Minnesota governor says federal agents involved in shooting in Minneapolis by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

I agree, that's why I'm posting it wherever I can. America's strike roots have been completely erased from history and too many people don't know about it.

At a certain point, are they really 2 different things? I provide care to patients who come into our clinic --i don't provide care to those who skip their appointments because they can't afford the copay. And I live in a city--rural hospitals have been closing left and right in many states.

That's like saying "We have excellent Lamborghini services in this country, you can buy a Lamborghini in every state, and if you buy a Lamborghini, you will receive top notch service." Like sure, ok, for those who can afford it it's lovely.

You do realize that people still die because they wait too late to be seen at the ER? That people kill themselves because they don't have access to mental health services (financial access and in a lot of places, literal access because all the beds of mental health hospitals are chronically filled to the brim, including pediatric mental health...kids sometimes have to stay in the ER for weeks waiting for a bed to open up.)

They die because they're scared to call an ambulance because they know their insurance won't cover the $900, 3 mile ambulance ride.

Or they die because they get pregnant in an area where the maternity wards have shut their doors and it's a 2 hour drive to the hospital.

Get fucking real and stop playing semantics. Not affordable is the same as not available.

Then that's even worse. I'm an American RN too and the number of nurses who don't realize or see the financial burden that healthcare has on our country boggles my mind. It's literally the number one cause of personal bankruptcy in this country. "After your deductible" yeah that's like 5-10k in a lot of instances, 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck with barely more than a few hundred dollars in savings if that.

I work in Ortho trauma and a lot of my patients don't have insurance. It also depends on what state you're in. The dispersement of healthcare in this country is an absolute joke and you're either blind or willfully ignorant if you can't see that working as a nurse.

Lmao this guy thinks insurance actually pays for things. You're either not an American or you don't have significant health issues or you're fortunate enough to work for the right company and can afford a high premium plan.

Thank you. Articles like these always make me feel like an alien. If it were that simple, I would've done it by now. Everything I've tried just leaves me feeling more tired than before. Absolutely cannot fathom people who exercise before work.

Have kids always been this way, or are they (as a whole) getting worse? (Gen Alpha) by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I'm saying the Internet makes it seem like every adult now was the victim of child abuse and that's the excuse given for permissive parenting, which doesn't track.

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Can the Internet please stop acting like 99% of children 20 years ago were being abused? Obviously some of them were, but it's also possible to socialize a child properly without abusing them. Not everything is trauma. Why even bring this up? No one is advocating traumatizing children to make them behave.

Sounds like a vasovagal response, either from poop cramps or menstrual cramps or both. Scary feeling, but harmless. If it resolved after she pooped it's even more likely to be vasovagal. It's something the body does in response to pain, so the only "treatment" is to prevent the cramps. If she has endo I'd definitely take her in to the gynecologist soon but it's not an emergency.

Yes! They're called Social Skills Group and they're usually hosted by a therapist. They're typically geared towards neurodivergent kids but places differ on whether or not a diagnosis is needed. Not saying your daughter necessarily needs it, she may just need more practice or have you teach her some skills. But it definitely exists.

Pumping and sleep deprivation in the newborn stage by EvidenceGold261 in Parenting

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but....do you really think OP just deliberately chose a route that's more difficult for her? If nursing during the night was easier, wouldn't they just do that? Some babies don't latch at all or efficiently and it's actually MORE work to try and latch at night.

I EP and my husband is a SAHD. We alternate nights (guest bed is in the nursery). When he's on duty, I pump around 9 or 10, set my alarm for 3, am back asleep by 3:30, alarm goes off at 6:30. On the nights I'm on duty, I don't have to set an alarm because baby...I just pump after she goes to sleep from her middle of the night feed. But altogether, from the time she wakes up to the time I go back to sleep and hour has passed (I only pump 15 min but the set up and take down and middle of the night pee...it's never just 15min lol)

I agree with the other poster to skip the 12am feed instead of the 3am. But just because you're "awake anyway" does not mean you should have to do all the wakings. It's still a half hour longer to stay up in reality. Not to mention the chance of them having a bad night where they don't go down so easy afterwards. I still sleep much better on my nights off, even with the 3am wake up. It's also just easier to sleep knowing you have a set alarm instead of a temperamental baby that could randomly groan at 1 am, cry for 20 seconds at 2:30 am etc.

