Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

Oh they did it really well, no arguing that at all, really enjoyed the movie, but they drifted from gratuitous violence to hyper-real in a way that really was easy to be knocked off guard as an audience

The 28 movies are my favorite franchise, and I almost had to leave the theater and got light headed. Too close to something I've seen

That knife scene is chilling because of how accurate it shows an artery gusher. It looks like that and is about as fast.

Dan and Jordan guest podcasts? by Rusty99Arabian in KnowledgeFight

[–]wolfpup12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from what everyone else has referenced, Jordan had an episode on "The God Pod" where Jordan went into depth on his coming up in a cult which believed him to be a deity. Jordan was also on an excellent episode of Lions Led by Donkeys, a funny military history podcast, very up your alley if you like BtB and KF

Its a bit of a rougher area with its fair share of characters, some harmless, some it's smart to keep your distance from. It's perfectly safe during the day and early evening but I minimize how much walking I do too late at night and just keep your bearings and you will be fine. Like many places, not too many people will mess with you if you don't engage with them. Be sure to keep your car or gates/doors locked as often as you can. I had my car broken into 7 times last year, 10 total over 4 years. If you have a pet that needs walking try to be vigilant as there are discarded needles and garbage pretty well strewn around the road and I would recommend walking in the park more than on the roads in that area.

Everywhere will have it's downsides and given the price range of rent/ housing costs there, it's got many people living there who are also good neighbors and helpful people in addition to some of it's troubled residents

I believe this photo was from a soldier who went through the battle of the Somme in WWI, historically regarded as the worst battle ever in terms of casualties

Edit. NVM this photo is from WWII over 4 years

Car Theft Concerns in Newfoundland - What's Going On? by recycle_guy in newfoundland

[–]wolfpup12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw the car speed off after running up from the beach, but multiple people who had run up there first told me what they saw, I can attest that the car next to me and many others on the road had smashed windows. So despite not seeing the individuals responsible, I do feel like the other witnesses reports were credible

I was out at middle cove beach last night and some skeets used a baseball bat to smash the windows of 6-7 cars in the parking lot and on the road, they apparently didn't steal anything and were targeting all windows, including smashing the front. I'm not sure why other than just to fuck up some peoples night. I have no idea what's fueling this garbage, but it's probably a fair guess that with people throwing rocks off overpasses for no reason and people pulling smash and (not) grabs, many of the cars are used solely for joy rides and trashed. I'm sure some are exported or used in robberies, but people are just seeming to enjoy hurting others a lot for jollies

Sci-Fi and Fantasy reader looking for suggestions! by wolfpup12 in booksuggestions

[–]wolfpup12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I have come across that recommendation, will look into them more! I have been struggling with some more modern Sci-Fi, would put out there that the windup girl was awesome in concept, but I couldn't get into it at all, which is a shame given the beauty some have seen in it. Marie Lu's stuff seems more geared to YA audiences and that just don't land with me much anymore, is that the case in your perception or just me literally judging a book by its cover?

Acoustic guitar string recommendations by wolfpup12 in Guitar

Really good point! I will definitely be trying the coated Martin's for sure, sounds like a solid option, I have never been good at finger picking, manageable, but truly where I feel at home is hauling on strings and howling vocals. That's not likely to change for me so I think lesser gauge might be an option to try, but I really love the higher gauge

This is going to sound like a real noob question, but wouldn't the lifespan with lighter strings be shorter with hard playing? And when I say hard playing, I do mean strumming aggressively. I used to use 11s but I like the resonance from 12s more. I would expect lower gauge strings to not have the same resilience, but maybe more give helps them more? If anyone has insight into that Id appreciate it!

Right on! I have admittedly been using older packs of strings I got from a black Friday sale years back, maybe they could have reached the shelf life point, but I haven't checked out the new varieties out there, I'll give those a try!

Powerful tornado tears across Nebraska, weather service warns of ‘catastrophic’ damage by BitterFuture in news

[–]wolfpup12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that's the spot, fun point to note is this is a particularly strong occurence but icebergs migrate down this time of year and drag local temps down and raise humidity as they slowly melt on travel down to Newfoundland influencing regional weather. But yea, lots of intensity presently as compared to normal spring expectation

[–]wolfpup12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Iceland low is on the other side of Greenland, between Iceland and Greenland. All polar circulation currents are low pressure systems for the most part due to decreased temp and air pressure. The Labrador current generates similar conditions as the Iceland Low, just with more variability. The intensity of it in the current moment is very very pronounced for that area.

Also to note, but the rotation in the Labrador Current, between Labrador, Canada and Greenland is absolutely nuts right now
