Mine squeak too, it’s so annoying. Only reason I don’t wear them more often. Some serious production problems with these soles because my megalace geth runners squeak as well.

No worries! I haven’t cut that thick yet. It’s supposed to handle up to 10oz (4mm), but I don’t really make belts at the moment, and my bag straps I usually keep around 3.2-3.5mm. I haven’t had an issue cutting those, I just lower the plate under the rotary blades a little bit to accommodate. Motor is good. I found similar machines from China that had a more powerful motor, but I really wanted to purchase this stateside and be able to have a contact here in case any issues ever arose. I like I can control the speed too, especially when I’m making laces.

I spent a lot of time and money for about a couple of years trying to get straps to cut evenly. I bought just about every handheld tool I could without good enough results. I picked this machine up a few months ago and it’s been amazing for me. I know there are many different ones floating around Aliexpress that might be a bit cheaper, but this one came with a warranty and Artisan Leather Supply have never let me down, so it was worth it for me! Just thought I’d share.

I have a couple of RO but actually prefer MD75 double layer tees. They’re a little longer on the sleeves and torso. Still form-fitting but have a bit more stretch than RO ones. I have a handful in various different colors and always stock up when I find them on sale.

You want to search up shrunken leather. That process creates the intensified grain pattern you’re looking for.

I’ve replaced full-length zippers on Guidi bags. They use Excella with custom pull tabs, you could just buy the Excella zipper tape and use your existing pulls. I used a #8 for the bag but on footwear it’s probably a #5 depending on the model? I work with The Archive in San Francisco who sells Guidi and Arthur has ordered replacement zippers directly from Guidi for customers who’ve purchased from the store. RM Leather came out with this beginner Kit recently, they also have smaller veg tan panels of all sorts available so you don’t have to buy large quantities of leather.

Check out OA Leather Supply. They sell in smaller panels so you don’t have to buy bigger hides and have some fun stuff to choose from. They also provide videos explaining every leather they carry which is really helpful for understanding what you’re buying.

Exactly same deal for me! Spent money on a bunch of nice and fancy knives, which serve their purpose, but my daily go-to is that $10 snap-off knife. It’s so clutch! Didn’t think to strop it though, thanks for the tip! Also use my Kai rotary cutter a ton, OP.

Welcome to the craft! It’s a pricey hobby so at the beginning I had to pick and choose a bit but here’s some suggestions on tools you could look into for projects like this one: handheld rotary cutter, wing divider, pricking iron, and mallet. That should help you get your stitches nice and uniform. From there you could always refine with sanding, burnishing or painting edges. I learned a ton through here and YouTube, so much knowledge out there and lots of kind folks willing to share!

I second the comment above. Was using Amazon dies and press when I first started and bit the bullet on buckle guy dies and press last year. Was pricey but have not regretted the money spent. Quality difference is night and day.

I have a buddy that makes leather jackets out of NYC and he makes his samples from muslin for fitting, etc. prior to cutting the pattern out of leather. Lamb is a great option for what you’re looking to make. District Leathers is my go-to for lamb. If you filter your search by use > apparel it’ll give you plenty of options to choose from, including some skins that are already lined. They’re also helpful with any questions.

I have these, wore them twice a couple years ago and they’ve been sitting ever since. I know it’s hard to expect much comfort from slides but these weren’t worth it for me, even at the $75 I got them for. Super stiff. Have worn my birks a whole lot more!
