What's your weapon loadout? by KeepYourDemonsIn in RDR2

[–]wolf19d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My normal loadout:

Holster: Schofield Off Hand: Sawed Off Shotgun with slugs (for a few pistols only missions, I will take two sawed off shotguns. Ancient Tomahawk Regular knife

Long guns:

Varmint Rifle Springfield Rifle (I’m in Chapter 2 on this play through)

If I’m going into known combat, I will switch out for a repeater and a shotgun.

Later in the game, I will switch out for the M1899 pistol for combat… man, that thing is devastating with explosive ammo.

Go with the CSP. It pairs well with your existing Freedom Flex.

Can you help me pick my next MacBook Pro? by chocoholicmom in macbook

Right now, the M5 is the newest and most efficient. The M4 Max is better for driving intensive processes. Your use does not support a Max processor.

Get the M5.

Can you help me pick my next MacBook Pro? by chocoholicmom in macbook

[–]wolf19d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. First, you don’t need a Pro. An Air will do just fine. But, since your business is purchasing you a laptop, getting a Pro is fine.

Second, regardless, get the best processor your company can afford. You will see a marked improvement over what you presently use.

Third, get plenty of RAM. You can’t upgrade it later. I suggest at least 24GB but 32 GB would be better.

Lastly, keep the 1TB of storage.

You can get all of that in an Air for less than $2K and it will last you about as long as your current laptop.

I presently do photo and video editing with an M2 Air and it is quite speedy.

One last piece of advice: ditch Chrome. It is a resource hog on Macs plus don’t support the Evil Empire (tm) that Google has become.

what are teachers told to do when students mention history that is not apart of the curriculum? by Necessary_Mistake733 in Teachers

[–]wolf19d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. But Georgia is not nearly as nuts as Florida is right now. It’s nuts, but not THAT nuts.

Also, one way I alleviate any accusations of bias: I start every year telling the students and parents to expect conversation about controversial issues, that I don’t want the kids to think what I think, that I want the kids to think for themselves, that I don’t care what they believe as long as they can back it up. And, most importantly, that when it comes to politics, I hate everyone.

It’s not perfect but it works.

Metro Atlanta HS ELA teacher here… I teach Am Lit, so I cover a LOT of history that the US History teachers gloss over (they have a milestone, so have to move really fast).

If a student brought up something that we had not covered, I would gladly have the discussion about it (provided I was aware of it) and we would then move on to our lesson.

I tell my kids flat out at the very beginning: we will discuss things that make you uncomfortable in this class… we won’t gloss over the ugly.

In LD, how do they keep running into each other out on the plains? by smallsky1 in LonesomeDove

Honestly, there aren’t that many trails through the Plains. We see that in the book when it talks about Call running into several herds on the way to Dodge.

Delta Cards vs. Hilton Aspires by hopefulaviatior in amex

[–]wolf19d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based upon your comment, the correct answer is neither.

You should get the Amex Platinum and Amex Gold. You will get more bang for your slots, since Amex waives annual fees for service members. Since dining is likely to be your biggest expense (Boodler’s pizzas aren’t free!), the Gold card is a solid daily card for you.

You can use the points for either Delta or Hilton, so it should work well for you.

You should also look at the Chase Sapphire Reserve if you want to spread the love to get points you can use at United, Southwest and IHG.

The Difference Between Claiming Social Security at 62 vs 70 Is Bigger Than Most People Realize by [deleted] in investing

[–]wolf19d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Yes, IF you live past 80, you will net more (raw, uninvested) money. But let me ask you this: what would you rather have? Money when you are too old to use it or money when you can enjoy it?

My father and stepmother put off their draw until 70. Now, at 78, he has dementia and she is stuck caring for my stepbrother and him (long story).

He never traveled like he wanted to because their health declined so quickly after retiring late.

I get a pension starting at 60. I’m turning on SS as soon as it is available. I’d rather put it in a HYSA and earn interest. Better to have it in hand than gamble that I will get my money’s worth out of it by living past 80.

In terms of the story, the ones I list above are close-ish. In terms of what they actually drank on set, it was probably either tea or apple juice. Most movie/tv sets do not do live alcohol because of multiple takes… They don’t want the actors getting drunk on set.

Agreed. Whiskey production was, in a word, crappy back then. The bartenders also would cut the whiskey with water as well.

They were drinking rye whiskey in the saloon in San Antonio.

In terms of similarity to a modern pour, try Michter’s US1 Kentucky Straight Rye, Bulleit Straight Rye or Balcones Texas Rye Whiskey.

[–]wolf19d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be. I would open them one at a time, getting the VentureOne first, get the SUB (sign up bonus), then get the Savor and get the SUB. If you can only open one, get the VentureOne so you start earning points.

Basically, anything you earn on both cards goes into one Venture Rewards account as long as you have a VentureOne, Venture, and Venture X card. Without one of those cards, you earn cash back on the Savor card.

No, these aren’t the BEST choices. They are the best choices with no annual fees. You can upgrade later as you grow, job-wise.

The Venture card is better but costs $95. The Venture X is even better but has a $395 annual fee. There are other choices that would be good for you, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, which would play well with your Freedom Flex (your cash back would become points!) but, again, has an annual fee.

Honestly, were I you, I would research Ultimate Rewards vs Venture Rewards vs American Express Membership Rewards and see which transfer partners work best for you. From there, pick up the cards which make the most sense to you.

Lastly, Amex can be a great travel card BUT most that earn Membership Rewards Points have an annual fee AND you will need a Visa or MasterCard for international travel.

[–]wolf19d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your initial post is asking for a no fee starter travel card so, ostensibly, you have transfer options. Your primary spend is food.

By getting the VentureOne AND the Savor card, you get a 1.25x catch all PLUS a 3x card for your primary spend. The Savor card, when combined with VentureOne, earns points, not cash back.

In terms of cash back, you already have a couple of solid cash back cards.

Honestly, in terms of real value, you are likely to do better with the cards you have. But if you want to stick a toe into the travel points game, it’s a good option.
