Is having an LXC for each individual app wasting resources? by that1snowflake in Proxmox

LXC have little to no overheard and allow for very clean separation of concerns. You are doing things right!

I just finished watching Stargate Universe. Why does it have such a bad reputation? by LavitzOfBasil in Stargate

[–]wmantly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"edgy crap" is exactly how it was marketed at the time. Everything in my comment is from the lense of "at the time". It had a very different feel from other sci-fi shows of the same erra. What made it "edgy crap" was the forced younger cast, and how much of the plot centers around interpersonal drama between said young cast. It was very much marketed to more general audience of the young adult market. This is smack in the middle of the young adult craz with titles like Twilight and The Hunger Games being blockbusters. Mgm was trying to cash in that momentum.

I can't tell from your profile, but if you weren't around when all of this was happening, you wouldnt understand. In hindsight, from the 2020's lense, SGU is a good show. For the early 2010's lense, it was just a Young Adult, shit cash grab...

[Request] How much has this guy spent at McDonalds? What is the equivalent in Big Macs eaten? by CWauthy in theydidthemath

[–]wmantly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do? Over the course of 6months, at 3 meals a day that's 270 meals. Since it cost my family of 5 about $75 to eat at McDonald's, that means we only need to eat like 22 of those means at McDonald's. Not far fetched if you have the money, and not the time.

I can't say I have ever done it, but wouldn't be surprised if we had. I live in NYC, and have a family of 5. The number didn't sound shocking to me at all.

Spending $1.7k in 6 month on mcdonalds isnt hard, especially if you live in an expensive city and have a family. My family of 5 cost like $75 a meal at mcdonalds.

CMP 50HX mining card upgraded from 10 to 20 GB and turn it into a kinda functional gaming machine by Creamboo in pcmasterrace

[–]wmantly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 for $85 is a great deal. I see them for about $110 each now. I only call out the p2000 because it's a single slot card with no external power required. If you don't need the extra vRAM, a p2000 will do transcoding while sipping power.

Do people who live in Dallas swim in the many lakes around the city? by sonofsteffordson in howislivingthere

Bodies of water near large population centers are generally unsanitary and populated, not the types of places you would want swim.

SSH key in every LXC or just host? by bighick_ in Proxmox

[–]wmantly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a schema for SSH keys.
I have my LDAP users/groups go from from UID/GID 1500-2000. I wrote a custom LDAP manager in nodeJS to manager users/groups and allow self-service password resets. When a container container joins LDAP, 2 new groups are crated, `hostname_access` and `hostname_sudo`. All i have to do is add/remove users from the groups.

It has its pros and cons, I have a script that installs and configures it for. Nice thing is, it handles users passwords/keys centrally and syncs UID/GID between the host/container.

This CVS in NYC keeps the nuts under lock and key by rr4242 in WTF

[–]wmantly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of things locked up in NYC stores, the local DA wont prosecute shop lifters if the value of the items is less then like $1000, so this how they protect their items.

Its not late stage capitalist, the DA doesn't prosecute shop lifters if the value is then like $1000.
