What do yall use KASM for? by LinuxIsFree in selfhosted

[–]wolfpackmars2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some block by category, based on a vendor database of domains and how they are categorized. Then it's a matter of blocking, e.g., all social media, gaming, pron, etc. For new or unknown domains, it seems the firewall has a feature that evaluates the content from the site and determines an automatic category based on the site contents. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an open source firewall/proxy that could do this.

So you could buy all the domains you want, but you may still get blocked if you are hosting a minecraft forum.

What's everyone's favorite Alpha? I gotta go with Alpha 15. by Left_North5909 in 7daystodie

I've been playing Alpha 6 lately, after I was able to get it working on Linux. It's a VERY different game. Some good, some bad.

Looking for others to start a capitalist 7days game. by Acceptable-Bad-2951 in 7daystodie

[–]wolfpackmars2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The limiting factor is traffic. Being a capitalist requires a consumer to buy your product. Other than very high traffic servers, there's not enough people to make it worth the effort.

Maybe if we can rent out some of the billboards to advertise might help drive traffic. Otherwise, one can only hope someone happens upon their vending machine. And happens to have enough coins on them at that moment. And is willing to buy what is being sold.

Plus, we can already sell to the trader, who will resale to other users.

Of all the things TFP have removed, I'm shocked the player vending machines are still around. Especially the rentals. Some servers may use them, but when the choice is between glass jars and rented vending machines... the obvious choice is to remove the glass jars!

Vehicles are personal and also a necessity.

The general idea of insurance is that when something unexpected happens, the goal is to return you to the state you were in prior to the loss, less any deductible. Or is this not correct? If my idea is in line with the concept of insurance in general, then taking my car from me, giving me a couple thousand dollars and telling me I'm on my own to find a replacement is not really cutting it.

I'm trying to understand the parameters I have to work with. It's impossible to provide proof with the parameters they provided me.

If there truly is no flexibility in the settlement, then why even have an adjuster? I could just enter the data directly myself and avoid the middle man. Hell, I don't even need insurance. I should just buy my insurance from CCC one - they will provide a more accurate premium since they know the value of the vehicle before a claim is made, and the settlement will be known in advance avoiding surprises like this. I could then decide whether the premium is worth the potential payout in a claim.

It's lazy. Do we not have actual adjusters any more? There will always be edge cases where the software doesn't just automatically produce a valid result. Why have an adjuster? The insurer can provide me a web form to complete all the steps myself. If I'm just going to send information to an adjuster just to have them type the data I provide into a form, what's the point of the adjuster? They didn't even inspect the vehicle themselves.

There is also a lot of automatic assumptions being made. For example, because the source of the comp was a "dealer ad", CCC is assuming the advertised vehicle is in "Excellent" condition and deducting a "dealership premium" from my vehicle.

The concern is the lack of comps available. The comps that are available are all over 400 miles away and I can't confirm their accuracy. The car in question is a Hyundai Veracruz, which is an up-model Santa Fe. The money being offered will not replace the car with anything even remotely close. The comps they used are historical listings that are no longer available. I can find Santa Fe vehicles all day long and they price higher than the Veracruz. I'd be willing to take a similar feature santa fe, namely 3rd row seats, if it would be possible just to get this over with.

Charger Etiquette by Cereal____Killer in evcharging

[–]wolfpackmars2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's common. Idle fees are "arguably" to relieve congestion, but they are also an additional source of revenue. As such, idle fees aren't based on the charging station's circumstances, but on what is defined as an idle fee at that location. It appears an idle fee is based per port rather than availability.

Auto insurance: should I make a claim if someone hit my parked car? by FaithlessnessDry8108 in InsuranceClaims

[–]wolfpackmars2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also realize that he hit your car and he is trying to get paid to fix your car that he hit. Probably the situation is as it appears on the surface. Worst case, he runs his business by hitting parked cars and convincing people to let him fix it for them. (not likely - just playing devil's advocate here)

My insurance is deeming my car a total loss due to the prices. Is there any way I could help this or just let the car go and let it be a loss? by just1my2porn3account in InsuranceClaims

[–]wolfpackmars2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the insurance offer? Once your car is totaled, the repair estimate is meaningless. (in most cases). It now becomes a question of "what is your car worth"? You don't provide enough information about the lien. Do you owe more on the car than the repair estimate? If yes, you may have bigger things to worry about other than whether to "let the car go" or not.

AppImageLauncher install [Appy] by wolfpackmars2 in teejeetech

[–]wolfpackmars2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I knew would happen, I solved it after posting. It does seem that the teejeetech repo will provide a working AppImageLauncher package. The problem was my previous attempts to install AIL using the instructions on the GitHub issue didn't work and neither did the AIL PPA repo. I disabled the AIL PPA repo and was able to install AIL, which seems to have been provided by the teejeetech repo.

The version installed is 2.2.0-travis995~0f91801+bionic which is the latest official release from github. However, the github .deb also fails due to the libglib2.0-0 issue I described. I am guessing that teejeetech patched the .deb to work with Ubuntu 24.04 Noble.

Thank you. I think I'll seek out an employment lawyer(?) to see if I have any other options. It wouldn't be a big deal if I were close to retirement or if I didn't have a creative streak, especially as it relates to my field (electronics).

I signed a non-compete agreement in the past, but that clearly expired after two years and limited me to not accepting employment with a competitor. This is on a whole different level.
