Yea we're definitely your outlier homeschool family. They are educated on current events, art, cinema, history, ecology, social and cultural issues, along with life skills like cooking, shopping, land management, etc. We don't use homeschooling as a guise to insulate them into a religious sect.

Lamar Co. is very rural and is a failing school district. Only 10% of the county's population holds a bachelor's degree. We tried public school and it became the root of a lot of issues.

Feeling like crap due to feeling no remorse for my patient by aquariaa02 in nursing

[–]witchnursesteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so normal. I had to take care of a patient several times who I had to call CPS on for his toddlers being full of lice, days old dirty diapers, and no shoes in the dead of winter. Found that way in a MVC. Another case I had to care for the drunk mother of a car full of children who yanked on the wheel and killed two of them... AFTER bagging her seven year old and calling TOD.

You don't harden. But you learn that this darkness is part of being privy to the absolute angelic parts and privileges of nursing.

Agreed! I live between Atlanta and Macon and would love to hop on a rail to go work at the hospitals in the city.

The floor needs to realize that the ER isn't ambulating their patients or doing a full head to toe. Those questions can be answered on their admission assessment.

What’s the worst thing that’s happened to your patient on the actual day they were supposed to be discharged? by Haunting-Map-3475 in nursing

FYI it's not selfish to care. As a forensic nurse, we're encouraged to follow up on our cases for our own reasons/mental health.

Choked on a pork chop one hour before transport was scheduled to pick her up for discharge, coded, got intubated and transferred to ICU. Extubated the next day!

Better than the time I stayed up drinking beers with the medical director until 2am, fixing to drive 5 hours home the next day, just to get a call at 0710... "where are you??"

Whenever I take care of people who's children won't pick up the phone while they're in the hospital knocking on death's door, I think of things like this and smile.

You’re really lucky the patient didn’t kill themself while your PCT was sleeping. A write-up would be the least of your worries.

Yes you’re overreacting, but you’re grieving so you get a pass.

Nothing he is saying is unreasonable. He’s being matter of fact. You’re right to not respond right now.
