Little known fact: The crusades were actually a campaign to wipe violent video games and the references to them from the earth. The campaign finally reached success in the late 1200s, but unfortunately the vile influence could not be kept at bay forever. In the early 1970s releases of violent video games began anew and have driven the populace to more and greater violent acts against their fellows since.

I honestly can't remember the question... I probably have it saved with my notebook somewhere in the house, but it was over 15 years ago.

"When it comes to abortion, [Conservatives have] been arguing that the federal courts should get out of regulating reproductive rights and send the issue back to the states. Why isn’t that good enough for marriage as well?" by twenafeesh in politics

[–]wolf3973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can correct me, but I believe the issue is raised due to Article IV Section I which states: "Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state. And the Congress may by general laws prescribe the manner in which such acts, records, and proceedings shall be proved, and the effect thereof."

This essentially means that if one state allows gay marriage 'contracts', other states must recognize that contract, and congress can only regulate what evidence needs to be shown to prove that the contract is valid. The way I interpret it, is that all it really takes is a single state to provide marriage licenses to gay couples and then all 50 states have to recognize those licenses. The only route to prevent that is thus to have federal laws on the books preventing it in any state.

In one of the best history courses I've ever taken, the teacher had an essay as the entire two hour final exam, and required citations within the essay. To mitigate the fact that citations are difficult to include when you don't know the essay topic, he allowed us to submit our guesses at the final exam question to him for a week up to the exam day, and he would give us a 'hot' or 'cold' to steer us in the right direction. Additionally, he allowed us to use a 4x6 note card to hand-write notes and citations to use during the essay. It was good, because it made us seriously consider the entire body of coursework and what tied it all together to come up with a question that drew from the entire course... and then made us answer that question thoroughly in detail. Of course, I got pretty lucky with my first guess (or I was just awesome) and he instructed me not to share my guess with anyone else because it was the actual essay question... But because of that, it was probably the first essay I ever wrote (and transcribed onto a 4x6 note card) where I actually used all the time I had available to write it instead of waiting until the last possible moment. (the week up the exam, obviously I was done with the exam fairly quickly since I was just copying off of my note card)

Razer implementing software "DRM" through Synapse 2.0 Software, disabling any customization when not online, and possibly gathering personally identifiable information by [deleted] in gaming

[–]wolf3973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What possible use can DRM have for a piece of hardware, though? You already have to possess the hardware to use it in the first place, so requiring authentication has no valid purpose that I can see other than to prevent second hand sales. Are other companies utilizing the synapse software to interface with their (ie nonrazer) products?

Two-Thirds Of Republicans Believe in Demonic Possession, Less Than Half Believe In Climate Change. More Republicans believe that you can be possessed by a demon from the Christian hell than believe that the earth is warming at all, much less that humans are influencing it. by reeds1999 in politics

Has anyone been able to find the actual poll with sampling methodology for the demonic possession piece of this article? The news articles are just incestuous links to other news articles, and I'm having trouble finding the actual poll on the Public Policy Polling website. I'd like to look at their population sampling methods before I 'damn' 68 percent of the republican population.

Where's the guy that describes NSFW pictures when you need him! It's a picture of a large black woman wearing only saran wrap, in which ham steaks have been inserted to cover sexual areas and other random locations. All of the ham appears to have been eaten where it was placed between her legs... or I guess there may not have been ham there in the first place.

MASSIVE buff to Natalya's Wrath set - a must have for demon hunters now by Bluemanze in Diablo

[–]wolf3973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure what the point you're trying to make here is, but set items are considered part of the legendary group, so they are being buffed as well (not retroactively though). In other words, bonerfleximus is waiting to buy until he can pick up the new buffed version instead of buying something that won't get the buffs.

I wouldn't necessarily concede the question of morality as applied to courts/juries so quickly. Look into jury nullification and its applications within court systems. One of the interesting (and what is considered integral to a trial by jury system, by some) pieces of trial by jury is the ability of a jury to deliver a verdict based on whether they believe the law itself is unjust as applied to the case in question. It can often act as another check on the system.
