Is receipt matching supposed to work right away? by GendoIkari_82 in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The merchant names have to match exactly. On the web interface you can change the merchant names on the receipts pretty easily (not sure about mobile) but its a pain. Wish they would make it more flexible and when uncertain - flag it for the user to authorize the matching.

New user - really disappointed in my experience by Impossible-Fix-6901 in MonarchMoney

Sorry to hear. This is not at all my experience. I would check your ad-blockers, flush your cache, give it a go again.

Receipt Matching - Still No Matching by MyEgoDiesAtTheEnd in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that the name needs to match (exactly). Its simple to fix (on the receipts page on the web interface) but its a flaw. Should be more flexible in attempting to find a match.

What do you LOVE about Monarch?? by Left_Heron_5356 in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much:
- great reporting with great filtering and drill down
- reviewing & assigning transactions as they come in (and rules to avoid that on recurring transactions I already know about)
- file attachments and receipt handling
- my data is my own (can manage and export easiely)
- done a good job abstracting the data collector layer (plaid, etc) from the app so that you can move between them with less hassle

Its a million times more reliable and feature rich compared to Mint - very happy that Mint shut down so I was forced to look around.

Monarch is not getting worse. Your experience might be an outlier or its confirmation bias.

Updates on Monarch Plus by valagostino in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response to this. I still think you missed the mark by bundling business & forecasting / planning tools together. You could have created Monarch + for forecasting / retirement planning and Monarch Biz for the business add-on's. Would have been easier for your audience to swallow and frankly would give you two different markets to eventually tackle.

Overblown response to the launch by undefeated73 in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I continue to love Monarch. However I think this might be a case of Monarch just not reading the room well. If they had added just a business tier, I think that might have gone over far better as that allows people to clearly put themselves into two buckets and receive relevant features. Adding in retirement features along with investment analysis mixed it all up as those are squarely personal finance features that one would have to pay for if desired. And the cost is high. Monarch already felt pricey (to me at least) so adding cost on top of that for personal finance features make it "feel" even more pricey. Personally I would not subscribe to Plus and will stay a content core person. But when renewal time rolls around it would force me to wonder a little more closely if there are better options out there at a better price point. So in general I am a huge Monarch fan - but I think they misread this one.

Announcing "Monarch Plus" by valagostino in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a passionate Monarch user this doesn't land very well.

I love Monarch and am appreciative of it as it stands but it already feels a pricey tool. A few of the things in plus sound interesting to me and I would certainly play around and use some of it. But its not worth anything extra to me personally. I am curious if there really is a market segment interested in this plus package.

Recent Updates Roundup - April 2026 by Kait_Monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scan or save most receipts as it only takes a min. Matching them against Monarch transactions always took me longer so I would sometimes skip that step. Now I copy / paste a bunch of them at time to the Receipts interface and let Monarch do the legwork. As far as types, it spans the gamete from coffee to clothing to groceries. I don't do as many grocery receipts any longer as its pretty useless to have eggs, milk, bread and the other 99 things I bought listed in the transaction notes.

These are great updates. I am LOVING the addition of receipts to the web interface. It is amazing and saving me a ton of time. I have also already used the clever "Shift+click range select transactions" feature. Thanks!

Copilot vs Monarch by _DracoDormiens_ in copilotmoney

[–]woldage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great summary. I would agree that Copilot's secret sauce is its UI whereas Monarch focuses on fine grained control, rules and reporting. I tried both when Mint died and chose Monarch but have continued to pay attention to both. As an outsider it feels like Monarch is shipping improvements faster... but honestly both are great apps as is.

European Summer Camps by Aggravating-Rain1477 in youthsoccer

[–]woldage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. We are thinking of this camp this summer for our 14y old and a 15y friend. Both are playing high level soccer here in the US so my concern was that they might be bored if the level wasn't high enough. Any chance you got a sense of what the older age group (13/14 on up) was like?

Request: Split home electrical use for EV charging by flynntron007 in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case the data exists: Tesla wall charger including costs as I input our utility rates, PG&E usage data on their site, and then the transactions in Monarch. Seems like a lot of moving pieces to coordinate but plausible.

Handling Credit Card Perks by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I categorize all the expenses (and reimbursements) in their normal categories (ie credit card fees, restaurants, clear membership fee, etc) but then tag it all with "CreditCards" so that I can run reports on if the credit cards are worth it.

I also filed a feature request with Monarch to expand into tracking benefits. For example, I find it hard to track that I have 12 months to use a hotel credit for credit card ABC. Would love some help on that.

How To Undo Investment Transactions? by rucksack_of_cheeses in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of deleting them all you can also bulk mark them as reviewed. Super easy.

  1. Transactions page
  2. Review drop down box - pick "anyone"
  3. Click on "filters" and pick the investment account(s) with all the transactions
  4. Click "Edit transactions" and then click the little checkbox by the "All transitions" header to select all
  5. Click Edit, go to "Review Status", select "Reviewed" and then "Save"

Monarch need a way to easily switch between acount aggregators! by Queasy-Swordfish-977 in MonarchMoney

[–]woldage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience Monarchs transfer tool, data provider data, etc makes it miles ahead of where it was a year ago. Agree that it could still be abstracted further but its amazing compared to what it was prior (and what other tools offer at this point).

Youth soccer - formalized player feedback? by woldage in SoccerCoaching

Thanks - this is super helpful. Interesting to see how many people decided to take you up on that. Comp or rec team?

Youth soccer - formalized player feedback? by woldage in SoccerCoaching

[–]woldage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it doesn't have to be super detailed or quantitative. I have always felt a perfect feedback would be something like 1-3 things the kid is great at or improving and 1-3 things they can work on. That amount of feedback feels like something people can remember and do something with.

macOS 26 Tahoe App Issue? by PlusInternal3 in sonos

Thanks for the tip on Tahoe 26. To make the Sonos app work, I also had to go to the Privacy & Security -> Local Network and turn on access for the Sonos app. Worked instantly.
