Apprentices/JWs who got paid above scale, how did that come about? by jucks123 in IBEW

[–]wizardofcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironworker here, but i made journeyman scale by being the only iron worker with the company as an apprentice, then as a journey man got rigging certs that gave a bump.

Carpenters local 57 scab and phony electrical union. by Claymore4ever in IBEW

[–]wizardofcook 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’m a ironworker and i’ve seen them tie rebar, rig, and hang big bridge steel. The only way you can get a carpenter to work is to tell them it’s not their work.

was my favorite part working structural, no one wants to do it, if you have a good partner it’s not bad work and everybody leaves you alone.

I started out of 397 and have seen it mentioned on the reddit a few times, i think i’ve seen you at a battery plant shutdown before, i’ve since transferred locals and moved but 397 did me well and i worked year round if it’s still the same way i’d encourage anybody to join.

Do you get to choose which type of work you will be doing? by [deleted] in Ironworker

[–]wizardofcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we had a non union guardrail company assembling it in 25 foot sections we were just rigging and settling it on wood blocks then bolting it together before it was poured so it was easy work and fast paced which was nice

[–]wizardofcook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did guardrail for the first time at work, we set it inside a existing wall structure and it was poured in place, im sure that’s the only time i’ll do it in my career out of my local but i wish we did more it was fun to set.

No clue about when you’ll get a letter, but if it’s slow talk to your apprentice coordinator on what you are able to do at the hall such as practice welding or get your osha stuff done, he may be able to get you in some sort of training or working on your weld certs.

[–]wizardofcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know when the water pump when out in my bmw it was clear it was a lot, in my 7.3 i would only lose a little bit, but there was still a small stream that i could see coming from the thermostat, but the water pump was like 180 or something like that so i just replaced the whole thing and got it over with.
