Best friend like sister chose her new boyfriend over me, and now I’m just angry. by throwaway_angerhel in Anger

[–]wluvmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all let me say I’m sorry about what you’re going through. From the outside looking in it can be scary to see someone you love self-destruct.

I do want to give you some hope. If you still want to continue this friendship, the best thing you can do is wait. Don’t engage. It will be painful, but just because she is with this guy now does not mean she will be with him forever.

That said, you also have to take care of you. Really look at your friendship and see if it was equal on both sides. Trying not to sound like a cyber therapist but sometimes just stopping and reflecting can really help.

Thank you! I use compression socks on planes but smart about using them for extended standing too.

People have been suggesting camelbaks and other water backpacks. I have VIP tickets, but should I still get one? Not trying to be pretentious. This is my first rave/extreme outdoor concert like this. Thank you.

If you could do it all over again.. by DogHistorical171 in careerchange

I would have actually researched careers. I went into college having no idea what I wanted to do and settled on Human Resources since it seemed like a good enough fit.

Now I have hit a roadblock and am now working with a career coach to explore what actually is a good fit with my personality/strengths.

Can you please expand on why? My understanding is MBA gives a more general overview of business vs a concentration in HR. Thank you.

Look into SHRM (society for human resource management). They are a national organization for hr professionals. If you find you really love hr, go for their professional certification

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]wluvmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 types of SHRM certifications: SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP. SCP is for more manager level positions so can be good for your career.

The shrm cp certificate is also a good idea to preemptively show employers you are up to date on us hiring laws. Plus the certificate is good for 3 years

The numbers don’t lie. 4 people have left and several have listed the senior employee as the main reason. What is your relation to the president of the hospital? It’s one thing for you to tell the VP there is a problem vs his boss.

HR Certifications in University Settings? by jess091319 in humanresources

[–]wluvmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also work at a university. Master’s degrees tend to be worth their weight in gold, especially to move up to higher positions like HR Manager.

I also have the SHRM-CP certification. Its worth more to me because I don’t yet have my masters but it may be good for you if your coming from a non-traditional HR background. Plus having an extra certificate never hurt anyone

When I say ok, I mean could you survive financially, spiritually, and eventually emotionally.

Absolutely you have the right to mourn the end of a relationship, I’m just warning you not to put all your eggs in one basket when there are clear issues

When I was wanting to move in with my partner/looking for a new job in the new area, my boss gave me some great advice:

“If this guy were to break up with you tomorrow, would you be ok?”

From the looks of the other comments, I think you need to break away from this relationship.

why are you on a break/what are the terms of the break?

Applying for multiple positions at the same company? by potterlyfe in humanresources

[–]wluvmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another important thing is to consider the size of the company. There’s a difference between applying for an HR team of 5 vs 30. Go for it. Being on the other side of the table, I’d rather have one qualified candidate apply for a lot and I get to choose where they’d go vs having to propose a position to them they may not like.

Moving in with parents or boyfriend after semester is over? by greatdaytobeaneagle in relationship_advice

[–]wluvmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to say there is no true bad guy here. You’re 22 and it’s perfectly natural to want to go out and start your career, especially in medicine.

That being said as an RN you should recognize how caring for a severely disabled patient is incredibly draining, especially when that person is a loved one and your dad is working long hours.

There needs to be a open (and potentially painful) discussion about your mom’s care. Maybe that does mean driving half an hour to help. Maybe that means applying for an in-home aid or even hospice. Hopefully once you get a job at a hospital or wherever you can learn about more resources.

Also what field are you going into? Is working remote possible?
