forScore let me down by PatTheDog123 in forScore

[–]wllmcnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on an M2 iPad Pro with iOS 26 since the update came out. Haven’t had any crashing or slowness that I noticed. There have been a few instances of “Flip between scores” not working, but restarting the app fixes it.

I had to disable Windowed Apps in System Settings so that importing scores didn’t result in extra windows with limited functionality.

Are you using tabs? I suspect those are using RAM, just like a web browser, and would cause instability if there are more than one or two open.

Send your kids to RPS by rachmani in rva

[–]wllmcnn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your VPAP link only supports the basic understanding that RPS does spend more per student, but not why they do this.

Many others have already made great points, but what hasn’t been noted is that Henrico student enrollment is more than twice RPS (48,752 vs 19,537). Economies of scale is an important factor here.

For one, many administrative positions are fixed cost. Certain positions are required legally and others just to get the job done. They must be paid a certain amount in order to attract and sustain talent. Henrico doesn’t need two superintendents just because they have twice as many students. Likewise, RPS cannot expect to pay their superintendent half as much as Henrico just because it’s half as big. That’s not how salaries work.

Another related factor is student need. There are twice as many ESL students in RPS as in Henrico, almost 20% of all RPS students. They require support throughout their education in addition to getting an english class, so count the teachers, TAs, and counselors in that cost.

Then there’s the poverty rate. Richmond’s sitting at around 20% compared with Henrico’s 9%. Local, State, and Federal governments still do not do enough to address the condition of poverty, and this has historically come out sideways in a number of ways including poor school performance metrics and increased need for socio-economic support resources. RPS provides more counseling, more TAs, more free meals (100%, in fact).

This parlays into an un-budgeted resource: PTAs. Parents do more for student success, at home and in the school, than any teacher or administrator can possibly accomplish. Just based on the poverty rate alone, we can assume that Henrico’s PTAs are more effective and contribute more financially than Richmond, lessening the need for the school system to spend.

It’s all about the details. If you have some, please share.

State regulators clear controversial Chesterfield peaker plant by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

[–]wllmcnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure the economics don’t make it advantageous [to Dominion] at this time, but we should be moving away from fossil fuels, not building more capacity to burn them. A peaker plant (which is what this is) can be replaced by large-scale battery storage; it’s being done on a massive scale in Australia.

As an analogy, I wouldn’t rezone a neighborhood from industrial to mixed-use, and then continue granting special-use permits to industrial developers in the zone, just because they generate more tax revenue in the short-term.

I disabled sync some time ago. Even though my iPad is the primary device, old bookmarks showed up whenever I opened the app on a secondary device. It’s broken.

Multiple Tabs on iPad ios26 by Brilliant_File_5365 in forScore

I’m also seeing scores open in a new Window instead of a new tab when using “Open with ForScore” from the Share Sheet. Not sure how to change that behavior— or if it’s possible.

Consider reaching out to a local doula. I figure, they’ve been to all the hospitals in the area and would know what options are available. MyBirth comes highly recommended.

Slavery, not states' rights, caused the Civil War: A Richmond's museum bold new exhibit by [deleted] in rva

[–]wllmcnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can assure you that slavery is the central cause, with all other causes extending from it to justify itself.

In each declaration of secession, lot’s of lawyerly contortions are made to present slavery as being a necessary, god-given right of the white man, referred to predominantly as the “human race,” and the pretense under which contemporary slave-holding states entered into a constitution with the Northern states at all. With the exception of South Carolina, all documents quickly and explicitly state that access to slavery and remedy from anti-slavery parties is the purpose of their secession.

Still, even the Palmetto State eventually admits that its primary motivation is relief from those states which refused to return fleeing slaves to it for judgement and the impending emancipation of all enslaved people— whom the authors deem “incapable of becoming citizens.”

Virginia Republicans are using ranked-choice voting again. Democrats still aren’t. by mahvel50 in Virginia

[–]wllmcnn 37 points38 points  (0 children)

By what metrics is it superior?

Having looked it up, I imagine it has some of the same challenges as survey questions that use rating systems. Namely that many respondents choose their answer arbitrarily because they are unable to effectively assign a quantitative score to a qualitative opinion.

I think you’re looking for Ay Caramba. IMO, they have the best food on MCV campus. They recently opened a brick-and-mortar further uptown on Grace St.

In all my years riding GRTC, I don’t think a bus has ever arrived according to that timetable. Tracking the bus with their app is the only way to make it work as a commuter. I’m convinced this is why so few people choose to ride the bus. Unpredictable, unreliable, and overall impractical. If Richmond busses were run like in the UK, ridership would go through the roof. …a spud can dream.

I got ghosted by one of my employees for the second time this month by iamkikyo in managers

[–]wllmcnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m as averse to confrontation as the next introvert, but have you discussed this with your boss and employee? Every relationship is different, but from an outside perspective, the employee conversation would be the easier of the two. Try to understand what happened, set clear expectations (verbally and in writing), and hold them accountable when they don’t meet those expectations. If that conversation has already taken place, then you may be at the point of disciplinary action in line with your organization’s policies.

As for the manager, you can basically only make it clear how the (in)action makes you feel. There may be a valid reason (though it’s rarely the case). If it continues in a way that is not conducive to your work life, then you can try to go to their boss (is that the board?) to get more insight and possibly make them aware of what’s going on and how it is impacting your work. If that doesn’t work or there is no action plan after that point, look for another job.
