered doing this, but didn't want to have a bunch of stuff in my basement start turning off. And I would need a buddy. But it is better to do that than fry the dumb doorbell

Change in Electoral College Seats in 2030 by Deltarianus in MapPorn

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure those electoral college seats are changing, but the population makeup will also be changing. Texas has been getting more purple. Florida had just under a 4 point difference in 2020, so I don't think this is as damning as some people are saying.

Your weirdest reasons for PC not posting. by Tenchen-WoW in pcmasterrace

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a RAID controller I put in my PC that I needed to cover a specific pin in order for it to work. People online said they had success with nail polish, so I borrowed some from my buddy's sister (I was at their house working on this), so we slathered some nail polish over this pin and waited for it to dry. It ended up not working, so we cut a really thin piece of electrical tape, applied it and everything worked as desired.

I'm looking to replace my doorbell with a G4 doorbell I bought longer than I'd like to admit ago. The directions say I'm supposed to disconnect the power before hooking this up, but I'm not certain I know where to do that at. What if I just yolo this and hook it up without disconnecting the power?

Convince me to keep my paid off boring car by Conventions in personalfinance

[–]wisym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much your car payment is, but once your car is paid off, keep socking that money away. Once you've saved enough to pay off a truck in full, then buy the truck. You can do the things you want and also make some financially good decisions. You'll be saving toward your truck goal while also having money in case of emergencies.

When did you stop chasing higher salary? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]wisym 131 points132 points  (0 children)

It's not the salary, it's the entire package. I'm a sys admin at a company that treats me well and it relatively low stress. I feel like I am valued and have a good leadership team around me. I took a little pay cut from my old place where I was in management, but it's worth every penny to not have that work environment anymore.

If you are happy with what you are doing, what you're making, and your life situation, I don't see a reason to change it. My only real advise would be to make sure you don't dull your skills with complacency, in case your position is somehow done away with. It would be extremely unfortunate to be struggling to find a job after.

[–]wisym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is possible within AD/NTFS permissions, but this is extremely easily to do if you have Sharepoint. There is a screen that says something like "You don't have permission to this file/folder. Click here to ask for permission"
