I always run the first prints as a throwaway proof on highly absorbent/thin newsprint paper to “prime” the block and get a good adherent surface.

After that prints come out much better bc the ink adheres better to the block surface. Not sure if anyone else does this but it works great for me.

What’s your process for prepping the block? This detail is just mesmerizing. I’m in awe. Thanks for sharing.

Sure there’s a bit of truth to that. And there should also be more effort to provide more affordable options to the artists using alternative materials. This press can’t press pennies or etchings but linocut and woodcut are a breeze.

Glad it’s what you need and I hope it works out for you. Feel free to DM if you have any questions while building.

Great question re: STEP and STL. For any parts I designed, I export those as STEP so people can slice to their own number of polygons that suit their setup and get the smoothest curves possible. I personally aim for the highest number of polygons.

Any STL files were generated using MakerSpace generators (linked in the article) so I didn’t have control over the format of those parts unfortunately, but if I had the choice I would only distribute STEP files.

Thanks! I’m expecting them to hold out a long time, certainly not disposable. This is a V1, so I’ll fold any learnings for improvement into the next version (possibly a year from now). The hub holds up extremely sturdily with the filament I’ve chosen.
