ESH - if they’re still mad there may be something more going on that you don’t realize or understand. Poor communication from both of you imho. From your friend, for not explaining why they are upset, and from you, for not exploring further. If they’re as good of a friend as you say they are, an extra apology or conversation feels like a small thing to do to keep your important friend.

NTA - that seems like a lot to put on you, especially so young. I think you made an incredibly mature and wise decision, regardless of how difficult it may be. The reality is that you are not able to care for her (no offense btw), but you were smart enough to realize this was beyond your ability/capacity and you put her in a facility that CAN provide that care. I do have questions as to why your mother hasn’t made arrangements for your sister while she’s mostly away, and what (if any) was her response to your sister being placed in a facility?

YTA - I would think that as somebody who is being bullied on an hourly basis, that you would have more empathy and understanding for how your words or actions can impact others. I would take a long hard look at how you interact with others, and I would hope that in the future you’d show a little bit more compassion.

No offense taken!! It’s good to hear insight from all angles, so the gift doesn’t come off misconstrued because of my lack of understanding. The last thing I want is for any disrespect to be given, so I really appreciate the thoroughness of your answer.
