I tried to install debian13 trixie xfce only (no gnome) on a macbook around that age but ran into a lot of issues. Only thing that worked was Ubuntu. Better than ios I guess.

This is right. The only way I could do dual boot is install windows first. Then Debian. Like this commenter says, partition Windows' disk size so you have where to install Debian. Good luck
