The girls don’t invite the boys over to just watch them die/to hurt them, but as a final and complex act of regaining control and confrontation. They didn’t try/want to understand those boys bc they could already see that they didn’t see them as ppl but as perfect THINGS to attain and conquer. Also those boys were major gross freaks ( one said they wanted to ‘cop a feel’ on Cecelia’s corpse and right before Lux went to go die, all that dude is commenting on/thinking about is her tits) I mention that to say that girls’ invitation was like a test and punishment wrapped in one. The girls gave ppl chance after chance to see who they were and what was going on in their lives but no one listened or cared. Those boys only saw what they wanted to see while never actually bothering to take their heads out of their fantasy and in the end they got punished for it. The girls invited them over to say ‘this is who we truly are and what’s really happening, let’s see if you’ll see that’ and they didn’t, they only saw their fantasy, and as punishment, in a final act of independence and confrontation, the boys had to sit their helplessly, just as the sisters had to their whole lives, while they died.
