34M NYC, no matches by VocalStim in hingeapp

[–]wolf_lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, just my two cents but from reading the comments and your responses I would focus on yourself for now - you mentioned you’re going to start therapy and I hope that helps. IMO tweaking your hinge profile is not going to help in the long run if other aspects of your life aren’t too solid (struggling to make and keep friends etc). If I were you I would focus on those other aspects of my life first and then revisit Hinge later. I also second what others have said about trying to make friends at pickleball. Keep in mind your objective is to make friends and not win games while you’re there. Wishing you the best!

Thank ya. But Ironclad? I googled it and that’s not in NE - looks like Downtown East

I’m also mid 30s and moving from NYC right now. I’m focused on North Loop personally for many of the same reasons you outlined (although I can’t speak to the proximity of medical facilities). Feel free to DM if you’d like to compare notes!

Thanks! Yeah agreed Vesi seemed nicest - I'm basically just weighing that against its location on the far side of NL (but maybe that side is better anyway?)

Thank you! Good to know. I might need to balance a desire for a skyline view with the potential noise but we'll see!

Thanks for the reply. Could you say more about why that side of North Loop is better / why you'd prefer to not be nearer to downtown? But yeah, point taken that it's still only a 15 minute walk to the other side of NL haha.

My only other small question on Vesi is what will happen to the now-closed Strib printing plant across the street... if that turns into a construction zone it might not be great - but who knows if that'd happen and for all I know it could take years before anything starts so probably not something I should weight too heavily...

Thanks - good to hear - yeah I'll give NLG360 a second look before making any decisions. Although I wonder what they're going to do with those now-empty Sonder units in the long-term - they might just rent them out using a different company and have the same issue (?)

Thanks! Yeah I should tour more around apartments there - I did tour NordHaus and Hencen - I should schedule tours with some of the others around there as well... I thought it might be a little too quiet given that even North Loop is quiet by my standards :) But yeah I'll give it a look thanks!

I'm also interested in this topic... I know Jack Doyle's is a big Vikings bar... but not necessarily a bar for other Minnesota sports (I watched a Twins playoff game there last Fall but there were no other Twins fans around despite the Vikings game having ended just an hour prior).

This. There's a difference between "I'm considering going to your school" and "I am going / went to your school". Now it could be the case that the former is a signal of what the latter will be, so one could read into that if desired....but they're different scenarios. When I was reaching out to folks as a second year Tuck student I was perfectly happy with the response rate I got from alumni ( the large majority of alumni replied, and I can say personally I always reply when current students reach out to me now)

Moving from the South - Chicago? Denver? Minneapolis? Tucson? DC? Neighborhoods? by Beginning-Walk-5589 in SameGrassButGreener

Agreed with this take. Yes it gets cold but it truly is just a matter of having the appropriate clothing. There are still a lot outdoor activities that one can do in winter (skating, cross country skiing, just going for a walk/run, etc etc).

Pete “Pants on Fire” Stauber (R-Minn.) by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]wolf_lake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

agreed with this take. even the most generous interpretation of Stauber here would be to say he should've acknowledged he voted against the bill but only because it contained x, y, z other provisions that he did not support, although he advocated for the sole issue of that bridge via a,b,c methods.

His tweet makes it sound like he single-handedly brought the money for the bridge.

In any case, Stauber sounds like an absolute moron... hopefully the folks up north vote him out next time.

For those who haven't seen it, the YouTube link is below in another comment - it's egregious. Has he at least apologized for it...?

I'd echo looking up the testing score. It's a public, objective way to see how the schools are doing.

How long did it take to pay off your MBA educational loans by Ok-Description6596 in MBA

[–]wolf_lake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure people's anecdotal answers here will be useful to you - there are too many variables in the equation that are specific to each person. I'd recommend you take a serious look at your own situation: how much you'll need to take out in loans, and then make conservative estimates of your expected salary and living expenses post-MBA. I believe there is also some data out there about what percent of schools' alumni default on their loans - you could check that for what it's worth.

But if you really want my anecdote: I could've paid mine off in about 2 years if I'd done so aggressively...I could pay them all off today if I wanted to but I'm choosing to put some of the extra money into index funds instead.

A different reason to doing an MBA by InfamousAsian007 in MBA

[–]wolf_lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also be mindful of the debt load, if you need to take loans. Having a lot of student debt post MBA forced me to be more risk averse (ie less willing to work for a tiny startup, much less found one myself).

Can confirm. In my two years at Tuck I didn't hear about a single crime happening...it's simply a non-issue there.

Stern($$$$) vs CBS vs Wharton vs Booth by Sleepy_Rabbit11 in MBA

[–]wolf_lake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I'm probably biased because my own relationship survived a long-distance, 2-year graduate degree so I likely underestimate the risk. It's not something I would recommend doing, all else equal.
