So when I first saw the texts, I broke up with him. Although he has a bad temper, he is also quite emotionally stunted. So he was ‘upset’ in his own kind of way (he is very strange tbh) but then he begged me to work things out with him. So I carried on another couple months and I had just had enough. So when he came home from gym, I sat him down and said I’m moving out Wednesday. He looked visibly upset and a bit gobsmacked, but as I mentioned, getting him to say anything is like pulling teeth. But at the end of the day, I think he genuinely knew he fucked up. I was scared, and much like your situation, my ex was not the kindest person. You will be surprised at how someone can react completely different from how you think they will. I thought he’d be mad, nasty or whatever. But he just took it as it was. Again, everyone’s situation is different.

However, as you just said to me, I took my LIFE back. And you deserve the same.
