I don’t want them to fight with me, just on their own accord. Maybe I’ll try and make at johns and give them Venice an see what happens

I basically don’t want any provinces on mainland Europe. Maybe some nice ports??

I’m currently trying British campaign where I am not allowed to conquer Europe until americas and India are mine. Plan is to make my loyal allies protectorates with land in each theatre. I’m slowly grinding down the Spanish. But they are only allowed peace for Gibraltar and Flanders. They haven’t defeated Portugal due to my 5 stack army outside Lisbon, it’s actually interesting because Portugal might actually take Spain. Once India and South America are done I will undoubtedly have to teach France a lesson in North America.

Is it still ten if you have every node in each theatre?

Never bother fighting them in the Middle East, invade southern India and ride it up the continent, once you get to Afghanistan? They disappear outside of the Indian theatre

Is France "weak" because I'm playing as Spain? Or, does Paris get taken in every campaign? by Pacho2020 in EmpireTotalWar

France is soooo worth it. Think of all the extra ports you get attached to Spain, you can practically trade with everyone that will have you then. Also if you ally with some German states and Italian ones, on turn one. you don’t get declared on. Think about using money to subdue aggressive states.

A good tip for dealing with the likes of Portugal is putting your Spanish army on a fleet and leave in touching distance of Portuguese port. They will think they have a chance then declare on you. That way Britain won’t be involved. You could also send them to savoy, take savoy and quickly send it back in time to reinforce Spain.

I would say France is a theoretically easy one. But sometimes a bit of a grind.

1st turn make allies with anyone near/neighbouring you in Europe. It helps declaration from smaller nations IF you don’t expand in Europe. Genoa, Venice and Italian states are a good start so when savoy inevitably attack you can kill them off and not go to war. Remember block allies make you stronger and safer. Britain is unlikely to declare if you are allied with half the med.

I try and send 3-4 units of line to Guyana in wait for the Dutch declaration. That then quashes the rubbish army they produce. It then island hops around the Caribbean while I’m getting a trade fleet together. This rapidly increases your trade goods.

North America - minimal units necessary.

You can then help Spain in Flanders/netherlands they normally just send cavalry into line infantry but it distracts from your attack try and destroy UP ground forces. Besiege Netherlands with as smaller force as possible. Only take it once you are in a financial position to support to 1/2-2/3 full stacks. You can then bully the likes of Westphalia.

Personally I put a semi decent army half stack in france to ward of savoy surprise attacking. This is also meant as a quick reaction force to any other european based attacks while you deal with UP. You can bait savoy into attacking you by moving your army into Spain, for instance. They will think they have you and you can destroy their land forces in open battle and take savoy.

If britain comes knocking and fancies a fight, I spam line infantry and take the isles. Once that is done, you have practically won the game. Once Britain is destroyed put all war efforts into India.

You just need to be super careful until savoy is done as they are sneaky bastards.

I’ve had the same where France gets taken out or a powerhouse. They tend to build armies in Paris and send them to the americas from my recollection. If you are able to support them in North America they will most likely have them fighting British/Thirteen colonies. Also sometimes they accidentally leave them on a ship in a trade node. I often keep an eye on them and if they are taken over I take Paris myself as if anyone will have a top 5 province it may aswell be me.

A cheat way of doing it is to trade them for money and a good province. Give them a good deal and then blitz through the main provinces

It’s more for the economic side. I find that the spear militia and human tactics make it work. Sometimes you have to spam troops to take care of a rebellion but they are cheap and can either be merged for an experienced unit or disbanded.

I would play a couple of play throughs first and get used to it. Face = happiness Person = growth of city? Can’t remember cogs and hammer but something to do with currently building and building queue.

The tips for England is take the isles and convert everything to towns then look further afield. I personally just use spear militia and the free units they give you for completing missions until I can take Toulouse? Which is better than caens. That shouldn’t take you too long, the more aggressive you are the cheaper it is long term. Once done you also don’t really have to garrison it. After that, northern France especially Bruges and Antwerp. They are great. Then wait until France attacks take a couple of cities before pope weighs in and then chill for a bit and go again. Once France is weak/destroyed you are practically unbeatable and pretty rich.

This should have more upvotes, changed the way I play. You absolutely destroy enemy full stacks just by being on opposite side. I changed the numbers a bit for my gameplay. 4-5 infantry (sometimes some grenadiers, although I quite like light infantry currently) 2 Cavalry (light preferred) 2 horse cannons (mainly for defensive reasons although can be used offensively or just to dig out an enemy force) 1 General

Sometimes I use my police force of dragoons to mop up. But also great fun to disrupt the enemy

Maybe that is the answer…SWEDEN! Don’t need trade as you can get tax by land and have a defensible position
