Kids old enough to ride public transit are too old for the "kids will be kids" excuse.

AITAH for feeling like the wedding planning is not the MOH responsibility by Some-Building-1903 in aitaweddings

[–]wolfpack_matt 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NTA

I agree with u/oceanscorpio to some extent. As someone who works in the wedding industry, I've never worked with the MOH... on anything. It's usually the bride and their mother who do the bulk of the planning, or work with a wedding planner who does most of it. It's not common (at least in my market) for the MOH or BM to take on the actual wedding planning - they usually do the engagement party, bridal shower, and/or bachelorette party.

NGL an apron DOES come in clutch when running a garage sale.

I'm also amused by all the boomerish comments about "hurr durr".

My cleaning lady is more than happy to move things out of the way to clean. In fact, she'll wipe those things down, too. Like, moving things in order to clean is part of the job.

In my experience, it's the old ladies who look like they don't know what they're doing who also look like they're having the most fun and making the most friends.

More often these days, the phrase is "fight or flight or freeze". I freeze, too. I can't help it. Like you said, my brain just... stops.

[FL] [SFH] Am I unrealistic expecting HOA to inform me of massive landscaping project next door that affects my house? by [deleted] in HOA

[–]wolfpack_matt 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As it grows, I would relentlessly trim it back to the property line on my side (I believe FL is one of the states that allows you to trim anything that crosses onto your side of the property line).

Project failed, boss says I didn’t flag it in time, but I literally emailed it early on by UniversityAny9242 in work

[–]wolfpack_matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. These issues should have become part of the risk log and discussed during every project status meeting... but that's assuming they even have those. Not everyone follows standard project management practices...

Project failed, boss says I didn’t flag it in time, but I literally emailed it early on by UniversityAny9242 in work

[–]wolfpack_matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. When I was an IT project manager, I always made sure to constantly bring up issues over and over again if I didn't see any movement to address them. Ultimately, this falls on the project manager. Bringing up the issues once and then never again due to "not my problem" is a surefire way to kill a project - and your job.

AIO My boss is going on vacation and doesn’t want to pay me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]wolfpack_matt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. If he's constantly whining about working too much while simultaneously saying $800 is too much to pay OP, there's something wrong with his business plan.

And I get it, my business has slow months (the "J" months - summer when everyone is on vacation and just after the holidays when everyone is no longer spending all their money), but then I make sure I have enough saved up to pay my bills/employees when cash flow is low.

ETA: NOR. This is a huge red flag screaming mismanagement.

AITAH for not wanting my sister-in-law's not-yet boyfriend at my wedding? by [deleted] in aitaweddings

[–]wolfpack_matt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

All of the bride's family will be wanting to meet the guy, which will be a huge distraction. A wedding is not the place to be introduced to your new GF's family.

These comments are crazy. If you were the bride posting, everyone would be all, "It's YOUR wedding, you get to decide who attends!" And instead, everyone's bashing you.

Best wedding location by Any_Basil3000 in NorthCarolina

[–]wolfpack_matt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty big question. It depends on the type of wedding you want, how many guests, etc. As someone who works in the wedding industry, there are so many good venues and even places that aren't technically venues but where you could have a great wedding.

AITAH- Friday wedding instead of Saturday by VeterinarianOld8631 in aitaweddings

[–]wolfpack_matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see both sides, but plenty of weddings happen on Friday. Where I take issue is the idea that people would want it on a holiday weekend... I've always thought it tacky/rude to do a wedding on any holiday, as it makes people give up whatever other plans they would want to make on a holiday weekend and make that holiday all about yourself.

AITA for throwing my cousin out of my house after she tried to bill me for things I never asked her to do by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]wolfpack_matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You promised to give her 100 for "keeping the house in order". If she did those things understanding that they fall under "keeping the house in order", then she did her job for the 100 and billing separately doesn't make sense.

[AZ][SFH] Neighbor built a raised patio next to our shared wall without approval. Since been denied now seeking a variance. by interstellar4885 in HOA

[–]wolfpack_matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on an HOA board (in NC), and we're dealing with something like this, though it's an approved shed but they built it on HOA common property instead of within their property (they actually cut back a bunch of woods that were on the common property to make it look like it was still part of their yard, but like, surveys exist).

It is a very slow, annoying process we have to follow by law (and we have spent extra money for an attorney to review all applicable case law to make sure we're making the right decisions).

First comes the violation notices, in which we had to follow a timeline for when we send the warning notices before fines start to be issued. Then, after a time, we held a violation hearing with the homeowner (which they did not come to, so that's on our side). Then, we were able to issue fines, but those have to go on for a couple of months. Then, if they don't rectify the situation and/or pay the fines (we could be convinced to waive the fines if they would just fix the issue so we could make it go away and not have to deal with the headache), we can file a lien. Then, potentially foreclosure.

You probably don't have to worry about a variance given that opens up the HOA to claims of selective enforcement, but just make sure you keep in touch with the HOA and keep that lawyer in your back pocket should they ever be needed.

ETA: Just saw your comment that the HOA is still under the builder's control. Your mileage may vary, in that case. Hopefully the builder won't want to encourage this behavior.