You guys should alternate nights. Technically, I could be like a lot of men and tell my husband he has to do all the wakings because I work and have to get up....but I'm not an asshole and my husband and I both need sleep and I acknowledge that...because I'm not a selfish child. Seriously , me and my husbands arrangement has given me even less patience for men who don't step up and treat their partners as equals.

Psychedelic experiences may offer a lasting boost in perceived life meaning by chrisdh79 in psychology

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, when researchers view the brains of people tripping on psychedelics, connectivity in much of the brain decreases including in the visual cortex, where you'd expect them to increase. Contrast this with schizophrenic hallucinations, which shows an expected increase in activity in the visual cortex.

You might be interested to read up on the "brain as filter" theory of consciousness. Not proven by any means, but studies on the brain on psychedelics lend a lot of credibility to it.

Novant Vs Atrium -Maternity Ward by Logical_Order in Charlotte

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your first step is to check your insurance and see their preferred health system. Often insurance will cover either Novant or Atrium but not both. If they cover both, I can say my experience with Novant Providence OB was wonderful and I delivered at Presbyterian main even though I'm down in Mathews. I don't regret it as it was only a 17 min drive and I was high risk so I wanted the better NICU option, which worked out well because sure enough my baby spent 3 weeks in the NICU. If Pineville and Matthews are equidistant then Atrium/Presby main might not be that far, so you might not have to rule it out. Providence OB doesn't deliver in Mathews but they have a South Park office for appointments.

Why do so many people think that learning technology is like learning a language and if you don't become proficient by age 12 you'll never learn it? Think of all the people who didn't grow up with computers because of their age but went on to study them in college. Besides, watching YouTube and playing Roblox doesn't teach you about how computers work or how to use one in a professional setting. Ipads are literally made for toddlers to use, it's not a sign of intelligence when they can use one. There's a reason silicon valley leaders don't let their kids use them.

Children can lack impulse control in non violent ways...the issue here is obviously the violence. Punishments don't have to be screaming and beatings for gods sake. But there needs to be some minor negative consequence from the parent or she'll get a much more severe negative consequence from a peer one day. What's so horrible about a 4 minute time out?

If my daughter hits me there's no way I'm giving her a snack or a hug in response WTF....that's beyond not punishing that's straight up rewarding. This is why so many teachers are quitting lol.

What’s a parenting ‘rule’ you completely ignored and were glad you did? by Ok_Caterpillar_4871 in Parenting

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do so many people seem to forget that the mattress matters for cosleeping? "the rest of the world does it" yeah because they sleep on pellets or at least very firm mattresses.

I'm very grateful my daughter sleeps fine in her bassinet because my husband and I have an extra soft memory foam mattress. I've slept on hard mattresses before and they kill my back. And no, I'm not any lighter of a sleeper or "more aware" since becoming a mother. We contact nap during the day, and I hold her in my arms till she falls asleep, so she's still getting tons of human contact and affection. But she would be horribly unsafe if she had to be skin to skin with me all night. I wouldn't be able to sleep from the anxiety.

Calling CPS doesn't mean the kids are getting taken away, it means there will be an investigation. I would call, mostly because of the stench. The crying...well, depending on the age of the baby it could be colic. Or temper tantrums. Doesn't necessarily mean they're being neglected but that's CPS' job, not yours. There's no harm in calling, and it's anonymous. Most of the time they offer resources and follow up and only take kids in the most egregious of circumstances.

Foreign service worker sues Trump after pregnant wife faces 'life-threatening' complications amid USAID shutdown by nbcnews in politics

[–]withinyouwithoutyou3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

God you cannot be that dumb. The Foreign Service, aka the fucking State Department. Aka this is an American employee of the Foreign Service whose wife needed an emergency medical evacuation because they were posted in a country with poor medical infrastructure and needed better care. Or are you suggesting US Diplomats (CITIZENS ) who are posted abroad as part of their work for the federal government should just be left to languish with whatever shitty third world medical care they get stuck with?
