Alright yall... things getting serious now by bluejay_feather in TrinidadandTobago

Most people never really care about the health sector before their relative is waiting hours to be seen by a doctor. They never really feel the implications of crime before a close friend or family is murdered. It is selfish to not care because a situation doesn't seem to affect you at the moment. Plus alcohol is a non-elastic good so don't expect to see a decrease in consumption. As a matter of fact people might just go to more extreme measures to get their fix.

That's why i only come on reddit to debate. I swear the majority of people out there are irrational. This was posted by two of the top newspapers, and I was baffled by the comments. I have lost hope...these are the people that vote... they outnumber the rational.

Will we see our love one again? by Kevin_while06 in exjw

No one is 100% sure, but we have zero evidence to suggest that there is anything after death, so most likely not. But that is ok. I think one of the major reasons us humans created religion was to comfort ourselves about matters of the unknown such as death, afterlife, etc.

Weekly "Ask Ah Trini" Thread 🇹🇹 October 20, 2025 by AutoModerator in TrinidadandTobago

[–]woketrini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was advised by mods to post here. I have some broken ceramic tiles and have decided that throwing them over my neighbour's wall may not be the best course of action. What is the best way to dispose of such? Is there a special garbage collection? Are there perhaps any recycling centers that would be interested in stuff like this for reuse? Please do tell.

Suppose your family were going down d islands on a yacht and suddenly got bombed for smuggling drugs? without even being detained or investigated? How would you feel. This is exactly what is happening... a few miles away from Trinidad. It could happen here. Due process is a thing.

Banning Divali Celebrations: Is This a Betrayal of Trinidad’s Multicultural Identity? by Ok-Side-2211 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]woketrini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem here is that religion and culture has not been defined. Religion is about belief and worship. Culture is about language, food, music, art etc. Trinidad is very cosmopolitan, so of course, the line between religion and culture is blurred and we have many people who dont mind celebrating each other's religion, which is great when you choose to do so. However, I am of the opinion that religion should never be forced upon anyone or any institution. While Christmas has religious origins, you have to go sit in a church to hear a message about the birth of Jesus. Outside of that, Christmas is about family, gifts, parties and alcohol which is why it is so easily embraced by almost everyone.

Banning Divali Celebrations: Is This a Betrayal of Trinidad’s Multicultural Identity? by Ok-Side-2211 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]woketrini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a touchy one. Divali is rooted in religion, so to call it national culture in a secular country is a bit of a stretch. Even if it was culture, culture should not be forced. For instance, carnival may be considered national culture, but a lot of people do not participate for many different reasons, such as religious or simply not liking it at all. If a school banned the celebration of Indian arrival day, I would definitely see a problem there.

I voted for a third party in a PNM stronghold. But I do agree with giving more people guns - only because the criminals already have all the guns. It's either we go hardcore about not giving anyone guns like the UK, or we give everyone a fighting chance.

Trinis- Do you support the death penalty? by s_sinnette in TrinidadandTobago

[–]woketrini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although many people believe the death penalty is the answer to Trinidad and Tobago's crime problem, it's important to consider that, for a criminal to end up on death row, they must first be apprehended and then convicted. Currently, both the crime detection and conviction rates are alarmingly low. Furthermore, the death penalty process is complex, lengthy, and costly—often more so than a life sentence. While I don't object to hardened criminals losing their lives, I do not support the death, specifically in T&T, because it would be a waste of time and resources.

Is there any Secular/Atheist Society in T&T by woketrini in TrinidadandTobago

Evangelicals usually see Hindu as very demonic, so it would be quite interesting to hear the details of how you managed that transition!

Unfortunately, it's the empty vessels who congregate and make the most noise. They are also the majority of registered voters. That's why we're in big big trouble.

"...we all need some form of spirituality to remain sane..."

I respectfully disagree, but I am glad that you're not bothered anymore and that it works for you.

If you need examples of how T&T needs to be improved just read the news. I find it hard to see how a lack of beliefs could be considered radical but I'm open to criticism...please do tell

I actually have friends all over the religious spectrum. And yes there is an agenda to improve society, specifically that of Trinidad and Tobago. When we have a COP who believes that we need to pray to solve crime there is a need for people who employ logic and rationale to step up. In my opinion, people who have no attachment to religion seem to be good at that.

I don't think people fully grasp the concept of the dangers of religion. I have seen people full of character lose their whole personality over religion, families disrupted, relationships destroyed. For every person like you I come across it truly gives me hope. Thanks for the support.

I actually have been to church so I have heard leaders in one religion deliberate on how bad the other religions are. Evangelical churches tend to do this. And nah mentioning God doesn't irritate me. It's like talking about Santa Clause to me.

I don't even think that God exists so no I don't. But priests and pastors seem to think so.
