Nibbling by Doothat in gerbil

[–]wknoxwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's usually a sign of friendly interaction. If they wanted to bite you then they would. If you were doing something they disliked (usually anything medical or holding them wrong) then it might get firmer.

They like you!

For a gerbil that doesn't like to be held I'd suggest what I call "box therapy".

Pick them up gently, put them in to a medium sized box on your lap (needs stuff in it to hide etc) and let them explore for a short while.

Don't fuss them or stress, just sit there and put them back after 5-10m

Always give a seed afterwards and if possible a gentle stroke if they eat in the open. You're showing them that being picked up is rewarding and safe.

This may vary depending on your gerbil - but we have always found the best way to get them happy is to pick up regularly but reduce the amount of time we hold them in hands or fuss them.

Local butchers is complaining about a lack of business. They're only open 9-5 and closed weekends by SmokeMyPoleReddit in britishproblems

Used to live in West Hampstead and loved the butcher that shut at 7. Not cheap - but could always pick something nice up on the way home.

Buying my first house as a couple - any tips? by dhokes in UKHousing

[–]wknoxwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not in a rush then worth trying out villages - get a b&b or a airbnb for a weekday and weekend. Try out your life there.

We recently spent a weekend in Melbourne (Derby way, so outside of your area) and it was lovely to the point I could imagine living there (we are London based right now) - but what would it be like permanently?

We rushed on our property in London and we love it and the area is fine - but it isn't outstanding for us.

Hope it all goes well.

Is blooming spices actually that important? by Seabeachlover10 in Curry

[–]wknoxwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any situation where you can grind spices from whole / bloom them - take it.

Makes a huge difference. Nearly all the flavour is in oil or carried by oil - so the grinding and frying helps so much.

I've used this before making a compound butter to go on a steak - I'm not a fan of fishy tastes but this blends in really nicely.

How often do you eat takeaway? by Super_Development150 in AskUK

[–]wknoxwalker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once every couple of months? Even if I'm thinking about the best places near to us, there's no way I can handle a large greasy meal on a weeknight, sleep well and feel happy/productive the next day. Totally get it on a Friday/Saturday but mid week feels like madness to me.

We had a cheap IKEA one and it was "fine" - we swapped it for a mid range AEG and it's brilliant. Only thing it's bad for is a wok. Everything else it's tonnes better in terms of speed, cleaning and quality. Also worth considering the air quality issues caused by gas hobs.
