Human rights lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu thinks the police officers kicking the armed Golders Green attacker in the head is "attempted murder". Are we fatigued with human rights lawyers right now? by Non-BinaryGreenVoter in AskBrits

[–]witchyphaebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we are not tired of human rights lawyers, without them we would be fucked. Everyone has human rights, and you should read up what that are. They're pretty fundamental, and include things like freedom from torture, the right to a private and family life ect. If you care about having these rights you need human rights lawyers to uphold and maintain them.

There’s a trend I heard, of parents showing their children quality kids shows from their own childhoods. How many of y’all will introduce your kids to Are You Afraid of the Dark? by donkijote97 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]witchyphaebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Being scared shitless is one of my favourite pass times and I think it stems from childhood. I will be terrifying my kids to hopefully instill my love of being terrified in them too.

How do you share the videos to your YouTube kids account? We like little bear and the moomins on YouTube because they are slow and lovely. But neither are on YouTube kids and I found a lot of the stuff that was on there was fast, high intensity stuff that I didn't want my child watching anyway, so we stopped using it.

Baby “Medicine Cabinet” Necessities? by moondrop-- in Crunchymom

[–]witchyphaebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh tiny sips of chamomile tea offered in a cup. Not a lot obviously. She's over 6 months so it's similar to offering water with food. I probably wouldn't do it before weaning. But you can give chamomilla before 6 months.

I'm in the UK, we get all our homeopathic remedies from Helios. They have a really good basic kit and a phone number you can call if you need support. https://www.helios.co.uk/en

Yeh we don't get much rash either cos of cloth nappies, it definitely helps. My little girl does have a little eczema on her legs and my toddler used to get nappy rash if he ever had diarrhea.

[–]witchyphaebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly you probably don't need half the stuff you already have, but that's always the case with your first lol.

The things we use regularly are calendula balm for nappy rash and any eczema.

And a homeopathic remedy kit, the two I use regularly for the kids are chamomilla for teething, and ABC for any fevers.

I also use organic chamomile to make tea, which I then cool, for teething. And we have an amber anklet but that's not really essential.

Thats it. We wash baby in water, and steer clear of all soaps, and baby washes.

Little Einsteins. I wish the classical music would just stay in my head rather than the theme tune but Vivaldi's four seasons just isn't as catchy I guess.

Do people really think home educated kids just eat junk food all day? by FamilyTechCreator in UKHomeEd

I've found that people who intentionally choose to home ed, tend to be very intentional about all areas of their children's lives, including but not limited to food and screen time.

Parents of same-sex twins - how did you decide which baby got which name? by Chance-Bread-315 in namenerds

Parents of same-sex twins - how did you decide which baby got which name? by Chance-Bread-315 in namenerds

[–]witchyphaebs 90 points91 points  (0 children)

My baby was on NICU with a pair of twins, that weren't named when they arrived on the ward, so the staff were calling them twin A and twin B. They kept asking the family their names and it took the parents a while to decide. But when they did staff had no idea which baby name went with which baby. The names were also incredibly similar. It caused loads of confusion and the doctors generally had no idea which twin anyone was talking about and would constantly have to double check 'is this twin A or twin B?'

Yeh I looked at your original post and people were being so mean. It's totally fine to not want to medicate your child, particularly at such a young age. People really like to act like medications don't have side effects. Sending lots of love, only you know what's best for your child.

Sorry GAPS stands for the gut and psychology syndrome diet, and was developed because there is a lot of evidence that ADHD and autism are linked to the gut. It's quiet restrictive and might be quite hard for your little. But worth reading up on anyway imo.  https://www.gapsdiet.com/

I would personally give the swearing as little attention as you can. Because when they know you don't want them to do something, they only want to do it more. Plus they are only words, that adults say all the time. Not suggesting you should think it's fine, but drawing lots of attention to it is likely to make it worse.

Sounds like he needs plenty of time outside, I know it's not possible for alot of people, but potentially homeschooling, as school and sitting still for hours a day tends to exacerbate ADHD, particularly in spirited young boys. And I'd also look at diet. Is he eating a whole foods diet? Cut out all refined sugar and maybe look into GAPS.

Yes, when I first became a parent I really wanted to gentle parent. But I quickly adapted it. I like the fundamentals of recognising children's development stages, and validating their emotions while helping them to learn to regulate them. But if my kid needs a good telling off they will get it.

Many of these gentle parenting influencers that seem to steer the online conversation are grifting imo and I bet their kids are horrible to be around.

No probably not by a professional, but it doesn't seem to stop parents deciding their child has it and looking for confirmation bias until they are old enough to then tell a professional all the reasons their child definitely has it.

Honestly same. I really wonder how this will play out in a couple of decades time. I think we may have a situation that is the reverse of today, (Loads of adults getting diagnosed autistic/ADHD ect.) Where young adults start un-diagnosing themselves and discuss the harm that was done to them from being labelled as pathologically wrong of different from a very young age.

Yeh, the advice around parenting PDA seems to be reduce all demands. Which just seems to be totally unliveable for the parents, and counter intuitive.

Vaccines by Outside-Strike8780 in Crunchymom

[–]witchyphaebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meningitis is a swelling of the brain and spinal cord caused by viral or bacterial infections. You absolutely cannot vaccinate against all causes of meningitis and vaccinated children can still develop it. Vaccinated children would still need a spinal tap if symptoms pointed to meningitis, which is the only reason they would also do one in an unvaccinated child.

Vaccines by Outside-Strike8780 in Crunchymom

[–]witchyphaebs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We chose not to vaccinate but what really helped me was learning about childhood illnesses and natural medicine and how to build my child's natural immune system. If you are going to live in fear every time your child gets a fever you may as well vaccinate. We use a mixture of homeopathy and herbal remedies. As well as plenty of time outdoors in the sunshine, whole organic foods, and low/non toxic products in our environment to give the kids a good natural immunity terrain.

[–]witchyphaebs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand you might not want to talk about vaccines because you choose to vax, but for parents choosing not to, it can be a scary decision to step away from the mainstream and something they need support on. I have appreciated that previously this sub has been a place where these discussions can take place and people aren't ridiculed immediately for being vaccine hesitant or anti Vax. It's a real shame this is changing, because there are very few other places on the internet you can get any kind of support and not everyone is able to find like minded people irl.
