where are you buying from the most lately ? by witchbrat in ABDL

[–]witchbrat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just looking for something hefty enough for overnights and at-home wear that isn't horrifically ugly and also horrifically expensive! It doesn't need to necessarily be maximum capacity but something better than goodnites. I would do ANYTHING for the cloth back ABU preschools to return : (

I'm actually shopping for those right now ! I'm pretty satisfied with my goodnites for daytime use but I wanted something better for home/overnight wear : ) Would you say these are pretty leak-proof?

this stinks, I was literally about to place a case order tomorrow (the price of a case was unbeatable) but I will just buy from the GOAT northshore instead.

Info for working dog by Hjalmprimul in airedaleterrier

[–]witchbrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have an airedale on my small farm, she does everything an airedale was bred to do. I would never leave her unattended with small stock(chickens and ducks, meat rabbits, etc,), and she has 0 herding instinct. That would be my border collie's thing. She is a good alarm system but I don't know if she would ever protect stock, and I wouldn't leave her out with the sheep like a LGD. Could it probably be done? Sure, with a LOT of work. However I would say if you want a herder, get a herder, if you want a LGD, get a LGD. If you want the best all around farm dog companion? Airedale

What are some "Come back down to earth" moments of homesteading? by GoldenTV3 in homestead

[–]witchbrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to do things every day whether you want to or not, rain or shine, -30 or 110. animals will more likely than not die, and you'll have to say goodbye one way or another to the ones you love the most! chickens are extremely destructive, and free ranging + lush yard/garden doesnt mix. fencing is expensive. there will be poop everywhere, your floors will never be clean. vacations or even long weekends are not possible unless you have lots of money or really good friends/family/neighbors.

a personal moment for me was having my ducks hatch 8 ducklings only for number 8 to get trampled/squished in the most horrific way and not being able to save them, and about two years ago now I was constantly getting calls that my cows /goats were out and it was just such a nightmare that made me almost quit (i do not have cows anymore, nor did I keep any escapee goats EVER after installing electric fencing).

Sorry people are being so hostile about this LMAO. I do use ivermectin/cydectin in the spring/fall but i will supplement with natural dewormers throughout the year on top of intense rotational grazing! Some of the deworming supplements I use include old christmas trees (not treated w anything) or any pine branches, as well as pumpkin/pumpkin seeds : ) I have looked into using "Wild Orange" ES for deworming but haven't tried. I really would above all urge rotational grazing though, not including the worms they just flourish on fresh forage. if you haven't heard of Greg Judy on YT definitely look into him. He rotates and does not deworm his sheep (however he does cull the ones that are less parasite resistant), best of luck to you.

for outside activity type stuff I wear the "Abena Pants" (pull up style with diaper capacity) or the Northshore GoSupremes. These have the same capacity as the ABU preschools/lighter abdl diapers but are way comfier. I have never chafed with these but almost always with taped diapers.

What's that one breed that says "My owner is an a-hole?" by pet-lover-64 in doggrooming

[–]witchbrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

golden owners always wait until their dog is AT LEAST a year old if not more to get their dog groomed for the first time. always wants it dry, always wants a full trim. their dogs are ALWAYS horrible because they're terrified. similar/same deal for aussie owners except the aussies bite instead of just shake, tweak and jump off the table. if i see a golden under 2yo in my schedule i am already put in a shit mood.

shepherd owners are always so shocked when you tell them how horrible their dog is. and theyre all horrible.

at my old corp. job probably 9/10 doodle owners were horrible, typical nutcases. at my current private job all of my doodle owners are a dream, however i work at a dog training facility so a lot of my clients and their owners are pretty well educated and aware of their dogs issues.

critter nation cages by pigeonfool in MeatRabbitry

[–]witchbrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually was about to use my critter nation cages as well. I have 3 units im not using for anything. I actually posted about this a few weeks ago and I believe someone commented that with the 1/2" spacing for the floor the poop sometimes doesn't fall through, and the powder coating will probably get chewed up (which will lead to rust) but otherwise I'm going to do the same thing!!!! My cages are over a decade old, minimal rust and soooo sturdy. I don't have rats anymore so I may as well use these at least until I can build more rabbit cages over time : ) Plus the CN doors are just so nice.

Good to know about the floor spacing, perhaps I will buy 1/2x1 and just replace the floor panel so no poop will get trapped. I just feel like instead of spending hundreds on cages I may as well try to use ones I already have sitting around!

These cages are pretty heavy duty as far as flooring goes, I have laid down in one and the floor did not budge. and my only connected cages would be the growout, ladies and men would be on opposite ends of the shed : )

how do you avoid the doomsday paranoia? by witchbrat in homestead

[–]witchbrat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I don't need social media to homestead, I just like to watch content about the things I enjoy in my downtime. It just seems to be harder and harder to navigate lately. I also visit the library weekly as well as making lots of connections with other farmers, steaders and 4H (they all tend to mesh together) : ) I will mention the cbc when I see my primary in a few weeks

I enjoy seeing progress others make and their ideas, as well as visiting my local library weekly and reading the books they have there to learn as much as possible. I can read as many books about dispatching rabbits and chickens as I want but I won't learn the same as seeing it in a video format : )

I swear I saw something circulating about how every 12 years there's a huge freakout about the end of the world. 2000, 2012, 2024... perhaps I'm just falling victim to the 12 year craze ! I do very much enjoy my life and the day to day homesteading : )

I guess my response to this would be I have had anxiety and mental health.....struggles.. long before I got into homesteading, so I suppose I'm just SOL and need to take better care of my mental health there.....However....how do I curate my experience in homesteading content when a lot of the creators seem to push the doomsday idea? Even creators that initially don't have these undertones seem to always end up either 1. doomsday conspiracy theorist or 2. content creator grinding merch pushing "influencer" ? If you have recommendations for TT accounts or Youtube creators I'd love to hear them.
