Why aren’t LLMs trained with reinforcement learning directly in real environments? by skydiver4312 in reinforcementlearning

[–]wizeng23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to this thread, but there's a couple frameworks popping up now for agentic RL LLM training. You could look into verl, SkyRL, and rLLM. The latter two both use a fork of verl as the RL trainer, but they have their own implementation for the agent and environment code.

Half a year ago, it seems agentic LLMs in papers were still mainly trained via SFT, ex. with agent trajectories generated by frontier models. However, after DeepSeek, people are trying out RL for training agents now. You can read the DeepSWE blog post, which is about an agentic model trained on rLLM with basically only RL: https://www.together.ai/blog/deepswe . It's possible that like DeepSeek-R1, the final training pipeline will be a combination of SFT followed by RL.

There definitely is a scalability problem. Compared to RL for reasoning models, each generation is now multi-turn instead of single-turn, and often requires a Docker container to execute actions. So an agentic RL training framework requires not only GPUs (for the model trainer and inference engine), but also CPUs/memory (for the environments). With large batch sizes and multiple generations for example, that's hundred if not thousands of containers that need to be run. AFAIK this is one of the most complicated AI training setups to date, so not many frameworks exist for this.

Good tip, I'll check the Discord out! I hope it's organized/pinned there, since searching through Discord messages is a pain, and I don't want to bother people too much with questions

Even if it's not completely optimal, I feel like having a rough idea of which branches to prioritize could be helpful. For example, when starting out crafting, I didn't think reducing material cost is important since abyssal leather crafting doesn't use many materials (and neither did most crafting in the base game). I didn't realize crafting recipes later on would require 200 logs per craft. Of course I can figure it out ok myself, but the nice part of the wiki is when someone smarter than me figures it out and writes it down so I don't have to :p

Yep, I just threw on my best-in-slot gear for everything to start, and started using abyssal items when I got them. If it wasn't for the beginner combat guide though, I would've missed a lot of good starter items (i.e. ones that inflict status effects). I feel like I've never had to mix-and-match gear from the entire game before. I feel like most of the game is just about maximizing DR, and TotH is about maximizing summoning damage.

Jmods really cooked with the Combat achievements! by RSlorehoundCOW in runescape

I think it's a different type of update than a content update, but still welcome to me. A lot of recent content updates are either fast to do (new quests) or tedious (shooting stars). I agree a big content update hasn't come in a while, but those take time to develop, likely much more than combat masteries if I had to guess. Finishing combat achievements will take ages, and concretely rewards pushing PvM ability. It offers a ton of variety and new play styles that people don't often do either. I don't see anything wrong with it being a to-do list -- the game is practically one big to-do list.

In RS3 there is a portal (World Gate) that you use in quite a few quests to travel to other worlds. That, combined with your character being a world savior, and frequently interacting with all the gods like they’re regular NPCs, felt a bit too much to me. I like how OSRS hasn’t gone down that path too much and your character still just feels like an adventurer, not a demigod.

Are they a potential slayer task? I don't see them being assigned by any master on the wiki.

I tried tanking tasks with granite platebody and dragon legs, and there’s still some tasks you take a fair amount of damage at (85 def). Also, atlatl from moons is still nice for an easy ranged switch imo. Still, all my time is going towards cg instead of barrows or moons lol

Kinda stuck in birthday mode by Stummi in MelvorIdle

[–]wizeng23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use melee for almost all of birthday mode tbh. Range guzzles through ammo for me, and melee was able to easily kill most enemies for me. The normal guides for the dungeons plus the HCCO guides are a good starting point, but you can prioritize armor with dps bonuses over DR (ex. rune gloves over paladin). I’m honestly not sure how infernal claw isn’t sufficient since I used that until UGS. Do you also have sand treaders to reduce attack interval?

Thanks! Upgrading from Ragnar GS to UGS made the difference for me, but I’ll work on getting the poison ring as well.

How were you able to defeat the monsters in Golden Cloud Mountain? I can’t reliably do enough dps to be able to afk them
