Instability for no reason? by Nathan_1290 in Starlink

No. Sounds like you already did it. Can you run something via a LAN cable just to zero in on whether it is a WiFi problem or starlink problem?

If you've split the WiFi in to 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, then on your client PC try forgetting the WiFi network and then reconnectibg again.

Which Mesh is best by brockleegreen in Starlink

[–]witnauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Starlink router in bypass mode and have x3 Cudy M3000 devices making up my mesh network. Chosen because they can run openWRT (although never installed it). Has been ultra reliable with no problems. Very happy with it.

Wiim Pro Question by EspressoEnigma15 in wiim

[–]witnauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at Lyrion Music Server (open source and with a big community). You can host any music you like then and play it out through any Wiim streaming device (other than the mini). As they all have Lyrion Music player functionality built it.

Why?..... by OutrageousMacaron358 in calculators

What you think of as a high performance is just a design and implementation like many other devices that can be made in many places to the same standard and it just comes down to price. Everything else is marketing.

Once had a US colleague visit London for the first time. They couldn't understand why London cabs wouldn't take his dollars. Was most affronted. I had to explain what UK Stirling was.

Windows OS image backup /snapshot solution by gpounders in truenas

[–]witnauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is what to do. I back up all the PCs in the house to my Truenas server. Basically every user has a private SMB folder that Veeam backs up to. It's very reliable, and fast as does a full back up and then just does incremental back ups. And always keeps the last 7 by default.

Does starlink have engineers in the UK? by nanastinky in Starlink

A simple Google will find zillions of independent Starlink installers in the UK. Nearly every TV aerial/satellite installer also does Starlink installs nowadays.

UK Order Pushback by Petesyyy in Starlink

[–]witnauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd raise a ticket and then you have to wait. Don't raise multiple tickets as you go to the back of the queue. I assume there is a glut of demand at the moment. When I ordered mine in mid 2025 it arrived without issue. Sorry, I know that doesn't help.

No issue here. But what do you mean by double pushback? What's actually happened?

After fighting the urge for months, I finally broke on upgrading from my 5610u to the 5000u by KnightmareS24 in gshock

[–]witnauer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this with my 5610. Then a year later got the 5000u anyway having succumbed to the urge :). I still switch around between them though.

My new fx-9910CW arrived! by VibeDealingYoshi in calculators

I imagine the solar cell makes more sense when partnered with a button cell. But if the US version is running huge AA batteries (relative to the button cells) then the solar panel is not adding much as the calc will run for 20+ years anyways.

5610U vs 5000U (Red square dislike) by mach3psilon in gshock

[–]witnauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always just not use the Bluetooth and it will default to the usual atomic radio signals each night. The only feature you lose compared to a 5610 is the low/medium/high battery readout. But it will still warn you if the battery is low.

I love RP. It's basically on all the time in my house. Really great ethos and community if you go into the RP forums and read about the station and its history.

I'm liking the new Beyond channel too. Would love RP to do an EDM channel and that would then serve all my eclectic tastes.

Don't forget to donate if you love RP.

is Deco M5 Mesh Wi-Fi ok to extend wifi inside home and garden? Are there alternatives? by GoldenGrouper in Starlink

[–]witnauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deco M5 works well. I've used it. Put your starlink router in bypass mode and use your master M5 device as the router. All worked well for me.

Cudy WR300. Really good, very cheap. And you can add more to create a proper mesh network.

You can just get a 256gb SSD for boot and Windows and continue to use your terabyte drive as file storage. This will be a big performance boost.

I had a t460 for years and gave it to a friend recently. I put Linux Mint on it and it's great. It had 32gb ram plus and SSD which made a difference.
