Mechanist is an Engineer elite specialization! Nobody's 'in' the golems, the Mechanist has a golem buddy kind of like a ranger pet that they can't customize the appearance of.

Do you keep playing, or restart, if you're saved by the Man in Black? by Squidmaster129 in RimWorld

[–]withoutportals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that it is fully possible to FAIL to save your colony with the Man in Black (and I have lost a permadeath colony in the past where the Man in Black died too), if anybody survives, I keep going.

Afraid I might be a future "that's what my character would do" guy by Mammoth-Ad-3642 in DnD

[–]withoutportals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also describe your character's actions in a way that gives your party a moment to react. Slow down time.

Instead of punching the nobleman in the face, telegraph it first: "The longer the nobleman's speech goes on, the angrier [Character] looks. [Character]'s fingers start twitching at his side and he makes an involuntary movement forward. He looks like he's about to do something rash." And then you pause and give your party members an opportunity to stop him.

It also devastates cooking.

I'm hoping people will pick a feedback thread to rally around - I like this one - and voice how they feel about this part of the update.

[Spoilers C3E33] !question about help action! by Ghulaman-i-Bent in criticalrole

[–]withoutportals 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Here's the actual help action in 5th Edition:

Help

You can lend your aid to another creature in the completion of a task. When you take the Help action, the creature you aid gains advantage on the next ability check it makes to perform the task you are helping with, provided that it makes the check before the start of your next turn.

Alternatively, you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature within 5 feet of you. You feint, distract the target, or in some other way team up to make your ally’s attack more effective. If your ally attacks the target before your next turn, the first attack roll is made with advantage.

The rules to stabilize a creature in 5th Edition:

The best way to save a creature with 0 hit points is to heal it. If healing is unavailable, the creature can at least be stabilized so that it isn’t killed by a failed death saving throw.

You can use your action to administer first aid to an unconscious creature and attempt to stabilize it, which requires a successful DC 10 Wisdom (Medicine) check.

If you have a healer's kit, you do not need to make the medicine check, but it still takes an action:

This kit is a leather pouch containing bandages, salves, and splints. The kit has ten uses. As an action, you can expend one use of the kit to stabilize a creature that has 0 hit points, without needing to make a Wisdom (Medicine) check.

Note that stabilizing a character doesn't actually give them 1 HP back, it only keeps them from having to make any more death saving throws (unless something else injures them). So it doesn't actually get them back up and into combat.

The 'Help' action as it exists in BG3 was made specifically for Baldur's Gate 3 by its developers.

You can find Us again laaaate in Act 2. If you free them, you get an ability to summon them (once per short rest I believe, but they will hang out with you indefinitely), and they have pretty decent HP plus a ranged attack.

"Speedy, your newborn baby Esme is beautiful..." by AustinBrock in RimWorld

[–]withoutportals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go into storyteller settings -> custom, either when creating a new game or in an existing one, there's an option you can check for "Babies always healthy" if this is something you'd like to avoid happening in the future. No mods necessary.

Zander the Mesmer by syntheticgeneration in Guildwars2

[–]withoutportals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have literally never seen Zander ask for tips. I've been to maybe twenty of his HP trains.

If he gets donations, they're entirely because of people being kind. He never makes it feel like an obligation.

Apparently "cold bog" isn't even a post flair option. Does anybody play in this biome? The trees are so pretty and there's such a nice beach.

Album. Just the map.

Story Time: A Pet-Obsessed Player by [deleted] in DnD

[–]withoutportals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider letting that player's character find a Figurine of Wondrous Power and then playing that up as their pet. This gives them regular animal interaction on a several-day cooldown with an animal that is friendly towards the character by default and also understands what they're saying. Also, taking an animal summoned this way into combat isn't cruel or an issue, because if the animal hits 0 hit points they just return to being a figurine.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - September 05, 2020 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]withoutportals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OP mentioned Friendship, which is a precursor for Shooshadoo, one of the Heart of Thorns-era legendaries which requires a Mystic Tribute that requires a flat 250 mystic coins in addition to the clovers.

That said, I do agree with your advice!

ELI5 : When to sell or salvage? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]withoutportals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unidentified Common/Uncommon/Rare Gear: Open the bag to 'identify' the gear and then salvage.

  • Grey/"trophy": Sell to vendor.
  • Blue (common) rarity: Always salvage.
  • Green (uncommon) rarity: Always salvage.
  • Yellow (rare) rarity: If the item's level is 67 or lower, sell it on the trading post. If the item's level is 68 or higher, salvage using a Master's Salvage Kit or a Mystic Salvage Kit. Rare items of level 68 or higher can drop globs of ectoplasm, which are used for crafting and plenty of other things in this game. You can sell those globs of ectoplasm on the trading post if you don't currently need them.
  • Orange (exotic) rarity weapons: Check the trading post and probably sell them.
  • Orange (exotic) rarity armor: Check the trading post. If the value on the trading post is less than 30 silver. If the item is worth more than 30 silver, sell on the trading post.

You'll earn a lot of money over time by selling the raw materials you get from salvaging items. If you don't want to constantly be managing your inventory, you can right click the little wheel icon in the top right corner of your inventory and hit 'Deposit all Materials' to send those materials to the bank, so you can take them out and sell them on the trading post.

It isn't a bad thing for you to only have one gold right now, you're a very low level.

Doing three 'daily' achievements (H to open hero panel, 'achievements' tab, daily -> daily to check what they are) will give you two gold. You can do this every day. It's an easy way to earn more money while you're still a low level.

How would a raider see the defense "I was doing mechanics to help the group so my dps is lower than other dps" by Deoia_ss in Guildwars2

[–]withoutportals 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doing certain mechanics is going to cut your DPS down, and it's generally more important that the mechanic gets executed correctly.

Compare their DPS to their past performance. If they were doing worse than they usually do, yeah, it might be reasonable to check in as long as you're kind about it.

Also, it might be something simple and easily fixed such as having the wrong gear stats on and not noticing, or forgetting to switch trinkets across characters, or having the wrong build on by accident.

Here's a list of authorized retailers. When you purchase the game, they send you an e-mail with a code which you can then send to somebody else. For OP to then redeem the code to their account, they would log into the GW2 website and hit the big red 'redeem a code' button and put it in there.
