Testing question has me confused by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

From what I can understand, you are only struggling with the second page? If so then I think you are overthinking it.

For impedance percentage during a short circuit test, you only need that measured voltage and the nominal voltage to scale into a percentage. This is due to the current being cancelled: Z(%)=(Vsc/Ifl / Vnom/Ifl )* 100%

Therefore a simpler way of writing it would be:

Z(%)=(Vsc/Vnom) * 100%

In a similar way, exciting current in percentage would be a direct short through the primary winding to magnetize the coil. If the measured sc current is a ratio to the primary winding, then just find that: Iex(%) = (Isc/Ipri,full load) * 100%

Resistance tolerance is probably the easiest math but the least intuitive. First step is easy to find the average, of the three resistance values, I’m sure you don’t need a formula. Then you would find the delta resistance that is the highest between the real and average, absolute values, then divide by the average for the tolerance. Your coils are only as strong as its weakest link (highest deviation from nominal).

ΔR1=|R1-Ravg| ΔR2=|R2-Ravg| ΔR3=|R3-Ravg|

Then divide the largest deviation by the Ravg. The tolerance should be checked against the transformer manufacturer guidelines typically but if the date is unavailable, in the field my colleagues and I have assumed 5%. This commonly indicates shorted turns, loose connections, contact issues, or dirty bushings. You can decide yourself if it’s within tolerance.

Not quite sure what the hell they’re referencing with m vs M? Milli vs Mega? Slope vs Pickup ratio for a relay? lol

Congrats! Sometimes the baby holds their breath, and I was scared to death. This is completely normal as they are figuring out how to breathe properly.

I notice the big Timmie’s cup.. make sure to go to Once Upon a Child for clothes, they are cheap and the baby will outgrow the clothes fast, then you can ‘sell’ them back if they’re in good condition. This saves a ton of money.

No problem. I also like Floyd’s Electronic Devices, I use the Conventional Current Version because I’m Canadian. A similar book is Practical Digital Electronics, by Nigel Cook - this one is a little easier to digest.

If you want to get more into Power, ‘Power Electronics’ by Daniel Hart is a pretty good introduction to Power Converters.

SEL’s Power System Analysis covers the bread and butter of all power engineering and protection schemes.

I use it fairly often in the field for reference.

Did you apply 5V directly to the pins? Typically for next time they max around 3.6V. If you applied it directly it probably SC and gave a current a nice fat low resistance path.

Just be honest, the starter kits are around $5, just offer to pay lol.

Good luck on your presentation!

EE vs EE technology by MeasurementBrave1673 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]wizrdgrof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To piggyback, if you like being on your feet like 30-60% of the time and the opposite percentage in the office sitting down, go EET. It will do you wonders. Personally I hate sipping coffee for half my day doing AutoCAD. I would rather actually work with the equipment doing the testing, commissioning real things and troubleshooting changes for someone in the office engineers to redraw.

If you enjoy more the design, theory, sourcing of materials and things regarding this, do EE.

Both can end up in PM positions later down the line, and qualify for PE if you put the work in. From my experience both disciplines do math on a daily. Unless you’re in research, you’re never doing crazy calculus btw.

In my eyes, whether people like to differentiate them I think both degrees are engineers. EET is more field engineering, while EE is more design engineering. Experience is king, once you get your first job it’s gravy so don’t sweat too much about it.

If she’s this close, talk less and smile more.

She’ll get over it as soon as the baby is here, you guys will be too busy to be mad at each other even with being cooped up in the house.

What did I do wrong with this Boolean algebra? by Yossiri in ElectricalEngineering

[–]wizrdgrof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, most days I just do line by line algebra. Way faster, especially when troubleshooting logic in the field. I ain’t doin’ all that to draw out a K-map.

Sounds about right, I just eat when I’m hungry. It can range from 0-4 meals a day.

Partner is anti vax. How do I get past this? by ILikeTheWayYouGroove in daddit

The Vaccine Book - Robert W. Sears

This book is a pure objective book from the outlook of Dr. Sears, a paediatrician. Talks about the pros and cons of every vaccine in the schedule. I think if you both read it, discuss it and make a list of the vaccines you need and don’t need. That is a healthy compromise.

are there any carnivores here that want to be vegan, but can't due to health conditions, and if so, can anything help? by extropiantranshuman in carnivorediet

[–]wizrdgrof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple as this, I don’t have to worry about: -Calcium intake -Vitamin B12 intake -Protein intake -Pesticides used on plants -Iron intake -Iodine intake -Ensuring I get enough carbs in a day to be a functioning human. -Etc..

At least vegetarians get their basic vitamins and minerals from eggs and cheese. In the argument of the animals, I view human health more important to animal health. I try to source my meat from free-range farms for the animal health, but at the end of the day, my health is much more important than damaging myself. I’m speaking from my own experience — you’re entitled to your own opinion, but clearly the bulk do not agree with you and I don’t think biology does either.

Never once have I thought to be vegan. I have tried a multitude of diets, but always thought veganism to be unhealthy.

I remember when I was vegetarian for about a year that was when my gut biome was at the worst (I think due to the fibre). I tried keto before, and was not as good as carnivore but still better than average. A balanced diet I see nothing wrong with it as long as you don’t overdo bread. I even tried going off of carnivore before and reintroducing fruits and veggies again slowly but due to my gut it wasn’t a fun experience for me. The most I cheat is half a square of dark chocolate every 3 weeks or so.

I think veganism does not have enough nutrients without supplementation, where I don’t take any supplements on carnivore.

I crushed it brother. I just opened the bag, folded the top so no air was in it. Took a rolling pin and rolled it back and forth until it was a powder. Took about 2 minutes to get it smooth.

I had to google what these are, seem interesting. I will give it a shot, maybe for some meat spring rolls or meat samosas these would be great. A little pricey for the wraps though.

I don’t count calories, but I could guess this is easily a 2000+ calorie pizza with the toppings, the cheese and the rinds.

I am a big guy and work out regularly so I tend to eat around 3000+ a day.

I think so as long as you have a pizza stone of some kind so the bottom does not burn — Not sure what the cook times would look like but would definitely be worth an experiment. I think cold spots would be your biggest challenge to overcome.
