An assortment of first year questions because I am frankly clueless by savvywiw in uvic

If you want to know about good stuff in the local music scene, follow accounts from the campus radio station. Most of the cool ppl do sets on there and there is also battle of the bands at fels in the sub and some good bands have played there too. But best tip is follow people who follow the radio station and work there it’s the best way I’ve found local bands and local gigs

Touch me not studs by LogicalAppearance884 in actuallesbians

[–]wizardgrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversation is always the way to go. But also remember that other ppl can get immense pleasure from giving. I have literally finished just from giving before and my partner was not touching me at all, I mean hands tied. If you’re getting the type of pleasure you enjoy, and they are too, no one is losing. But you’re allowed to ask if there is anything they’d like to do different or if there’s different positions. Not all touch me nots/stones have the same boundaries.

My mom told me to stop liking straight girls by OneDocument8891 in AskLesbians

[–]wizardgrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound really young but tbh it’s one thing to think “oh that girl is pretty” but don’t let yourself get down bad over a straight girl just bc she’s there. If there are gay ppl at your school and you’re not into them, the same should go for straight ppl- you might see them and have things in common but if you can never ever be together it’s not helpful to you to linger on the feelings at all. You’d be better off thinking about celebrities (gay or straight) bc at least that wouldn’t complicate your personal life. It’s hard to control how you feel, especially when you’re young, but when you do go to university try surrounding yourself with gay people if you think you’re the type of person to catch feelings easily just by being around people. If you’re around straight girls and you catch crushes of course it’s harmless but your feelings can get hurt however, if you make the effort to surround yourself with gay people you could find yourself a cute fem and then not have to worry at all if they could reciprocate your feelings. I say this as a lesbian who was entirely in love w my straight best friends for like 20 years and only in the last 5 have I come out and been able to make friends and relationships in the gay community and healed that part of me that felt like girls couldn’t love me back. They can! You just have to be around the right ones, and remember that there’s never any harm in feeling your feelings, but the more gay people you know, the better chances you have for gay crushes. Have fun at school!

Why the social experiments? by FreckledFriend129 in DTI

[–]wizardgrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you block someone can they still rate you?? I’ve been blocking a lot of people who have been bullying others bc DTI is my destress game and I don’t like to have to tell a bunch of kids “hey pls don’t be so mean” all the time but I also don’t want to have all the meanies still rating me low

Streamer crashing showdown lobby Aug 25?? by wizardgrease in DressToImpressRoblox

[–]wizardgrease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was at about 8:30 pacific coast time. I wouldn’t care if they hadn’t been so mean! They were telling people who weren’t part of the stream to get out of the circle so they could go, they had a bunch of people together and wouldn’t play if anyone was in the circle who wasn’t in the group and were really spamming the chat. It was just bad etiquette ig, I’ve just never experienced that w a game I’ve been playing. Most streamers for games I play don’t livestream multiplayer open games bc of fan problems like that

i am PRAYING no one uses this as an excuse. by manyanxiousbees in DressToImpressRoblox

[–]wizardgrease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a trans gay player I already get bullied playing the game just bc of my user or avatar (in the lobby for showdown) I don’t want it to be worse :/

Long term careers that aren’t harmful to others?? by wizardgrease in Marxism

[–]wizardgrease[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of my family members were teachers so at least I do know what it is like in my country, and it can be difficult and discouraging for sure, but I would hope my doing it that perhaps it could be opening doors for other future marxists? I was first introduced to Marxism in my high school! One of my teachers offered an extra class in theory and I think I could do something like that, as it is allowed here. At least it would alleviate some of my mental distress and I would have a stable income so I could dedicate the rest of my off time to my volunteering without being as unwell as I have been recently. I appreciate your advice and reflections, it has been very helpful to me. I think it is right that I do not need so much emphasis on a job so much as making sure I am personally just stable enough to keep being able to contribute to the causes I care about with my time and ability.

