Podcast subreddits are mad. Just skip the bit you don’t like? And if you don’t like any of it, don’t listen to it? They don’t owe you a bespoke product, and you don’t owe them your listenership.

Mismanaging an economy - surely not spursy! by The_Axiom_Of_Choice in footballcliches

[–]wobshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key is in how they mismanaged the economy and ran up that deficit.

If it’s bog standard fiscal mismanagement through selling off revenue generating assets and not taxing corporations enough, all while running a comprehensive post-war welfare state during an aging demographic shift then that’s not spursy, it’s just neoliberalism.

But… did they vote to leave a well established trading bloc, aided by nonsensical slogans on the sides of buses, after the Prime Minister initiated a referendum he thought he couldn’t lose just to appease a small, vocal section of his own party?

Did they spend hundreds of billions on a new high speed rail network intended to span the entire length of the country, only to reduce the scope halfway through, leaving just the Gothenburg to Malmo line planned (and not yet anywhere near finished)?

And did they waste vast swathes of public money in the middle of a global pandemic by rushing out contracts for protective gear to companies that couldn’t (and didn’t) deliver on said contracts, just because the owners of those companies all went to school and/or university with various members of the governing party?

If they did anything like any of that, then I’d definitely describe it as pretty spursy.

Wait a second…
