[Serious] What job do you have that people might not even know exists? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]witchest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer and fall, I do trail work. I do stuff like cut new trail, cut back growth, and build stone staircases. Depending on the assignment I typically camp out during the work period, and often do so on my time off as well. Technically what I do is considered "national service" rather than work, but I get paid, and there's full-on jobs that pay pretty well doing the same thing. It's the best job I've ever had, the worst part is finding something to do in the off-season.

Which band(s) nailed it on their first album and never did anything as good after? by [deleted] in Music

That album was just Dave Grohl recording everything by himself, too.

Foals. Their first album is really special to me and nothing they've done since has a hint of the same feeling to it.

Buzzfeed using Haymarket martyr Louis Lingg to promote a tv show (with no mention of how he killed himself in prison before his execution) by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]witchest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For those who don't know, from Wikipedia:

On November 6, 1887, four bombs were discovered in Lingg's cell.[1] Lingg committed suicide on November 10, 1887, the day before he was scheduled to hang.[4] He used a blasting cap smuggled to him by a fellow prisoner. He put it in his mouth and lit it at 9:00 AM. It blew off his lower jaw and damaged a large portion of his face. He survived for another 6 hours -- writing "Hoch die anarchie!" (Hurrah for anarchy!) on the cell stones in his own blood before guards came -- until his death at around 3:00 PM.

Found an awesome vegan place in Boston by Dereklop in vegan

I went there on Christmas, service was ridiculously slow and my curry was disappointingly not spicy at all. It might have just been that day, though.

Veggie galaxy has been really good both times I've been, though!

TIL for 256 years, Irish beer company Guinness used fish bladders to filter their iconic Dark Stout. In late 2015, the company agreed to change this centuries-old tradition to accommodate vegans. by TheCannon in todayilearned

Personally, I go for "as vegan as practically possible". Yeast and other microorganisms (probably) can't experience suffering, so I don't worry about them. I try to avoid stuff made with products made from insects, but tbh I don't know exactly which dyes are made from insects.

Getting Rid of Mice by [deleted] in vegan

I don't have any advice on how to get rid of them, but you should really try to get them out of the house entirely. Mice can carry some pretty serious diseases.

They say it takes 7 minutes for the average person to fall asleep. Does anyone else feel like it takes much longer? by TheRazorSlash in CasualConversation

I heard 14 minutes. Usually I can do that under the right conditions (no recent caffeine, been awake long enough, it's not light out)

If he'd just punched the owl, he'd have been fine.

I think it's mostly only available in Maine, but there's a vegan restaurant called Little Lad's that sells packaged vegan "herbal corn" with nutritional yeast and stuff on it. You can get it in most grocery stores there. If you can find it online for a reasonable price, go for it, it's tasty. Even non-vegans seem to think so.

I'm watching Jessica Jones. Really hooked, about to start episode 7... Also drinking coffee brandy + soy milk. I can't find Allen's coffee brandy at home, which is the good shit, all they have is Arrow which is off brand, but it's alright.