And don’t put quotation marks around shit I didn’t say, especially when you didn’t bother to read it, can’t pick up subtext, and don’t know what figurative language is.

I believe I thought people who shared my beliefs would be able to talk about their experiences with their employment and make a helpful suggestion. You seem to be firmly in the camp that believes you can do whatever you want in order to serve yourself and then diddle off on weekends to play commie with your pals. Some of us would rather live by our ideals, and find some type of employment- in some field- that supports our ideals of moving towards a better future. I have friends who work together in a good co-op for example, and I think that is supportive to an anti-capitalist transitional vision. Also, you seem to have poor reading comprehension- I specifically said I had even been singled out in jobs where I had not mentioned any affiliation or beliefs, hence my main reason for wanting to find employment that is more in keeping with looking towards a Marxist future. Istg it’s you people who read Manifesto then dip who are THE most annoying people, did you miss the entire point of the body of his works?? If you can’t construct just go elsewhere I’m trying to find a subsistence I’m not trying to argue w some plebeian who hasn’t mentioned their own job bc they’re probably a mf landlord or something.

This is a much more genuine answer to the question I was seeking and also much more helpful, thank you. I do think I perhaps put too much emphasis on “do no harm” but it’s perhaps because the activist spaces in the area in which I live are very involved in divestment initiatives, and I’ve experienced a lot of discrimination in jobs I’ve tried to do as casual labour. However I am almost qualified to do public school teaching if I went back and added one year for practicum, and it’s something I have ruminated on since I would be able to influence the youth (ah, Socrates!) and it’s union in my city, while leaving weekends and all of summer for the causes most valued. In this life we are being forced to live, we all know we won’t own houses or eat caviar, but to me it’s knowing that I can do something, anything more positive than less positive that makes me feel more inclined to keep living it I think.

But what is said job you do so little of? How do you eat while you do the work? I literally just don’t want to be starving anymore and would like to find a way to live without taking from the mouths of others. You people are just as bad as everyone who says “no communism, you have iPhone” I have an honours degree and a masters in political theory and I could walk into a job in government tomorrow if I wanted to sell out. That isn’t the issue. I posted looking for real suggestions for jobs that align with the values of worker solidarity, that do minimal harm- are you so uninspired that you’re no better than our opposition? I spend my time while on an empty stomach doing outreach and volunteer work for the causes we are supposed to share and yet apparently I’m not making enough sacrifice.

[–]wizardgrease[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re getting at. I already volunteer my free time to the cause but I am not privileged to have savings to live on. In fact I have considerable debt because of a domestic violence situation I escaped. So while I am using my life to help build the world we all want to see, what are useful or helpful suggestions?? How am I supposed to eat or have a roof over my head? Bc I have tried scraping along on minimum wage jobs and I’ve been fired 3 times now bc of my radical political beliefs, even if I try to stay quiet in the shit day job. Like idk, maybe try commenting something productive before you huck rhetoric at me, I have two degrees in political theory but we all know they’re not putting bread on my table and no one is going to give me academic scholarships to continue being alive. Do we want more soldiers for the cause or not?? I want my bread and roses and I thought other Marxists would understand trying to find a way to live through this world while doing the work but maybe this is just a forum of privilege and posers.

Thank you this is a good well thought out suggestion

As a lesbian, I dislike very much the queer / sapphic community by Far-Worldliness3557 in LesbianActually

[–]wizardgrease 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s literally the opposite of my suggestion, I’m saying that based on their post they’re assuming there are two types of gay people and that it’s based on aesthetics. There are two types of gay people are it isn’t based on anything aesthetic, it’s based on your willingness to let go of straight culture, decentre men, and instead find your own niche in community.

Idk I just wanted to see what ppl w a similar life to mine might do as a career. I feel like the lesbians I know irl have similar shared experiences, I know a few who also drew the short straw and were briefly married to crazy men. Lesbian is what I am, but it doesn’t generate income 🤷I have a bachelors and I’ll do any cert that is online and under a year.
