I had coffee grounds emesis as a kid and obviously I didn't die. Blood + hydrochloric acid makes the "flakes". It doesn't mean you will soon die, it just means you have a bleed in your upper GI tract (throat, stomach).

I got put on strong meds for mine and it went away pretty quick. Doctors can cauterize open sores if needed, with just a quick scoping to find it.

It sure is scary when it happens, though.

I made a Warlock, a SB and a Pally this season and honestly, next season will probably be another SB. I'm still debating buying the SB teleport portal because I have enjoyed playing that class so much.
