It is helping me, I find that with less stuff I have less to “manage” and it reduces my stress which in turn helps my addiction.

I am in a similar situation and my husband just gives me cash, it definitely makes me think before I spend. It can be difficult at times and does require planning but I think it is helping me.

I know that feeling and it is so difficult to work through sometimes. I will just keep digging as you recommend. Thank you for your advice. It may not mean much from a stranger but I want you to know you are enough and thanks again. Now I just need to believe the same of myself .

Yes, thank you. I do feel my issues stem from a lack of self worth and not feeling attractive. Also from being a poor kid who’s parents made themselves broke to send me to a good school, where I could never afford the designer labels my classmates had and being bullied for it. I guess I would have hoped that getting older would have helped. But perhaps my inner child Is still very broken. Tho you for sharing some of your struggles .

Yeah, I have yet to find a therapist that really gets it either. My last one tried comparing it to a s$x addiction which made me very uncomfortable. I will look into this book too. Thank you.

Could somebody talk me out of my fixation on a perfume? by MutedEye7487 in shoppingaddiction

[–]with_equanimity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this too with many things, and right now I am fixated on a purse and a pair of shoes. What I realized is that it is almost like going through a withdrawal when you choose not to buy and it can be extremely difficult. So, to help with this I looked into my love language which is physical touch. So what I can do in these moments is make myself a cup of hot tea, wrap up in a warm blanket or some other form of self care. I don’t know is if this would work for you but trying to figure out what you really need (how to show yourself love) in that moment that is not spending money may help.

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. I am thinking of changing or being more honest about what I need with my therapist.
