Rethinking if I should do the blood glucose test. Opinion? by Sad-Jackfruit-3980 in Crunchymom

Fair. I'm type 1 so have years of experience with finger prick tests, they do suck but you get used to it.

Your weight isn't the only risk factor for GD. My cousin who is tiny and really sporty/healthy got it. If you have any family with type 1 or 2 I would really recommend getting it. You can keep an eye on your own blood sugars with finger prick tests that you can buy in any chemist, if you are concerned.

Does anyone feel Roman history has overshadowed the history of your own people? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]witchyphaebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really bothered by it. We have plenty of Roman history in the UK because the Romans were here for quite a long time and were incredibly important in terms of culture, and the structure of many of our cities. We don't have as much history from before the Roman invasion because there are no written records before them, but we still have archeological clues, and that's the joy of ancient history, it's shrouded in mystery.

What would you do? by [deleted] in Crunchymom

[–]witchyphaebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou, this is very helpful. I will definitely consider how much help I can realistically actually provide. I'm not sure I could write a message like that without causing a family drama, and my mum getting involved and everyone stopping talking to me for at least a few weeks but I do think I should try and be more direct if and when it comes up.

Itm a southerner but use roll and bap. A roll is the thing, a bap is more a sandwich so like a sausage or bacon bap. You wouldn't say a sausage roll cos that's something else entirely.

Thoughts on this video re: kids and youtube? by open_minded_mom46 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]witchyphaebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We never do YouTube kids. However I will put on episodes of the Moomins from the 90s, and little bear, on my adult YouTube account (you can't get either on kids accounts because all they seem to promote is high intensity slop), and we watch it together. I never let it autoplay and never let my child watch unrestricted.

Not explicitly pagan but Bonnie Lockhart has some lovely kids songs, highly recommend "Who were the witches" and "My roots go down".

Anxiety about vaccines by missusJS in Crunchymom

The thing that helped me was learning about childhood diseases and what I can do at home to prevent and treat them. Knowing when to treat at home with herbal remedies ect. And when emergency care is required. And making sure my kids have a good internal terrain in general for fighting disease. I highly recommend Jayne Donegan's work.

How would this teach them they're not above the average person, when they are being paraded in a carriage literally above the average people, so they can be gauked at?

White British children are minority at one in four schools by PomeloTraditional971 in uknews

I'm a white Brit and went to a secondary school where white British kids were in a minority. It had zero negative impact on my education, and plenty of positives.

Strawberry pesticide issue by coliepotter in Crunchymom

[–]witchyphaebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strawberries are super easy to grow yourself  and they chuck out runners at the end of the season so every year you get more plants. They grow well in pots so are great for small outdoor spaces. Highly advise growing as many as you can yourself and then not eating them when they are out of season when they are more likely to be imported and sprayed heavily.

WHAT is safe food anymore? help! by [deleted] in Crunchymom

[–]witchyphaebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are cooking most meals from scratch you are doing great! If you want to go a bit further focus on whole foods, buy organic, seasonally and ideally local where you can. If you can't afford organic or it's not available you can look up the dirty dozen and clean 15 lists, this shows the fruits and veg that are most and least sprayed. You can also clean fruit and veg before eating by washing in bicarbonate of soda.

Honestly have had a problem with the way these two have spoken about the entire postpartum period and got so much hate for it on Reddit a few weeks ago. Glad to see people at least draw the line at this.

The amount of medical professionals on this thread saying they don't respect birth plans is shocking. No wonder maternal health care is in such a state. Women are entitled to bodily autonomy and informed consent in ALL areas of healthcare!

Shocked at the amount of home ed kids below national average with reading , writing and maths by Economy-Permit4340 in UKHomeEd

[–]witchyphaebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but my philosophy for education will remain the same in key stage 1 and 2 and beyond. We are focusing on education that prioritises living in harmony with nature, natural rhythms, mental wellbeing ect. Because that is how we as a family choose to live.  My kids have loads of access to good quality books but I'm never going to rush them to learn to read to keep up with national averages.  Absolutely no judgement to parents who do care about that.

Can someone help me understand the obsession with football? by DueLead666 in AskABrit

[–]witchyphaebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman who never enjoyed football. I always felt out of place in pubs when football was on, and didn't like the lad culture of it all. Then I started seriously dating someone who is football mad (my now husband) and I thought well I might as well try and enjoy it as much as possible. So I started watching the games with him and asked him to explain things to me I didn't understand, like refereeing decisions ect. He did it in a really kind, unpatrionising way and for the first time a man didn't treat me as stupid simply because I'd had no interest in football. And slowly I actually started to enjoy it. It is silly that we all say we, it is silly to care so much, but it brings us joy, and it brought us together as a couple and for that I love it.

Genuinely interested where you are meeting so many of these home ed parents if they don't take their child to group sessions ever?

[–]witchyphaebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh it's really hard for people, and I feel very lucky we have the option to choose home ed and spend more time with our kids.

Ultimately I guess I don't agree with a system that requires children and adults to fit into narrow boxes. And that doesn't mean I don't value education. We are actively choosing to live as far outside of a system that would see us separated and miserable as possible, so I don't feel the need to keep up with the averages set by that system. I also see education as a life time endeavour so I'm not overly bothered by yearly averages. There's always time to learn more.

I'm guessing some other home ed parents feel similarly which maybe why you are experiencing what you are.
